  • Well-equipped countryside park 12 miles from Chester
  • Award-winning amenities, plenty of space and Chester Zoo ticket sales
  • Seasonal pool, fishing lakes, tennis, play area, games and café
Some people prefer to keep their holidays very basic and remote indeed. Some people do not – and seek a spot with excellent leisure facilities, spotless amenities and customer-friendly approach… the better to get on with the important aspects of a holiday without stressing about the essentials. If this too is you, make your way to Manor Wood Country Caravan Park in green Cheshire countryside, where there’s loads to do on site, and where the amenities are so immaculate they’ve been given awards. Off site is pretty pleasing too, as Manor Wood is an easily accessible 25 minutes’ drive from Chester, Chester Castle and Chester Racecourse – and Chester Zoo, so say the kids, who’ll doubtless point out that their grownups can buy zoo tickets on site too. The park is in a nicely rural setting, home to two fishing lakes that adults and families can cast off at, and to a vast range of leisurely options indoors and out. The outdoor pool is open from the beginning of May through to September (whatever the weather), a climbing frame and play area are in the grounds and a games room with pool, table football and table tennis is indoors to take care of any inclement times. Back outside, tennis courts are available free of charge to all customers. A minute’s drive or half a mile’s stroll from Coddington, Manor Wood is surrounded by Cheshire and Nottinghamshire villages to pick up local produce and picnic bits and pieces. Make time/room too for a foray to the Lakeside Café on several occasions during your stay, for breakfast, snacks and light lunches to have indoors or outside while the kids investigate the play area; the café building also has free wifi, takeaway options and a small shop selling essentials and caravan supplies. Dogs are welcome too... so much so that they have their own section on the menu... Those who prefer things just a little quieter on their countryside holiday are invited to book from Monday to Friday in low season, to soak up the peaceful Cheshire surrounds in a more peaceful manner.

Liked Amazing little campsite. Very friendly and helpful staff. Lovely bar with outdoor seating area by the lake. Outdoor pool very the highlight. Stayed in term time midweek so didnt need to book a time slot. Spent all day by the pool which was gorgeous. Plenty of showers and toilets. Would be beneficial if they could be cleaned once a day as they became untidy and the same mess was there for several days. Milkshake & icecream vending machines were a great touch

Disliked Restaurant stops serving around 3pm so unfortunately we missed out on trying this. No shops locally and no takeaways so struggled with meals if you arent prepared

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked Best campsite we've ever had the pleasure of staying. Our 4th visit and definitely not our last. The grounds are beautifully kept... pitches are spacious... facilities second to none that we've experienced. Surrounded by nature... and even had a little army of ducks that were so friendly visiting us every day. The staff are so helpful and cant do enough to accommodate you and make sure your stay is great. Special shout out to Colin... who is so friendly... and nothing was too much trouble.... even when going out of his way and staying a little late to keep the pool open slightly later so you could get a bit of exercise. On the last day we had to leave ( today) they even opened the pool early so we could get a final stint of exercise in. Overall can't recommend this place highly enough. If you're looking for a relaxing little piece of heaven... to get away from it all for a while.... this place is the best. A lovely pub just 5 mins walk too... for a nice meal and treat. And also the onside cafe is exceptional for food and drink... with beautiful views when you sit out overlooking the lake. Can't wait to return... and very sad to leave.

Liked Such a beautiful site. Perfect for families with young children. My boys were never bored. Great staff who made the effort with us each day! Ducks wandering around us every day (my youngest loved this). Lots of wildlife to see. Very well kept site. Highly recommend.

6-amp electric grass tent pitch

Liked Just returned from a Fri-Mon stay here with my young daughter and I'm already spying a free weekend where we can return!
We had a 6-amp camping pitch slightly out of the way of the main area, which was nice and quiet, and the pitch itself was perfect - no struggling to get your pegs hammered in. Toilets were a minutes walk away, which were clean and there was never any queue's.
There's two main parks for the kids and also a small one in the beer garden area. Outdoor pool was great - you can book a 60 minute slot from 9am that day and it didn't get overrun while we were in there, though that was from 10-11am, might be busier later in the day.
Not far from Chester and other places - we drove out to Whitchurch on the Saturday for something to eat and a look around, so its not one of those sites where you're in the middle of nowhere with minimal options.
Bar area was nice, had many a pint in there while my child ran around in the park area.
Couple of fishing lakes which adds to the scenic feel to the place.
The main touring/camping area next to the main play area seemed very lively, large groups having a good old sing-song with loud music on which is fine, they were just enjoying themselves but I was glad that we weren't camped next to them - our field was definitely the quieter place to stay!
All in all, a great stay - you could be fooled into thinking you're on a proper holiday site next to the beach!

Disliked £6 a pint of lager was a bit steep, basically London prices.

Local attractions

There’s plenty to do around Manor Wood for those days you’re not mooching around Chester (although do mooch around Chester for some considerable time too). Drive about five minutes’ south for walks around the green space lying between Stretton and Clutton; a golf course and Stretton Watermill are here to stop off at. Beeston Castle, 20 minutes’ drive away just outside Tarporley, is a site of fortress ruins on a sandstone plain with spectacular views – across eight counties and over to Wales. Kids now revolting after watermill and castle time? The rides, farm and many flavours of The Ice Cream Farm adventure park are within 15 minutes’ drive.
