  • Working farm site in the Lake District with stunning fell views
  • Just off the A66 road in Threlkeld, a 10-minute drive from Keswick
  • Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges within 20-minute drive
Looking for a lush location to settle down in while exploring Lakeland? Step foot in the family-run Setmabanning Caravan Park, then step off site towards top spots like Keswick and the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes’ drive). This site really is very easy on the eye: it’s got spectacular views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells, making it fab for frolicking about the Lake District (or just having a bit of R&R in a rural bolthole). During a break here, the more energetic among your travel crew could tackle the Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges, all within about a 20-minute drive, while strollers seeking easier trails might prefer the pretty footpaths and cycle tracks around the local valley and towards Keswick. Sticking to the site is always an option too – being a working farm, there’s lots to see and do, whether it’s watching the sheep being sheared and the cows going out into the fields with their calves or feeding the chickens and ducks as they wander by. When it comes to filling your own stomach, it’s a 25-minute walk to the centre of the nearest village, Threlkeld, which has two country pubs serving Cumbrian food and ales. Meals are also to be had at the golf club, and the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum (10 minutes) is worth a quick nosey around as well.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: We are touring around the whole of the UK and staying in different places every couple of nights. We LOVED Setbanning! So far, our favourite. Fab pitches, super scenic property just a short drive to the beautiful Keswick. Heaps of animals around and the most pretty cows I’ve ever seen. The farm shop was the icing on the cake… speaking of cake ‘Ems Rockyroad’ was divine.. had to get extra for the road and we also had some delish lamb koftas and fresh milk. Would recommend for sure. There are toilets and showers, however they don’t advertise them due to people complaining about them … but people .. its an old farm property, the toilets will be a bit old, but they were clean and functional and an added bonus. Everyone on the farm was very friendly and informative.

Disliked: We didn’t dislike a thing.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Well I hate to tell everyone how good this site is as I may not be able to book on it again. As it will come so popular. The site is easily accessible from the A 66 and 10 minutes driving to Keswick air walk 4 miles from the campsite on the old railway line to the centre of Keswick. The pitches are fully serviced no more running out of water when the shower is on. No more going to the waste disposal so more time to relax. The farm shop is an added bonus and sells most of your daily needs as well as local lamb. Our new go to place Phone signal great too

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: The site is a 10 minute drive from Keswick and there are good walks on the doorstep. The touring pitch was quite spacious so we didn't feel cramped as some sites do. It was nice to be on a working farm and see all the animals even the goose who didn't seem to like us haha. The shower block and toilet facilities are a little dated but fully functional and suited us fine. There is a lovely honesty farm shop on site which was an added bonus. We will definitely stay again.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked: Well laid out, spacious, pitches. It seemed, if booking through Pitchup, you are allocated these. Other pitches are ok, but a bit tired, in need of weeding etc. Daughter of the farmer has a little farm shop on site (see pic) on a self-serve basis, used it a few times during our stay. As it’s a working farm, sheep wander up and down, quite entertaining for our dog. Didn’t use the shower/toilet facilities so can’t comment. The Horse & Farrier pub, 15min walk, which we visited on a few evenings to eat, can highly recommend. The walk along the old railway line into Keswick was lovely, all flat, took just over an hour. Would definitely stay again.

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
