Irton House Farm: Pitches on site

General

  • Peaceful site on a farm five minutes' drive from Bassenthwaite
  • Spectacular views over Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw
  • Distillery and wildlife park within a few minutes' drive

Let’s face it, if you’re off to the Lake District you’re likely to be looking for lots of chances to look at lakes. So put a big tick in that box for Irton House Farm, a peaceful place where watery views can be had without even leaving your pitch.

And it’s not just any old lake that forms the backdrop here: you’ll be looking out over Bassenthwaite, one of the area’s largest and loveliest (and in a region of pretty stiff competition too). Being a farm site, you’ll share those views with the resident sheep and chickens, but around the sizeable site there's plenty of space to relax or to run about and play games. (Not outdoor-games weather? Retreat to the games room for pool and table tennis.)

As scenic as that outlook is, you’ll not be wanting to limit yourself to just the one lake, so it’s handy that there are plenty more within easy reach. Buttermere, Derwentwater and Crummock Water are all within a half-hour drive, as is the Solway coast if you fancy a blast of sea air with your aquatic views.

Getting out for a walk or a bike ride is pretty straightforward on local paths, and you can safely get all mucky knowing that a bike wash and free heated shower block await your return. Post-activity pubs and grub can be had five minutes away in Bassenthwaite or with a slightly longer drive to Cockermouth.

Please note

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

    Everything!

The showers and toilets are so clean and lovely. The view from the campsite is so nice too.

The pitches have a clearly marked astroturf area for your tent so that you're not sleeping on rocks or on a slant. It's so well organised and the firepits are a nice touch.

You're close enough to both Cockermouth and Keswick to be able to enjoy everything both towns have to offer and there are so many amazing walks to do.

We will definitely be staying here again 🙂

Great location, helpful & friendly site owners. The view from our pitch was breath taking, the toilet shower facilities were Immaculate, free firewood was provided for the firepits, I've seen other reviews mentioning that they couldn't get a mobile phone signal but both my wife and I had no issues. Would 100% recommend this site to anyone. We will be going back next year.

This is our favourite site of all the sites we have visited in the UK - the views are absolutely incredible and it is so peaceful! The pitches are huge and the facilities are excellent - the washing up station has the best view you'll ever find! The owners are lovely and very laid back - they're always busy as it's a working farm so are very visible should you need them for anything. You can walk from the site to Bassenthwaite Lake in about 45 mins and it's also close to an animal park and Armathwaite Hall, which we love. Do not hesitate to book this little piece of Paradise!

    Irton House Farm ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Recently had a six night stay, pitched in the paddock with electric, which comes with the amazing view! Generous size pitches, with fire pits, logs available to buy on site.
Fantastic experience in every way. We were lucky enough to have good weather in September ☀️
Friendly site owners, very clean and tidy site, exceptionally clean facilities, lovely warm showers, nice little area for washing the dishes.. with a view! Friendly, gorgeous animals with free roaming hens🐏🐑🐴🐓🐶🐇🐾(I’m a big animal lover, so I was in my element), working farm which was fascinating to watch, site owners talk you through what they are doing and happy to answer any questions.
Highly recommended site, there was no fault even if I tried looking for one!
Will definitely be back next year.
Thank you for our pleasant stay with you 😊

Great 10/10 rating thanks. Sorry for the rain, we do need a bit from time to time to top the lakes up, just a shame you seem to get a lot while you were here.
