Escape to Eskdale… or Wasdale… or Ravenglass – Parkgate Farm Holidays is within easy reach of lots of pretty places in Cumbria's Western Lakeland. You don’t even have to exit the site to start taking in those views, for there’s a rather fine outlook from this peaceful farm over the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys, with fields and forests thrown in to the frame too. Tempted to take a closer look? Fell walkers can stride forth directly from the farm, while more intrepid types scramble up Scafell Pike, half an hour away. Should you tire of the endlessly gorgeous lakeland views, a 10-minute drive will take you to the beaches of the northwest coast for a bit of seaside scenery. Ravenglass and Muncaster are both within a 10-minute drive of the site too, and between them, have Muncaster Fell and castle, a steam railway and the ruins of a Roman bathhouse. If you don’t fancy cooking, there are a couple of country pubs within 10 minutes’ drive of the site.

Em va agradar Very good campsite, clean facilities.
A lot of goods available for purchase (camping gas and even hiking poles).
Not overcrowded.

I have got injury of my foot while setting up the tent, Bruce helped me with the first aid and after that i went to the hosiptal, great thanks for the staff, they had first aid kit and was educated how to make the first aid. So if you are in this camp your are safe.

Em va agradar Absolutely loved this campsite, the lady was so lovely and replied to texts instantly.
The shower was like home from home and the toilets were fresh and clean. I loved the little room with books and board games, there’s extra blankets for when you want to cosy in front of the fire, will definitely be back on my travels

Em va agradar Good facilities, included 2 toilets, and then two further toilets with showers in them, all of which were very clean and well stocked at all times with toilet paper and hand towels. We loved that the pitch is not overly lit at night, we like the more at nature feel and big spotlights was a negative at our last campsite so we were pleased the lights were minimal. We loved that the facilities were charged as you needed them rather than the pitch being more expensive for things you might not use, keeping costs down for us. And we really appriciate some of the free to use board games, came in for a good laugh late at night. Also Sandy and Bruce were both super welcoming and accommodating we would love to return on the future

Em va agradar Really enjoyed our stay at Parkgate Farm. Bruce and Sandy were brilliant at answering any questions, and even stepping in to fix a camping table for us. They keep the site beautifully maintained, and tucked in the heart of the Cumbrian lowlands, local to both mountains and coast it was a great location! The facilities were clean, and there was a small room with laundry and freezer to use with small purchaseable items. Every plot had its own washing line and picnic bench up, and electric hook up and water tap were right next to the plot. There were walks accessible directly from the campsite in the forest and up the nearest hill at Irton Pike. There was no road traffic noise and we only saw the occasional military airplane.

Cabana pod

Em va agradar Everything was great during our stay! The site is spotlessly clean, run by the really friendly & knowledgeable Sandy & Bruce - I can’t fault anything! It’s a gem of a campsite & we will definitely be back.
We stayed in the shepherd’s hut - it was me & my 20 year old daughter. Stayed 2 nights to climb Scafell Pike. Excellent location, very peaceful and the views are postcard worthy.
We hired a fire pit & got the logs along with the S’mores kit - it was lovely as it got darker to see fire pits being lit up around the site.
Facilities wise there was everything I needed. I didn’t use the WiFi so can’t comment on that.
I’m secretly hoping people ignore this positive review so that it stays a hidden gem!!

Llocs d'interès

Legs a little worn out from walking/biking/riding? Take a scenic trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale steam railway – there’s a station half a mile from Parkgate Farm, or you can board at Ravenglass, 10 minutes' drive away to ride the whole route. While you’re in Ravenglass, take a mooch round Muncaster Castle, a privately owned fort overlooking the River Esk. As well as tours round the castle there are also heaps of things for kids here, including an enchanted fairy trail, a maze and hawk displays. Golfing types can swing their clubs on the courses in Eskdale or Seascale (be prepared for potentially distracting sea views at the latter). There’s a sandy beach in Seascale too; if the water’s too chilly for swims, head north to Whitehaven (half an hour away) to the public swimming pool. The Rum Story, an exhibition in an original 1785 shop, is worth a visit up here too (and yes, you can buy bottles of the good stuff).
