  • Peaceful site with views over the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys
  • Half an hour's drive from the seaside town of Whitehaven
  • Fell walks directly from the farm; country pubs 10 minutes' drive
Escape to Eskdale… or Wasdale… or Ravenglass – Parkgate Farm Holidays is within easy reach of lots of pretty places in Cumbria's Western Lakeland. You don’t even have to exit the site to start taking in those views, for there’s a rather fine outlook from this peaceful farm over the Eskdale and Wasdale valleys, with fields and forests thrown in to the frame too. Tempted to take a closer look? Fell walkers can stride forth directly from the farm, while more intrepid types scramble up Scafell Pike, half an hour away. Should you tire of the endlessly gorgeous lakeland views, a 10-minute drive will take you to the beaches of the northwest coast for a bit of seaside scenery. Ravenglass and Muncaster are both within a 10-minute drive of the site too, and between them, have Muncaster Fell and castle, a steam railway and the ruins of a Roman bathhouse. If you don’t fancy cooking, there are a couple of country pubs within 10 minutes’ drive of the site.

What customers say

This tranquil campsite offers spectacular views and is praised for its friendly and helpful wardens, Sandy and Bruce. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are consistently described as immaculate and well-maintained. Guests appreciate the spacious pitches, dog-friendliness, and additional touches like fire pits and s'mores packs. While the remote location is a draw for many, the access road is noted as steep and rough.

Non-electric grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked We arrived very last minute - ten mins from booking! But we were made to feel so welcome. We booked for 1 night and ended up staying 4 nights. The site was technically fully booked but they made room for us, and it was such a lovely place. It really was perfect for us - great views, nice quiet site and some privacy on our pitch. Facilities were top notch too! So handy having a freezer as not many sites do now. We even did a walk on our last day by their recommendation, and they provided parking for us. We will be back - thank you so much

Liked Beautiful quiet site. Deer grazing dusk and dawn. Owls, frogs, toads, swallows, buzzards and the beautiful donkeys. Helpful friendly staff. Wood and smores were a highlight. Van had everything we needed and was clean and comfortable. Walk from the site or shirt drive to wastwater where we swam, kayak and paddleboard. Net and bucket fishing was great for the younger ones. Another short drive to emerald falls where we dipped in the pools which were crystal clear. Scarfell pike was climbed by some in our party too.
Amazing holiday and memories, highly recommend this site and area and hope to return soon. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Liked Parkgate Farm is a perfect campsite. Peaceful, clean showers/toilets, a shop with what you need, laundry, firepit/bbqs, and amazing staff/service. We have visited 100s of campsites, this one is the best, especially on a sunny day. We will definitely be back. Darren and Lucy x

Local attractions

Legs a little worn out from walking/biking/riding? Take a scenic trip on the Ravenglass & Eskdale steam railway – there’s a station half a mile from Parkgate Farm, or you can board at Ravenglass, 10 minutes' drive away to ride the whole route. While you’re in Ravenglass, take a mooch round Muncaster Castle, a privately owned fort overlooking the River Esk. As well as tours round the castle there are also heaps of things for kids here, including an enchanted fairy trail, a maze and hawk displays. Golfing types can swing their clubs on the courses in Eskdale or Seascale (be prepared for potentially distracting sea views at the latter). There’s a sandy beach in Seascale too; if the water’s too chilly for swims, head north to Whitehaven (half an hour away) to the public swimming pool. The Rum Story, an exhibition in an original 1785 shop, is worth a visit up here too (and yes, you can buy bottles of the good stuff).
