How might you fancy a peaceful and well-equipped Lake District place to stay, among the peaceful hills of Cumbria, and with easy access to famed Lake District destinations including Lake Windermere, Ambleside, Cartmel and Kendal? Bed down at quiet and secluded Moss Howe Farm for all the above, a couple of miles from local village Witherslack and 15 minutes' drive from Grange-over-Sands. This is an excellent setting for campfire evenings: guests can arrange firepit hire by adding a request to the Moss Howe team when booking, or use their own barbecues as long as they're raised off the ground and placed on top of the firepit using the supplied grill. A shop and pub are nearby in Witherslack for supplies and other eats. Moss Howe is well equipped, with modern shower, washroom and toilet facilities, plus a tumble dryer in the ladies' shower block, and dishwashing basins just outside. Charging facilities are available for an extra fee; freshwater taps are around the accommodation areas, and wifi is at reception.

Electric gravel campervan pitch

Liked Lovely location. Friendly welcome. Pretty well stocked shop. Also pizza, breakfast rolls and other food on some nights. A bar on site too. Toilets and showers.clean and tidy, even though it was wet and muddy when I was there.
Have been before and would go again.

Liked Nice little site, good facilities. Great location - a bit off the beaten track. Clean and tidy

Disliked The terrace is a bit tight for vehicles. Felt very close to my neighbours. The ground was very rocky, hard to get pegs and windbreak into the ground.

Liked Beautiful quiet farm location far away from noisy roads. The washing facilities and showers were very good. Fire pits were available for hire and there is a small shop selling essential items. Wi fi was available free of charge

Liked If you want a campsite out in the middle of nowhere this is for you,I believe i stayed here before but cannot remember, this time I met great people had some great chats sitting in the pub tent on site with some proper cider not supermarket common stuff,out of the back roads quieter and peaceful, bit off road coming in but better than a muddy track ,pitch was fine perfectly adequate for my tent and motorcycle..two staff,friendly and welcoming I had no complaints friends as you would expect showers and toilets were clean considering they were used every day,met next door who needed a hand putting their tent up in the rain,no problems with any campers,..pizza will definitely be my next option....great selection of drink,,only had the one cider will definitely get more in next time lovely to be around wildlife and farm animals be careful though two roads to come into the campsite one of which is a downhill bit which is not good for bikers..

As for things to do the motor museum was excellent and the views of windermere lake 😎 plenty of walks around the land,,need to spend 7 days here next time not 3,self check in was fine just find ya name on the board and go to pitch

Liked Fantastic site, so peaceful and relaxing. The welcome we had was wonderful, and we were so pleased with our pitch. Because there is no lighting across the site, the starry skies were stunning, just remember to bring a torch!

Disliked There are only 3 ladies showers and 3 sinks, which did become quite busy so you may have to queue in the evening/morning.
I’d also say that the road down to the site is via a narrow track and a little tricky, but so worth it!

Local attractions

A particularly scenic way to explore these surroundings is atop a horse, so make your way first to the Witherslack Hall Equestrian Centre, 10 minutes' drive away, for rides through the woods or on the local fell. A big sheltered arena is also at the centre if you'd like to practise your cantering first. If horses aren't for you, take to the car instead for the spectacularly scenic 25-minute drive to Windermere and Consiton Water via the A590, among the views of the east side of the lake to Bowness, Troutbeck and Ambleside. You'll need at least a day at Britain's biggest natural water lake, for steam ferry rides from Bowness Bay to Waterhead at Ambleside, or boating trips around the water and Windermere's 18 islands. Also have a potter around Lakeside Pier at the southern end of the lake (the ferry from Bowness finishes here), for the Aquarium of the Lakes showcasing Windermere's wildlife. Hikes, mountain biking and lake and mountain views are at Grizedale Forest, 35 minutes away.
