General

  • Pop-up wild camping at an equestrian centre in the Eden Valley, Cumbri
  • A 30-minute drive to Ullswater lake, and 45 minutes to Hadrian’s Wall
  • Back-to-basics site, with pubs and shops within five minutes’ drive

Tucked away in the peaceful, rural village of Brampton, Ivy House’s pop-up camping field has views over the Eden Valley in gorgeous Cumbrian countryside. In fact, with only a handful of pitches, it’s so quiet up here that hens and the resident horses may be your only close neighbours.

So what about the basics to keep you all comfy and cosy on site? Well, this being wild camping, facilities are pretty minimal, but there’s a loo in the farmyard (bring a torch for nocturnal wanderings) and the grass pitches are level and sheltered by mature trees. No need to worry about the car, either, as there’s secure parking in the farmyard.

The market town of Appleby-in-Westmorland (five minutes) has got butchers and bakers if you feel like firing up the barbecue, and there are plenty of pubs sure to tempt you in if you don’t feel like cooking. And this being Cumbria, there’s a cinema there to cater for any rainy days.

When you’ve ready for the off, several hiking and cycling routes can be accessed from the quiet lanes around the site, from a family-friendly trot around Gelt Woods (45 minutes) to more serious striding out in the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Very Lovely and welcoming. Jo took me around the farm as well and is super accommodating.

Pitch is pretty basic with a clean toilet without any shower facility about a few minutes walk to the pitch site. The pitch and the view are pleasant. We stayed in a motorhome and my motorhome needed charging. Jo helped us even with that. However, this is not an electric pitch but she was super considerate in offering us.

All in all, I would love to pitch here again.

Friendly welcome, nice flat pitch for my campervan although it slopes a little on some bits. Basic facilities on a pop up site but water available and toilet was nice and clean. Good views, animals to look at, really quite dark for star watching, although cloudy on my stopover. I liked it.

Could do with a sign to make it easier to find, that is a suggestion not a complaint.
