Manor Wood Country Caravan Park: Lakeside views

General

  • Well-equipped countryside park 12 miles from Chester
  • Award-winning amenities, plenty of space and Chester Zoo ticket sales
  • Pool, fishing lakes, tennis, play area, games and dog-friendly café

Some people prefer to keep their holidays very basic and remote indeed. Some people do not – and seek a spot with excellent leisure facilities, spotless amenities and customer-friendly approach… the better to get on with the important aspects of a holiday without stressing about the essentials.

If this too is you, make your way to Manor Wood Country Park in green Cheshire countryside, where there’s loads to do on site, and where the amenities are so immaculate they’ve been given awards. Off site is pretty pleasing too, as Manor Wood is an easily accessible 25 minutes’ drive from Chester, Chester Castle and Chester Racecourse – and Chester Zoo, so say the kids, who’ll doubtless point out that their grownups can buy zoo tickets on site too.

The park is in a nicely rural setting, home to two fishing lakes that adults and families can cast off at, and to a vast range of leisurely options indoors and out. The outdoor pool opens from the beginning of May – whatever the weather; a climbing frame and play area are in the grounds and a games room with pool, table football and table tennis is indoors to take care of any inclement times. Back outside, tennis courts are available free of charge to all customers.

A minute’s drive or half a mile’s stroll from Coddington, Manor Wood is surrounded by Cheshire and Nottinghamshire villages to pick up local produce and picnic bits and pieces. Make time/room too for a foray to the park’s Lakeside Café on several occasions during your stay, for breakfast, snacks and light lunches to have indoors or outside while the kids investigate the play area; the café building also has free wifi, takeaway options and a small shop selling essentials and caravan supplies. Dogs are welcome... so much so that they have their own section on the menu...

Those who prefer things just a little quieter on their countryside hol are invited to book from Monday to Friday in low season, to properly soak up the peaceful Cheshire surrounds.

Everything lovley peaceful site. Shower and toilet block exceptionally clean. Has outdoor pool but was not in use due to the time of year we travelled and two small parks which would be great for the grandchildren.

    Disliked:

It's not a dislike as such but small reception shop could of been a bit better stocked. I did need washing up liquid but was not in stock so a member of the team gave me some of hers which was very appreciated.

Professional, friendly welcome from staff. Site was well maintained, with good sized pitches and great space inbetween each pitch. The facilities were clean, spacious and well equipped to cater for families with young children.
There are well lit and maintained pathways around the site and lakes with two children's play areas which are safe and great fun. Staff provided a Halloween event for families which was great fun and well thought through.
The onsite shop and cafe provided lovely food for a good price and beautiful views across the lake from the decked area.

    Disliked:

Poor to no wifi connectivity, we purchased a package from a recommended third party provided by the site staff but still struggled.

Very pleasant staff, good shower / toilet block facilities. Quiet surroundings and within a couple of miles of main link roads to everywhere else.

    Disliked:

The only concern was a lack of a good sized drain point for emptying grey waste from a motorhome before leaving for home. Something they were apparently going to work on sometime in the future. I would still return here without hesitation.

Beeston Castle, 20 minutes’ drive away just outside Tarpoley, are fortress ruins on a sandstone plain with spectacular views – across eight counties and over to Wales.

Kids now revolting after watermill and castle time? The rides, farm and many flavours of Ice Cream Farm adventure park are within 15 minutes’ drive.
