  • Working farm site in the Lake District with stunning fell views
  • Just off the A66 road in Threlkeld, a 10-minute drive from Keswick
  • Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges within 20-minute drive
Looking for a lush location to settle down in while exploring Lakeland? Step foot in the family-run Setmabanning Caravan Park, then step off site towards top spots like Keswick and the Castlerigg Stone Circle (10 minutes’ drive). This site really is very easy on the eye: it’s got spectacular views of Blencathra and the surrounding fells, making it fab for frolicking about the Lake District (or just having a bit of R&R in a rural bolthole). During a break here, the more energetic among your travel crew could tackle the Blencathra, Skiddaw and Helvellyn ranges, all within about a 20-minute drive, while strollers seeking easier trails might prefer the pretty footpaths and cycle tracks around the local valley and towards Keswick. Sticking to the site is always an option too – being a working farm, there’s lots to see and do, whether it’s watching the sheep being sheared and the cows going out into the fields with their calves or feeding the chickens and ducks as they wander by. When it comes to filling your own stomach, it’s a 25-minute walk to the centre of the nearest village, Threlkeld, which has two country pubs serving Cumbrian food and ales. Meals are also to be had at the golf club, and the Threlkeld Quarry & Mining Museum (10 minutes) is worth a quick nosey around as well.

What customers say

Set amidst stunning scenery on a working farm, this site offers spacious, level pitches with excellent water and electric hook-ups. Its prime location is ideal for walking and cycling, with easy access to Keswick and local pubs. The well-stocked honesty farm shop is a popular amenity. While shower and toilet facilities are described as basic and in need of updating by some, they are generally clean and functional with good hot water pressure.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Lovely large pitches, ours was fully serviced, with great views of the mountains.
We enjoyed seeing the sheep wandering round the site. A great little shop selling the essentials as well as delicious home made cakes.

Disliked Although it says that there are pubs nearby in walking distance, it would have been helpful to know directions to get there.

Liked Great site hard standing pitches with water a electric hookup

Disliked Every thing on-site was good, only the toilet and shower block could be modernised, the one other I would like to mention during our stay was a constant barking dog😡.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked This was a super little site with spectacular views, it is a working farm so you will hear the cows and the sheep sometimes roam around the site but the are friendly and do not bother you, there are onsite toilets and showers, although they are cold (you are in the Lake District) they are very clean. There is a little farm shop on site which sells the bare essentials plus cakes etc all homemade. This is a nice central location with Keswick and Threlkeld both in walking distance (Keswick if you like a good stroll), alternatively the buses run often.

Fully-serviced gravel touring pitch

Liked Great sized pitch and the onsite 'shop' is brilliant. Family owned and they were friendly and helpful. There's books and games as well. Lovely views and nice to see the animals too.

Disliked While we didn't have an issue with the toilets/showers being basic, they weren't very clean so having a shower there wasn't very appealing.

Local attractions

The site is on a cycle path leading to Keswick, so you could either drive to town (10 minutes) or ride there by bike. Once you’ve arrived, have a left-of-field hour or so learning about the history of pencils at the Derwent Pencil Museum before gazing at artefacts dug up from around Lakeland in the Keswick Museum & Art Gallery. Just on the outskirts of town is the Castlerigg Stone Circle, dating back as far as the Neolithic area; check this historic spot out, then trudge up to the 2,848-foot Halls Fell Top at the peak of Blencathra. The mighty mountain ranges of Skiddaw (20 minutes’ drive) and Helvellyn (10 minutes) are also local to the site if you’re up for another hiking challenge. As you’re in the Lake District, you’ll surely want to be inspecting some of the area’s bodies of water too. The closest to Keswick is Derwent Water (15 minutes) – ace for boat trips around the Theatre by the Lake – but Thirlmere (10 minutes) and Ullswater (20 minutes) are within easy reach as well.
