General

  • Pop-up site at a friendly family farm five minutes from Ulverston
  • A five-minute drive to beach or safari zoo; 20 minutes to Windermere
  • Local pub and ice cream parlour within walking distance

If a spot just a few minutes away from both Ulverston and the Cumbria coast sounds like a good place to be (and it surely should…) then you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup at Camping at Hayfield.

This pop-up site is part of a family farm, and it’s run by people who are keen on travelling and exploring who know a thing or two about what makes for a fab place to stay. It’s all about splendid simplicity here: facilities are limited to just portaloos, so you can focus on the key elements of a peaceful stay (namely meeting the farm animals, checking out the gorgeous Lake District views and bonding over an evening by the barbecue or campfire…)

Look out from the pitches and you’ll see rural views all around, with footpaths easily accessible for when you fancy getting out to see a bit more. Handily it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the local pub, and an even shorter one to an ice cream parlour. For more foodie options (including pubs, takeaways and supermarkets), it’s a five-minute drive up to Ulverston.

A countryside site this may be, but as it’s not far from the A590 it’s also one that’s well placed for getting out and about. Some of the biggest sights in the Lake District National Park (including Windermere and Coniston Water) are about 20 minutes away by car, or you can get to Bardsea Beach or South Lakes Safari Zoo in about five minutes.

Very clean site, owners really friendly and lots of little touches to make your stay that bit easier. It was our first family camping trip with me, my partner and our 3 children aged 3, 2 and 1. We only stayed for 1 night to see how the kids got on with them being so young but we definitely could of stayed longer! Kids had so much fun running round the field all day and didn't want to leave in the morning. Definitely be booking again in the future!

EVERYTHING. This was mine and my family’s first camping trip and honestly it will be hard to beat we had the best time. We visited the zoo which was 5 minutes away, we visited the local towns and went over to Windermere which took around 20mins. But what made the trip so special were the owners of this site. Nothing was to much trouble. Farmer anth went above and beyond to make sure my 4 year old son had the best time. He took him around in his little tractor, took him to feed the animals, took him on a trip to the farm to see the milking cow and we got given fresh milk which was delicious. We were there for three nights and were supplied with fire pits and wood every night. Beverly popped over to see us and was just so friendly advised us on the best places to visit and generally just wanted to get to know us as a family and was genuinely interested. The facilities were gleaming, soap, dishwashing all provided. My son cried when he left because he wanted to stay there forever. I honestly can’t recommend this place enough from the bottom of our hearts thankyou. We will be returning.

Lovely big pitches, loads of room for kids to play. Clean toilets, lovely owners and they let the children feed the animals which they loved! Good location close to the beach and ice cream farm up the road. Will definitely be back. Great location to get around the Lake District and visit other areas.

A really nice camping field, nice soft flat mown grass. The 2 portaloos and sink area were thoroughly cleaned throughout the day. Lovely picnic area at the top of the field near a little petting zoo for children with some sheep and baby cows.
Fire pits were included with free wood and a light each night, but they are first come first served so there was a bit of competition for them as there’s not one for every pitch.
But the best thing about Hayfields was the farm owners. Very welcoming and happy to chat, they would do anything to help you or make your visit better, lots of advice and directions on places nearby to visit. They took us on a little road trip around the neighbouring sights in their 4x4 which was great and above and beyond what I expected from site owners. Then the next day they took my son to their dairy and gave him a big bottle of fresh milk to take away.
They really made the trip something special and we will definitely be back.
