Lane End Farm: view of the surroundings

General

  • Small Lake District farm site for families and couples
  • Two miles from Broughton-in-Furness; Coniston Water 20 minutes' drive
  • Family-run farm with sheep and cows; eggs and logs available to buy

Half a mile from the small village of Broughton Mills and two miles from the market town of Broughton-in-Furness, this quiet Lake District farm has a small selection of spacious pitches for families and couples looking to sleep under canvas in the gorgeous Lickle Valley.

Set in the south of the Lake District and 20 minutes’ from the coast, Lane End Farm has simple amenities including portaloos and an honesty shop where you can pick up logs and fresh eggs. Other than that, you'll pretty much be left to your own devices here.

This site makes an excellent base for many a day trip in the national park, whether you have your eye on watersports at Coniston Water (20 minutes' drive) or conquering the lofty heights of Scafell Pike (an hour). If you haven't yet decided on your itinerary, perhaps this spot's fantastic far-reaching views will help you with some inspiration: the views over the fells just seem to go on and on, with several footpaths directly accessible from the farm for off-road rambles.

This quiet part of the Lake District is also a wildlife haven: sit quietly in the field and you'll likely be treated to the sight of buzzards flying overhead; if they fail to make an appearance, there are always the cows and sheep grazing in the neighbouring fields.

After a meal out or drink? This site is within roughly a quarter of an hour's walk of The Blacksmith's Arms, rated by the farm's owners as one of the best in the area.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

The campground/park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the campground/park are unlit.

This is a quiet campground/park: no music is allowed.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This campground/park has no on-site shower facilities.

There are no garbage cans onsite: all garbage will need to be taken home with you.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Please note that the toilet facilities are unisex.

The campground/park does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dog Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

The setting, the views are wonderful. How tidy it is, the wonderful shower and butler sink, the stunning peacefulness. There are picnic tables to eat at and metal firepits provided. You can buy wood cheaply from the farm for a campfire. It was truly idyllic. The village of Broughton is wonderful, and there are lots of places around for biking and hiking. On this occasion, we were the only visitors, so having this wonderful place to ourselves made it even better.

    Disliked:

We had to make our own shade in the raging heat.

Well spaced out pitches each with fire pit and picnic benches. On site toilets and a shower, all nice and clean. The views were incredible and a local village nearby with a few pubs and shops.

Nothing really apart from the shower was very hot and unable to change. I imagine a child would struggle with the temperature
