  • Spacious, friendly site on the Cumbrian coast
  • Fell walks, Lakes Coniston and Windermere within 45 minutes' drive
  • A few minutes from pubs, chip shop, dog-friendly beach and watersports
How’s this for having your cake and eating it? Harbour Lights Campsite is a couple of minutes’ walk from Haverigg beach on the Cumbrian coast – and behind it, with trails beginning 15 minutes' drive away, the famed hills and fells of the Lake District (not to mention those lakes themselves). No more tough choices, have the lot here. If you have any problems on this Cumbrian cracker of a site, it’ll be deciding what to do first. You could start by taking in the view: sunsets over the beach and sea with the hills looming in the background; on this friendly, well-kept but unfussy site there’s little to get in between you and the grand surroundings. Don’t fancy missing a minute in the open air? No problem, barbecues and firepits are all to hand. Dogs are welcome on site, on the beach next door and in many of the nearby pubs. On that note, there are places to sip and sup in Haverigg, and more of the same plus supermarkets in Millom, both about five minutes' drive away.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: A big, well kept, friendly site. Welcomed by polite, friendly & knowledgeable staff who directed us to all of the camp facilities & local amenities & attractions. The pitches were generous & the showers & toilets were new & spotlessly clean. If you're into walking & have dogs, there's a nearby dog-friendly beach with dunes & creeks to explore plus the harbour wall which surrounds a lagoon with water sports & a nature reserve which is home to ground nesting sea birds & water fowl. The nearby Ski Bar at the water sports complex is great for food & karaoke & is dog friendly. You have to try the ice cream parlour. Extremely generous portions of some of the most delicious ice cream, hot & cold drinks. Very reasonable prices too.

Disliked: Not a dislike, but beware of leaving bags of rubbish outside of your motorhome, tourer or tent, unless you want to wake up to a job, litter picking. Put them in the bins provided as we noticed that the gulls had opened a few overnight & had strewn rubbish everywhere. No Wi-Fi on the site is the only dislike as the 4G signal seemed intermittent.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely location next to the beach. Ski bar handy for a drink or bite to eat. Pub abou 10 minutes away and fish and chip shop same distance. Can get a coffee, cake or delicious icecream from the hut 🛖 n site. Friendly staff, fire pits allowed and not too many rules. Lovely walk around the lagoon. Plenty of toilets and showers although there needs to be somewhere to put toiletries near the shower itself.

Disliked: Not much else nearby, but great for a few nights or family gathering. No wifi.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We were on a camper van pitch, same spot as last time ! Fairly level and decent size grass for the awning. Only a 2 min walk to a tiny beach but carry on through the village to a lovely walk on beach. It's like a nature reserve. Over the road to walk along the lane for miles around the lake. The Ski bar is great to stop for a pint. Bit expensive if I'm honest but they can ?!Cute little cafe on site, barista made, not machine :-) Showers very nice. Very clean and warm. Friendly people.

Disliked: Nothing really ! It's our 2nd visit and we will definately be back again at some point.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: You can leave the world behind And recharge your batteries Fantastic views brilliant staff shower and toilet all in one separate room no going to toilet then finding a vacant shower

Disliked: Just a bit far for fresh water if you are bad on your legs and to empty your toilet and gray water left awning down so I could drive down to fill up water and empty things but as I say I am a bit bad on my legs

Local attractions

Haverigg’s wide sandy beach is fab for walks, castle building and kite-based antics, from flying them to being hauled along the sands in buggies at high speed. If you’re after activities on the water, Port Haverigg Wakepark five minutes’ drive away has something wet and wild for everyone. Without straying too far, you can also go horse trekking through the countryside and galloping on the beach from Murthwaite Green trekking centre, or get your kicks with wheels and mud included at Haverigg Motocross Track (both 10 minutes). For walks with wildlife, it’s five minutes to RSPB Hodbarrow, where hosts of rare birds and plants thrive in the distinctive wetland environment. If you want to get higher, Black Combe is officially England’s biggest hill, 30 feet short of being a mountain and accessible by trails starting about 15 minutes' drive away in Wicham. Walks up the famed Old Man and surrounding fells start in Coniston, 40 minutes away. For lakes, well, take your pick… Windermere is 45 minutes away, for boat cruises, steamer trips and watersports as well as lakeside walks and cycling. Families make for Muncaster Castle (half an hour), on account of its Harry Potter-like appearance, resident ghost, adventure trails and playground and its Hawk and Owl centre with regular feeding and flying shows. For even wilder wildlife, the South Lakes Safari Zoo is 40 minutes away or you can Go Ape yourselves at Grizedale, zipping through the forest treetops on wires and ropeways (50 minutes).
