  • Pop-up site at a friendly family farm five minutes from Ulverston
  • A five-minute drive to beach or safari zoo; 20 minutes to Windermere
  • Local pub and ice cream parlour within walking distance
If a spot just a few minutes away from both Ulverston and the Cumbria coast sounds like a good place to be (and it surely should…) then you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup at Camping at Hayfield. This pop-up site is part of a family farm, and it’s run by the lovely Beverley and Anthony, a couple who are keen on travelling and exploring and know a thing or two about what makes for a fab place to stay. It’s all about splendid simplicity here: facilities are limited to just portable toilets, showers, a water tap, picnic tables and a cold-water washing-up area, so you can focus on the key elements of a peaceful stay (namely meeting the farm animals, checking out the gorgeous Lake District views and bonding over an evening by the barbecue or campfire…) Look out from the pitches and you’ll see rural views all around, with footpaths easily accessible for when you fancy getting out to see a bit more. Handily it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the local pub, and an even shorter one to an ice cream parlour. For more foodie options (including pubs, takeaways and supermarkets), it’s a five-minute drive up to Ulverston. A countryside site this may be, but as it’s not far from the A590 it’s also one that’s well placed for getting out and about. Some of the biggest sights in the Lake District National Park (including Windermere and Coniston Water) are about 20 minutes away by car, or you can get to Bardsea Beach or South Lakes Safari Zoo in about five minutes.

What customers say

This is a friendly, spacious campsite with beautiful views. Guests consistently praise the welcoming and accommodating owners who go the extra mile. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are described as clean and well-maintained, although some noted they are basic. The site is ideal for families and offers a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of room. Concerns were raised about potential overcrowding and queues for facilities during busy periods, and a lack of hot water for washing up. Recycling facilities are also noted as an area for improvement.

Liked The hosts are lovely and will go out of their way to help you enjoy your stay. Field and facilities are clean and well kept. Beautiful scenery all around. Close to the town plus a village even closer is another option.

Disliked The weather ! It’s the Lakes 😏

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The lady who greeted us upon arrival was lovely and welcoming, introducing us to the camp site and highlighting amenities. The camp site was quiet and clearly well respected by guests. It was clean; and the toilets were emptied first thing in the morning. There is a small trailer for refreshments if necessary.

Disliked The only thing we’d say was frustrating was that there were no fire pits left when we arrived. When we wanted to purchase wood for our own, we were charged the same amount as we would have been for the whole fire pit/ kindling and wood, which was a shame. Other than that, it was fantastic.

Liked Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Had absolutely everything you need and more.

Beverley and her husband were so friendly and accommodating. On our first afternoon they let our little boy drive one of the tractors, and he hasnt stopped talking about it since. Keeps telling everyone it was his favourite part of our holiday!

Can't fault it. Great stay from start to finish. We'll be back.
