What customers say

This friendly, adult-only working farm campsite offers beautiful countryside views and a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors appreciated the welcoming owners, the presence of roaming farm animals including dogs, and the provision of fire pits. Facilities are described as basic but clean and functional, with some mentioning the rustic charm. While most found the site excellent value, a few noted the ground could be rocky for pitching tents and some minor issues with facilities.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely quiet site. Clean toilets and showers with warm water. Louise and family very welcoming and happy to help. The two mischievous cairn terriers that came to chill with us on an evening.

Walk to the village was nice. About 40 minutes flat walk, two pubs, butcher, baker etc.

Disliked The bugs! Don't forget your insect repellent and citronella EVERYTHING.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked I liked it was a working farm, on a hillside with amazing views. Can walk down to village using the disused railway line, all woodland, so shaded. Village has pubs, food, butchers and shop.
Each pitch has a fire pit
Friendly owner and pet dogs that can smell a bbq from a mile away. Toilets and showers ‘quirky’ complete with spiders webs … don’t expect 5* luxury loos/showers

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Owners were vey friendly

Disliked Owners were so friendly that they let people pitch their tents at 1am, loads of loud talking, banging car doors and even setting a car alarm off. Another arrived at 11pm and shone their lights through the tents and let their engine idle for at last 30 mins. Choked to sleep.

From the manager: Ohh dear, I’m really saddened to read your review. Our last time for checking in 7.30pm. If guest have been held up in traffic then we accommodate but not after 9.00pm at the very latest. Unfortunately I will have to think about a new rule of locking the gates at the cut off time. I’ve been running my campsite for 18 years and this is the first time I have had this behaviour brought to my attention.
I’m really sorry that the thoughtless actions of others spoilt your stay.

Local attractions

Of the many footpaths straight from the farm, the main one is the Foxfield to Broughton route along a disused railway line right into Broughton. Other paths can take you to the Broughton Mills area, Seathwaite valley and Ulpha valley; ask the Moss Farm team to point you in the right direction. If you're in the area for watersports, Coniston Lake, the third biggest in the Lake District, is the closest to the farm and is 10 minutes' drive away. Otherwise try pony trekking at Spoon Hall near Coniston, Muirthwaite Green at Silecroft or Cumbrian Heavy Horses in the Whicham Valley, all within 15 minutes' drive. Historic house fans have many in the area to pick from, like Muncaster Castle, Sizer Castle, Holker Hall and Levens Hall, as well as many National Trust houses such as Dove House in Grasmere, home of daffs man William Wordsworth. The towns of Windermere and Ambleside are about 20 minutes' drive away, as is South Lakes Animal Park at Dalton-in-Furness, an attractive option for animal fans. The staff at the Broughton-in-Furness tourist information centre can give you tips on what's best to see and do.
