Irton House Farm: Pitches with views (photo added by manager on 24/08/2022)

General

  • Peaceful site on a farm five minutes' drive from Bassenthwaite
  • Spectacular views over Bassenthwaite Lake and Skiddaw
  • Distillery and wildlife park within a few minutes' drive

Let’s face it, if you’re off to the Lake District you’re likely to be looking for lots of chances to look at lakes. So put a big tick in that box for Irton House Farm, a peaceful place where watery views can be had without even leaving your pitch.

And it’s not just any old lake that forms the backdrop here: you’ll be looking out over Bassenthwaite, one of the area’s largest and loveliest (and in a region of pretty stiff competition too). Being a farm site, you’ll share those views with the resident sheep and chickens, but around the sizeable site there's plenty of space to relax or to run about and play games. (Not outdoor-games weather? Retreat to the games room for pool and table tennis.)

As scenic as that outlook is, you’ll not be wanting to limit yourself to just the one lake, so it’s handy that there are plenty more within easy reach. Buttermere, Derwentwater and Crummock Water are all within a half-hour drive, as is the Solway coast if you fancy a blast of sea air with your aquatic views.

Getting out for a walk or a bike ride is pretty straightforward on local paths, and you can safely get all mucky knowing that a bike wash and free heated shower block await your return. Post-activity pubs and grub can be had five minutes away in Bassenthwaite or with a slightly longer drive to Cockermouth.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

Always good to see you guys back. Thanks for the great photos, and review and for booking the e-bike tour. Not a bad way to spend your afternoon in the Lake District. Hope to see you again this season, maybe try your hand at Clay Pigeon Shooting this year.

Staff are brilliant, site is phenomenal. Strongly recommend the hot tub surrounded by their beautiful sheep. Try and get as much time her as possible, Thursday - Sunday would work well as they do lots of activities, sadly we didn’t have enough time to do them which is a real shame. Amazing location, fantastic facilities. Hot shower and beautiful animals. 10/10

Good to see you enjoyed some of the extra features we offer at Irton House, and that endless heated pool always looks inviting with that view. It just means you will have to come back again to try out the E-Mountain Bike Tour, Clay Target Shooting and Indoor Air Rifle Shooting next time.

Thanks for the great review.

We have been visiting Irton House Farm for a number of years and it just keeps getting better. It is well worth coming just for the stunning view to be honest but when you add in the friendly welcome and superb facilities it makes the trip even more worthwhile.
We were on the Latrigg pitch. It’s own ehu with plenty of amps, we have a large tourer but had no problem with electricity tripping out. The water point is close, as is grey water and cdp.
We had a clay shooting experience which was great fun and professionally run, perfectly safe and something very different.
Lin and Nic are the perfect hosts, nothing is too much trouble. They are always happy to stop for a chat and spend time with their guests.

Bear in mind, this is a working farm do you may hear sheep munching during the night!

In all this is the perfect spot to explore the North West Lakes. We will certainly visit again!

Thanks for the great review. The horses and sheep always like visitors and our farm educational/fun tour in the quad bike trailer, around the 250-acre farm fields, proves to be very popular with the kids and to be honest with the adults too.
