Marbury Camp and Lodge: Fully-serviced grass pitch

General

  • Peaceful setting overlooking the Cheshire Plain, close to Whitchurch
  • On National Cycle Route 47, and near Sandstone Trail walkers’ path
  • Within easy reach of pubs with gin nights and authentic curries

Looking for a peaceful spot where you don’t have to sacrifice the luxury of nearby pubs and restaurants? Head to Cheshire site Marbury Camp and Lodge, where you can look out over the Cheshire Plain by day and devour pub grub by night – the team on site can point you towards gin evenings and excellent curries… a winning combo after a day of exploring.

Speaking of exploring, there are enough walks and bike routes around to ensure you get your fill of countryside. The site is right on a national cycle route so make sure you pack your bike helmet – the site owners can help with bike hire and a map of the local cycle routes too. If walking is more your thing you can link up with the Sandstone Trail for 34 miles of unbroken, and often elevated, walking. The outdoor adventures don’t stop there, as this place is a great base for golfing, shooting and fishing as well, with all found within around four miles of the site.

Worn out just by reading the activities dotted around? There’s also plenty to do if you’re after a more chilled day. The nearby local market towns of Whitchurch (three miles away) and Nantwich (eight miles) have various market days and plenty of shopping, eating and drinking options. Supplies can also be sourced closer to home in the village of Wrenbury, a mile away.

Site amenities include a shower block and chemical disposal, and there's also the option to hire firepits (subject to availability).

Shower and toilet block were spotless! Love the fact we were allowed a fire and the picnic benches next to each pitch! Can tell a lot of thought has also gone into covid restrictions too with the fantastic option to book shower slots.

Beautiful views. Generally a really lovely area of the country. Dog area was also a big plus. Well maintained and attractive campsite.

    Disliked:

Sloping pitches made for awkward camping, but the owners are building new leveller ones which will be a big improvement.
Covid has meant that shower times were booked. Unfortunately this system didn’t work well. We had people walking in during our allotted time and saw the same happening to others. It caused an undercurrent of friction amongst the campers. The owners had mentioned keeping the system as it worked well, but I would encourage them not too, as it didn’t really work at all.
To be fair I can understand how parents of young kids would struggle to get them to understand that there’s a 10 minute time slot every 30 minutes when they can go to the loo, also trying to get a family washed in just 20 mins is tricky with young ones. We felt rushed and we were 2 adults and a 10 year old.

From the manager...

Hi there,

Thanks for the review.

Understand what you're saying about the system. It's not perfect, but we've had 3 complaints during the entirety of lockdown that I can recall.

If we didn't use the system, people would still walk in because you wouldn't have your own allocated shower time, so I'm not sure of the logic of abandoning the system.

If 75% of our customers use the system and stick to it, we reduce the risk of Covid transmission. No system is perfect, but we must all do our part; that or close shower blocks like other camp sites have done previously.

As to 20mins not being enough; just book more slots. I tell everyone book as many as they like. Not once have we 'sold out' of shower slots.

All the best,

David, Emma and Pants

Beautiful location and a lovely site. The views are fabulous. Its a very well maintained site and we seen the owner every day cutting grass and doing stuff on the site.
The toilet and shower block was spotless.
It's a great location with lots of things to do nearby. Very close to the new BeWILDerwood which was a fabulous day out.

    Disliked:

The only negative thing to say about this site is that the camping pitches are on a slope.

Good facilities, clean and tidy site, fantastic views friendly owner fairly remote but nice location really enjoyed ur stay here with walks along canals in Whitchurch and plenty to see and do. fully serviced pitches with plenty of space around them for a car and awning, lovely to see the hot air balloons across the Chester skyline. large field area for the kids to run wild

    Disliked:

Quiet single track country road can make it awkward when towing to/from the location but worth it, a few people found the road incline to the touring pitches quite steep and heavy going in a front wheel drive car but still made it without assistance.

Beautiful site in the heart of the countryside but within driving distance of Whitchurch. We got a lovely welcome from the site owner who was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The site and facilities were clean and tidy and our pitch was spacious enough for our large tent. We have already recommended to friends and family and we would like to return soon.
