  • Friendly park in south Cumbria's Furness peninsula
  • On the outskirts of Ulverston; 10 minutes' drive to the Lake District
  • Large play area, a pond and a dog exercise area on site
Looking for a trip that combines the coast, country, market towns and small, dainty villages? There's a good chance that you'll consider south Cumbria's Furness Peninsula and the lively market town of Ulverston quite appealing – along with Bardsea Leisure Park, which is handily set on the outskirts of Ulverston and a short drive away from the Lake District National Park and miles of coastline. Suitable for solo travellers, couples and families, the site is sheltered within a former quarry. It has roomy toilet and shower blocks with toasty underfloor heating, along with a launderette and a washing-up area. Those of you who are bringing your dog on holiday can let them patter around the on-site dog exercise area. For kids' play times, head to the large play area and pond instead. A large accessory shop and service centre are also on site for other daily needs. Another handy thing about Bardsea Leisure Park? It's within walking distance of Ulverston's pubs, shops and restaurants and 15 minutes' drive away from the south end of Windermere Lake. The South Lakes Safari Zoo is only 10 minutes' drive away for a quick afternoon trip to see some animals too.

Liked The site was immaculate. The green areas and pitches were very well tended. The reception on arrival felt welcoming. The shower rooms were amazing and absolutely spotless. It was an easy walk along into Ulverston.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The surrounding area, the bathroom facilities, the shop for accessories etc. The site was really pretty with all the flowers and planting. Also, it was divided up well into different sections that were easy to identify.

Disliked The road through the site was in poor condition

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great location, beautiful setting in a disused (many years ago) Quarry. Nature has livingly taken over and the owners have sympatheticly created a lovely site. Each pitch is level with EHU, and water. It has lovely shower rooms with heated floors. They were always clean, and never closed.
It is a 1 mile walk into Ulverston which has lots of bars and restaurants.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Close to town. NOT a 5 star site.

Disliked The touring site is continuosly 7 days a week used for sales handovers and all day. Continous noise with noisy vehicles and people. Poor electric boxes cables hanging. No TV, Wifi, mobile signal. Offered booster boxes for £100 deposit??? A 5 star site? Showers ok but under floor heating on continuously so when you finish showering and dry off you sweat and need another. Waste water disposal for vans just a gravel patch. Cafes advertised as opening to 8pm. Twice tried and both times closed indoors. Offered outide in the wind and rain.

Local attractions

A cosy dip first: a swimming pool and an indoor/outdoor sports complex are 10 minutes' walk away from Bardsea Leisure Park. Once refreshed, wander into the handsome market town of Ulverston (25 minutes' walk) for old buildings, cobbled streets and the Thursday and Saturday street markets selling fresh local produce. (An indoor market is open weekly too.) A prettily landscaped 18-hole golf course is also in the area, but if you're feeling particularly energetic you might be up for a climb up Hoad Hill and the Sir John Barrow Monument (five minutes' drive) from Ulverston's northeast. The tigers, giraffes, kangaroos, lemurs, monkeys and more of the South Lakes Safari Zoo (10 minutes) are towards Barrow-in-Furness (20 minutes), as is The Dock Museum (20 minutes), a free attraction (often with special exhibitions) telling the story of Barrow as a shipbuilding town. Off the peninsula, visit Walney Island (25 minutes) and its nature reserve, or Roa Island (15 minutes) to get the ferry over to the island of Piel. And if you're off to Windermere, go via the restored steam trains of the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway (15 minutes) to travel through the Lake District's sterling scenery and board a lake cruise at the end of your journey.
