  • Peaceful setting overlooking the Cheshire Plain, close to Whitchurch
  • On National Cycle Route 47, and near Sandstone Trail walkers’ path
  • Within easy reach of pubs with gin nights and authentic curries
Looking for a peaceful spot where you don’t have to sacrifice the luxury of nearby pubs and restaurants? Head to Cheshire site Marbury Camp and Lodge, where you can look out over the Cheshire Plain by day and devour pub grub by night – the team on site can point you towards gin evenings and excellent curries… a winning combo after a day of exploring. Speaking of exploring, there are enough walks and bike routes around to ensure you get your fill of countryside. The site is right on a national cycle route so make sure you pack your bike helmet – the site owners can help with bike hire and a map of the local cycle routes too. If walking is more your thing you can link up with the Sandstone Trail for 34 miles of unbroken, and often elevated, walking. The outdoor adventures don’t stop there, as this place is a great base for golfing, shooting and fishing as well, with all found within around four miles of the site. Worn out just by reading the activities dotted around? There’s also plenty to do if you’re after a more chilled day. The nearby local market towns of Whitchurch (three miles away) and Nantwich (eight miles) have various market days and plenty of shopping, eating and drinking options. Supplies can also be sourced closer to home in the village of Wrenbury, a mile away. Site amenities include a shower block and chemical disposal, and there's also the option to hire firepits (subject to availability).

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked It has large pitches so you are not all camped on top of each other. Each pitch has a picnic table which was great having to not lift chairs out the tent etc at meal times. The toilets, showers and wash up area was clean and hygienic etc.

Disliked Some of the pitches are slightly slanted so try and get there early to get a good one or you end up slowly sliding down the hill in the night

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi there,

Thanks for the review. Yes, some pitches are on a gradient as advertised. We are however adding more level pitches as we go along.

Cheers,

D

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely site in a peaceful and beautiful location. Toilets/showers great, great wildlife in the surrounding fields. The children particularly loved the mud hill! 😂 Owners very friendly. Very reasonably priced for our stay

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Lol. That "mud hill" is me levelling off pitches as we extend the site/dug out the fire pit area. Sadly, as we've not grassed it yet, the children appear to have turned into badgers and dug it up.

Cheers,

D

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Great location, with a beautiful view. Very close to Bewilderwood. We went on a very hot weekend, the owner had set up sprinklers for the children to run through and keep cool. A freezer with ice lollies & ice etc to purchase, was a bonus on a hit weekend too.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked We had a great time. Got a little nervous after reading the comments however we had a lovely time. Nice site, peaceful location, clean shower block although it did flood once but thats on the guests.
Kids were able to have lots of fun with the sprinkler. Cheap drinks available! We didn't have the pizza but wish we did!

Disliked Be good to have a little park area for the kids

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi there,

Thanks for the comments.

We will add a kids ares when we can afford it. The last quote we got was £12,000 for two swings and you can't use domestic kit. In the interim, we've put some disc golf nets on site and a ping pong table.

More will be added in the future.

Cheers,

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Stunning views. Quieter, smaller site, not too big and plenty of space between tents.

Friendly owners on site and helpful.

Disliked Cant quite say its a dislike as such but, some pitches were on quite a slope which did make things difficult inside our tent. But I will say this the pitch we chose as it was what was left when we arrived that didnt compromise the view.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thanks for the review. Some of the pitches are on a slope as advertised, but there's plenty of spaces that aren't. Also, we have more space than pitches we offer if that makes sense.

D

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The view

Disliked Toilets and showers were very grubby
Noisy narrow road
Nothing to do on site, no sign of owners

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi,

Thanks for the review, in response:

The Toilets and Shower block is cleaned everyday and checked at another time everyday so we are surprised to hear this as we had not received any complaints.

The country lanes are narrow but we don't have issues with any road noise, country lanes do mean there are tractors etc so this may have been the noise you heard?

Nothing to do on site, happy to receive any ideas of what you would like to see. We currently offer disc golf & game hire, reading books, local walks and much more in the area.

The owners were on site doing maintenance, in the office/shop and gardening every day.

Great place to stay!

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked Great little site bit too remote make sure you take everything you need it’s quite a trek for supplies and the roads arnt the best . Thought the owners could have been a bit more friendly I get the check in is remote etc and that’s how they want to run the buisness but there was no face to face communication at all .
Everything was great up untill Saturday night when me and my husband were sat in the tent music on very low chatting and someone came and told us to turn the music off that’s a reasonable request you might think !!! Not when there was a party of about 9 tents and a caravan making lots of noise playing games at the bottom of the field and very rowdy , didn’t bother us one bit just the fact we seem to be targeted out for no reason this put us off visiting again very unfair so unfortunately won’t be back

Disliked Not face to face communication and when you did see the owner he didn’t speak anyway

From the manager: Hi Angela,

Thanks for the review. In response:

1. Thanks for saying we are a great little site and yes we are rural and we advertise as such. I am not sure what supplies you needed but Whitchurch/Wrenbury are 2 miles away and we have a small shop and vending machine on site .The local shop in Wrenbury also delivers. If you'd have asked me, I would have pointed you in the right direction.
2. As the owners being more friendly, I can't help that I dislike customers ; ). I did however speak to you when you pulled up to pitch your tent (I was cutting grass if you remember) and advised that if you need me either find me outside or WhatsApp me or go to reception. I was then outside for another couple of hours filling fire pits in front of you. Aside from that, I agree, I was nowhere to be seen. If you want to natter, pop over. I won't bother people after saying hello unless they need something.
3. I told you to turn the music off after 9pm as we operate quiet hours after that time as you know. I had already asked the other larger group to quieten down and they did so. I appreciate that a few people will get embarrassed about being told to be quiet, which seems to be the main thrust of your review, but I treat eveyone the same. If you want to go to a site that allows noise in the evening, choose a site that allows that. Don't be surprised if a site owner attempts to maintain their own site rules.

Hope you find a site to your liking in the future.

Cheers,

D

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked The site was fantastic very clean and tidy lovely little hidden gem.

Disliked was kept awake till 3am due to big gatherings which were quite noisy we picked this site because it states its quieter after 9 am not a party pooper but 3am is pushing it a little.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Shelly,

Thanks for the review. It's the first I've heard of it sorry. Yes, groups can be a pain but I will always nip out between 9 and 10pm to remind people to be quiet. I'll then give it 15 mins or so to see if they are quietening down and if not give a second warning. On the third warning they're going home. Unless I hear something from the house or someone messages me, I won't go out again and it's not reasonable to expect I would stay out all night to check for noise. I would expect people to have some common decency. On the night in question I told a large group to knock the noise on the head and they complied. I also told a couple to turn their music off and they took the hump and gave a bad review.

All the best,

D
