What customers say

This is a highly recommended, peaceful campsite with stunning views and beautifully maintained facilities, including spotless private shower rooms. Visitors consistently praise the exceptionally friendly and helpful wardens, Sandy and Bruce, who go above and beyond. Pitches are well-spaced and clean. While some mention the access road can be steep and rough, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (medium)

Liked This campsite is in one of the most picturesque areas of the Lake District. The views from our plot were breathtaking. We would have been content just looking at those views for the whole of our stay!

The facilities were really nice and clean. They were managed in a way that meant they were fresh for every user., providing the rules were respected, which they were.

There were some great little touches, such as complimentary blankets, a good selection of adult and children’s games for use for free and small items on sale to make your stay more enjoyable.

The campsite wardens were really welcoming, friendly and helpful.

The campsite offer BBQs and log burners for a small fee. We loved the log burner! As well as keeping us warm, it kept the midges away so it was a win win!

The camp site is small and it gave a sense of a feeling of community. Other campers were friendly and clearly also enjoying the space and the views!

We loved it so much, we can’t wait to return!

Disliked I hate to pick a fault with this site, given the amazing set up, care and attention to detail. There was just one thing, that is likely beyond the owners control and that was a few dogs barking through the night on a local field. The first night must have been from about midnight to 4am- ish. It was most disappointing and needless to say we did not get much sleep that night.

The campers next door to us said it was a problem last year too but not as bad as that night. This is really a massive shame for this site which in every other possible way is perfect. If you’re a light sleeper, ear plugs are a must! I do hope the owner can have some influence to prevent this causing problems for future users.

Camping pod

Liked The facilities are very clean and modern.
We received a nice welcome from Sandy.
Easy check in/out just arriving at the pod.
The site is well maintained and there are things for the kids to do, a football pitch, games on the field, and visiting the donkeys.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The views from this site are wonderful and there is plenty of walking straight from the site.
We liked the cleanliness of the facilities and the fact that every eventuality had been thought of...the availability of everything you might have forgotten or need; pegs (clothes and tent), blankets, S'mores kits, BBQ fuel, buckets and spades, playing cards, board games and more. There was even a well stocked mini library, a freezer, washing machine and dryer. The shower and toilets were amazing and so clean at all times.

Electric hardstanding and grass pitch (medium)

Liked Absolutely loved this place, I would 100% recommend.
The scenery was beautiful, the views from the campsite were amazing, and you are surrounded by countryside and wooded area, perfect for local long walks!
I stayed on the tent pitches, and I thought they were perfect for campers! The land isn’t too bunched together so it doesn’t feel like you’re on top of your fellow tent neighbours, everyone is spread out, which made it quieter and more peaceful day to day.
The facilities were great, toilets & showers were provided and they were very nice and clean. There was a utility area, which provided washing machines, leaflets, information and things to buy (such as insect repelling candles, s’mores packs, coal, firewood, walking poles etc). You can pay to hire BBQs and firepits which really made our experience better!
The owners of the farm/campsite were so helpful and so lovely, Sandy came to check on us every day, giving us great recommendations of what to do and provided us with firewood daily! Bruce, her husband, gave us lots of great advice for our first hike up Scafell! Their service was excellent, I couldn’t have asked for better.
As somebody who’s from the city, this was the exact getaway I needed!

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked The views here are absolutely stunning. The campsite is small and intimate, less than 10 pitches. The site was incredibly peaceful, with plenty of space for the kids to play. The firewood supplied was good quality, and a decent volume.

Bruce the site manager was very friendly and helpful, and kept the facilities spotlessly clean.

The washing up area has a few useful bits in it for sale. Tent pegs, marshmallows, a few gas canisters. Useful odds and ends, but you'll need to go out if you want food.

I'd definitely come back here, it was lovely.

Local attractions

Legs a little worn out from walking/biking/riding? Take a scenic trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale steam railway – there’s a station half a mile from Parkgate Farm, or you can board at Ravenglass, 10 minutes' drive away to ride the whole route. While you’re in Ravenglass, take a mooch round Muncaster Castle, a privately owned fort overlooking the River Esk. As well as tours round the castle there are also heaps of things for kids here, including an enchanted fairy trail, a maze and hawk displays. Golfing types can swing their clubs on the courses in Eskdale or Seascale (be prepared for potentially distracting sea views at the latter). There’s a sandy beach in Seascale too; if the water’s too chilly for swims, head north to Whitehaven (half an hour away) to the public swimming pool. The Rum Story, an exhibition in an original 1785 shop, is worth a visit up here too (and yes, you can buy bottles of the good stuff).
