  • Pop-up site at a friendly family farm five minutes from Ulverston
  • A five-minute drive to beach or safari zoo; 20 minutes to Windermere
  • Local pub and ice cream parlour within walking distance
If a spot just a few minutes away from both Ulverston and the Cumbria coast sounds like a good place to be (and it surely should…) then you’ll likely be most pleased with the setup at Camping at Hayfield. This pop-up site is part of a family farm, and it’s run by the lovely Beverley and Anthony, a couple who are keen on travelling and exploring and know a thing or two about what makes for a fab place to stay. It’s all about splendid simplicity here: facilities are limited to just portable toilets, showers, a water tap, picnic tables and a cold-water washing-up area, so you can focus on the key elements of a peaceful stay (namely meeting the farm animals, checking out the gorgeous Lake District views and bonding over an evening by the barbecue or campfire…) Look out from the pitches and you’ll see rural views all around, with footpaths easily accessible for when you fancy getting out to see a bit more. Handily it’s about a 20-minute stroll to the local pub, and an even shorter one to an ice cream parlour. For more foodie options (including pubs, takeaways and supermarkets), it’s a five-minute drive up to Ulverston. A countryside site this may be, but as it’s not far from the A590 it’s also one that’s well placed for getting out and about. Some of the biggest sights in the Lake District National Park (including Windermere and Coniston Water) are about 20 minutes away by car, or you can get to Bardsea Beach or South Lakes Safari Zoo in about five minutes.

What customers say

This is a highly recommended campsite praised for its welcoming and exceptionally friendly owners. Visitors highlight the spacious, well-maintained, and clean facilities, including toilets and showers. The scenic countryside location, proximity to attractions, and the opportunity for children to interact with farm animals are popular. Many guests express a desire to return. Minor points include occasional queues for facilities when busy and the lack of a quiet policy on one occasion.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked lovely open space, kids got to enjoy some cricket. Bev was absolutely wonderful and no jobs was too big. She was amazing with her trailer of goodies and the fire pits were a delight too.
Facilities were clean and well organised and arranged.

Disliked maybe a few more toilets if the place become super busy or full but for us there absolutely spot on.

From the manager: Thank you so much for your fab review Emma, glad you loved your stay.

We fluctuate our toilet total as to how busy we are to be, sometimes we get it wrong when extras book on but mostly we manage to get it write, apologies.

Sara T. 1 review

Non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked My children and I had an absolutely fantastic time here. The campsite is lovely and Beth was a fantastic host. Made us feel very welcome and was really helpful.
It is a back to basics camp, but the atmosphere, site safety and little touches the owners add make it excellent.
All the kids formed friendships quickly and played for hours, which is perfect for parents wanting to relax a little. It has been a while since we have had such a good all round camping experience so we will definitely be coming back soon.

Disliked I can’t think of anything I didn’t like.

From the manager: Awww Sara, glad you all had the best time and thank you for your super kind review.
