  • Scenic working dairy farm 10 miles from Scafell Pike
  • On the outskirts of Gosforth on the edge of the Lake District
  • Farm tours, drying room and lock-up bicycle storage on request
Leap and lollop your way to Harebeck Holidays for peaceful rural breaks with mountain views near the Cumbrian coast. Set a mile outside the pretty village of Gosforth and 10 minutes' drive from Seascale beach, this site is perched on the western edge of the Lake District, making a great base for days out around the river Esk and Ravenglass. The Wasdale Valley, where Harebeck Holidays is located, has lots of mountain views to liven up the scenery, including vistas over Scafell Pike, England's tallest peak. Let yourself get fully immersed in the countryside or try paddleboarding on Wast Water – and don't worry if your clothes come back a little on the damp side, as the site has a handy drying room where you can leave your boots and outdoor gear to air out. Other on-site facilities include a bathroom block with two separate showers and three toilets, as well as extras like a changing mat, step, toddler seat and hair dryer if you need them; bath towels are provided. Outside, there's secure lock-up bike storage available on request, as well as a washing-up unit with hand towels provided. When it comes to sourcing provisions, you can order eggs or a meat or veg pack from reception (at least 48 hours prior to arrival) or buy a disposable barbecue pack from site staff. Stocking up for the long haul? Harebeck Holidays is happy to take supermarket deliveries too. There's also a lovely coffee shop in Gosforth, just 15 minutes' walk away. You may also get the chance to go on a farm tour where the owners explain their agricultural methods and show off some of their prize animals.

Harter electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked: Peaceful and quiet, unspoilt and friendly welcome from the owner.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our Shower block has towels to use if yours are wet and a shower mat to use. Hair dryers provided, so a little above basic. It is very peaceful and scenic here with views of Scafell. Even though you are on a farm there should be no tractors around near the site which is positioned away from our livestock buildings.

Peaceful, family friendly site in a beautiful location.

Lingmell electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked: Great nature around, beautiful property, very quiet. Great facilities, gentle host.

Disliked: Being an eco-friendly site, there was no provisions for the chemical toilet cassete cleaning. We could live without it, but it’d be better if we could.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: If the chemical toilet needed to be emptied then we could empty it for you in the slurry store. Any one else needing this facility please ask. We don't allow emptying on site as there may be chemicals which stop our Disposal system from working. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Site well located for cost and mountain.

Sheep Fold shepherd's hut

Liked: Lovely peaceful site with friendly and attentive host. Shepherd Hut was well equipped, warm and most amazing views. Showers lovely and warm with towels provided. Luckily to have warm sunny days so able to walk from site to both Seascale along the Viking Way and to Gosforth. Definitely will return.

Disliked: Maybe additional washing up area under cover.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Glad you enjoyed your time with us look forward to your return. We have considered making awash up area undercover but this would take up too much of the road acess. Thus we have placed a wash up bowl in the shower block. This can be filled from the shower and placed on the disabled seating to wash up with the dirty water tipped down the sink. The wash up bowl is under the disabled seat.

Gypsy caravan

Liked: Lovely, friendly welcome, nothing too much trouble. Easy enough to find. Great range of accommodation, we stayed in one of the gypsy caravans and we were lovely and toasty. Can't wait to go back in warmer weather when we can have the doors open and enjoy the beautiful view.

Disliked: No WiFi. It says there is WiFi on the advert, its probably my fault for not asking.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Our Internet connection is intermittent and does not reach to the far side of the site. Vodafone 4G will connect on our site. We are looking at cost effective ways to boost signal on site.

Harter electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked: Lovely setting on a working farm with helpful owners (and some very cute kittens too!)

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are a working farm with the glamping site and holiday cottage our diversification to supplement our agricultural income. We are happy to allow visitors to have a farmyard tour whilst staying here. Just ask when you arrive and Cathryn will explain how we farm in a sustainable and environmentally friendly way and show you around.

Lingmell electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked: The site was lovely. The host was attentive and friendly. The views were beautiful. Facilities good

Disliked: The pitch I chose said it was 7 x 4 metres which should have been big enough for our 6 metre van. However, the approach to it was difficult without driving over the grass. Had to go back and forth in order to get round the corner and could not do this without churning up the wet and muddy grass

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We are pleased you liked our site. We had noticed that with the wet times we have had that people were running on the grass to square themselves up on two of our pitches. We will try to address this as soon as our landscaper is free to do this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
