  • Small Lake District farm site for families and couples
  • Two miles from Broughton-in-Furness; Coniston Water 20 minutes' drive
  • Family-run farm with sheep and cows; eggs and logs available to buy
Half a mile from the small village of Broughton Mills and two miles from the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, this quiet Lake District farm has a small selection of spacious pitches for families and couples looking to sleep under canvas in the gorgeous Lickle Valley. Set in the south of the Lake District and 20 minutes’ from the coast, Lane End Farm has simple amenities including portable toilets and an honesty shop where you can pick up logs and fresh eggs. Other than that, you'll pretty much be left to your own devices here. This site makes an excellent base for many a day trip in the national park, whether you have your eye on watersports at Coniston Water (20 minutes' drive) or conquering the lofty heights of Scafell Pike (an hour). If you haven't yet decided on your itinerary, perhaps this spot's fantastic far-reaching views will help you with some inspiration: the views over the fells just seem to go on and on, with several footpaths directly accessible from the farm for off-road rambles. This quiet part of the Lake District is also a wildlife haven: sit quietly in the field and you'll likely be treated to the sight of buzzards flying overhead; if they fail to make an appearance, there are always the cows and sheep grazing in the neighbouring fields. After a meal out or drink? This site is within roughly a quarter of an hour's walk of The Blacksmith's Arms, rated by the farm's owners as one of the best in the area.

Liked: Field was nice and spacious and I liked that we each got a Table and a fire pit. Toilets were clean and stocked and there is a shower, not that anyone knew how to use it. Views were lovely.

Disliked: As we camped as a family, and we had a need for WIFI. So I booked this site because I had seen someone post that they had a signal. It wasn’t the case at all. We had no signal at all for a 10 mile radius of the site. The roads to it were so dicey, narrow, single tracks with hedges either side. It wasn’t very well signposted either. I put the Post code into Waze and it took us to the pub. And I know now it’s summer people will be out in force, but we had to camp next to some people who had clearly been there all day drinking as they were so drunk. We didn’t arrive till later as we had been bagging some wainwrights in the morning. Their fire pit blew smoke all over our pitch and they were quite loud. So it wasn’t very family friendly. I

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely stunning views and location. Free to use fire pit and picnic bench for every pitch, 2 Clean portaloo style toilets and a nice hot shower that we wasn’t expecting was great after a long wet walk in the lakes. Had lots of wildlife around us, was visited by a few bats in the evening. Location was good for walks directly from the campsite, or a short drive into Coniston.

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Very simple in the best way, surrounded by rolling green fields with a view down into the valley. Picnic tables set up along one side of the field, very clean portaloos, and a large sink for washing up. There were some beautiful walks to be done from the campsite as well.
