  • Friendly park in south Cumbria's Furness peninsula
  • On the outskirts of Ulverston; 10 minutes' drive to the Lake District
  • Large play area, a pond and a dog exercise area on site
Looking for a trip that combines the coast, country, market towns and small, dainty villages? There's a good chance that you'll consider south Cumbria's Furness Peninsula and the lively market town of Ulverston quite appealing – along with Bardsea Leisure Park, which is handily set on the outskirts of Ulverston and a short drive away from the Lake District National Park and miles of coastline. Suitable for solo travellers, couples and families, the site is sheltered within a former quarry. It has roomy toilet and shower blocks with toasty underfloor heating, along with a launderette and a washing-up area. Those of you who are bringing your dog on holiday can let them patter around the on-site dog exercise area. For kids' play times, head to the large play area and pond instead. A large accessory shop and service centre are also on site for other daily needs. Another handy thing about Bardsea Leisure Park? It's within walking distance of Ulverston's pubs, shops and restaurants and 15 minutes' drive away from the south end of Windermere Lake.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Not for me.

Disliked This wasn't to my tastes. There were no views, just caravans and holiday homes around, so no privacy. There was not running hot water in the showers or washing up areas, just the kind where the taps go off every 30 seconds.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Fantastic site. Had one of the premium Langdale pitches and its the best pitch I've had at any site. Toilet and shower block immaculately kept, always hot water and toasty underfloor heating. Free WiFi. Peaceful site in lovely surroundings. Great on site shop. 25 minute walk gets you to Ulverston town centre. Will return again.

Disliked Nothing.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good distance from main road so no road noise. Good size pitch with water and electricity. Shop and cafe on site. Shower/bathrooms were clean and well maintained, only minor drawback was shower water was never very hot. You have to get a tv and internet box if you want tv/internet on your pitch which requires a £100 deposit but good reception with the box.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Nice clean site. Staff very friendly and sorted our electric problems promptly. Individual shower rooms that were lovely and warm. Having a cafe onsite was brilliant .

Disliked The floor in the shower number 1 was way too hot to walk on bare footed and the shower was scalding.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely location with great facilities. Very friendly staff. Pitches were perfect and being in a quarry surrounded by trees and tweeting birds was lovely. It is only a short walk into town.

There was an extensive mexican menu for the evenings and lots of breakfast options although I didn't order from them while I was there

Disliked My only criticism is there was no pot wash area that i could find.

Local attractions

A cosy dip first: a swimming pool and an indoor/outdoor sports complex are 10 minutes' walk away from Bardsea Leisure Park. Once refreshed, wander into the handsome market town of Ulverston (25 minutes' walk) for old buildings, cobbled streets and the Thursday and Saturday street markets selling fresh local produce. (An indoor market is open weekly too.) A prettily landscaped 18-hole golf course is also in the area, but if you're feeling particularly energetic you might be up for a climb up Hoad Hill and the Sir John Barrow Monument (five minutes' drive) from Ulverston's northeast. Towards Barrow-in-Furness is The Dock Museum (20 minutes), a free attraction (often with special exhibitions) telling the story of Barrow as a shipbuilding town. Off the peninsula, visit Walney Island (25 minutes) and its nature reserve, or Roa Island (15 minutes) to get the ferry over to the island of Piel. And if you're off to Windermere, go via the restored steam trains of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (15 minutes) to travel through the Lake District's sterling scenery and board a lake cruise at the end of your journey.
