  • Small, quiet well-maintained family farm site just outside Silkstone
  • Just off the Trans Pennine Trail and a few miles from Peak District
  • Pubs, supermarket and train station all within walking distance
Heading off into the countryside for a walk or two? Or perhaps hoping to ride bikes along quiet lanes? Stay at South Yorkshire’s Broad Close Farm, just outside the village of Silkstone, and you’ll be able to stroll (or pedal) straight out into woodlands or onto rural pathways. And there’s more… this small and well-maintained site is handy for getting out to or set out to see intriguing places like Pot House Hamlet and the historic site of the Huskar Pit disaster. The Silkstone Waggonway is close by for more cycling and strolling days, and more intrepid bike riders might like to note that this farm is just off the Trans Pennine Trail (roughly at its halfway point, in fact). And of course, the Peak District National Park is but a few miles away… If that all sounds a bit too energetic, you can instead tour the area by train from the local station (10 minutes’ walk away and part of the scenic Penistone line) or hail a bus from the village. All sorts of attractions are close by too, including farm parks, stately homes and the national coal mining museum. Being rural doesn’t mean being cut off around here: a walk of five minutes or so will get you up to the village for two pubs, a steak house and a small supermarket (perhaps to pick up supplies for an evening by the barbecue or campfire back at the farm?)

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious field in a great location to explore the Peak District. If you have kids the animals are great to see. Check in was painless, the owner was pleasant and quickly ran through everything including the shower facilities which were very clean.

Disliked A little close to a road that you cross for the showers but it wasn’t too busy.

Liked Pitch was great as we found a flat spot
Showers, toilets and wash facilities were clean, we also used the freezer for our cool box blocks. Plenty of decent walks around the area. Shop within walking distance for supplies

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great atmosphere.
Highland cows and other animals in the next field.
Cheap nightly rate.
Dog friendly.
Crossing the road to the toilet block wasnt an issue like some reviews said.

Disliked Only 2 toilets and 2 showers in the main block so often had queues. (Id recommend bringing a towel to stand on when getting out the shower as the floor was wet from others using).
Field is sloping.
Need hard pegs.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Surrounded by animals
Quiet (only 2 other campers on a school night)
Dog friendly
Friendly owner
Hot showers and toilets at both end of field

Disliked As others have said, it’s a bit slopey, so I imagine if it was busy you might struggle to find somewhere flat. But it wasn’t busy!
