  • Small, quiet well-maintained family farm site just outside Silkstone
  • Just off the Trans Pennine Trail and a few miles from Peak District
  • Pubs, supermarket and train station all within walking distance
Heading off into the countryside for a walk or two? Or perhaps hoping to ride bikes along quiet lanes? Stay at South Yorkshire’s Broad Close Farm, just outside the village of Silkstone, and you’ll be able to stroll (or pedal) straight out into woodlands or onto rural pathways. And there’s more… this small and well-maintained site is handy for getting out to or set out to see intriguing places like Pot House Hamlet and the historic site of the Huskar Pit disaster. The Silkstone Waggonway is close by for more cycling and strolling days, and more intrepid bike riders might like to note that this farm is just off the Trans Pennine Trail (roughly at its halfway point, in fact). And of course, the Peak District National Park is but a few miles away… If that all sounds a bit too energetic, you can instead tour the area by train from the local station (10 minutes’ walk away and part of the scenic Penistone line) or hail a bus from the village. All sorts of attractions are close by too, including farm parks, stately homes and the national coal mining museum. Being rural doesn’t mean being cut off around here: a walk of five minutes or so will get you up to the village for two pubs, a steak house and a small supermarket (perhaps to pick up supplies for an evening by the barbecue or campfire back at the farm?)

What customers say

This is a friendly, rural farm campsite with spacious, level pitches and beautiful countryside views. Guests praised the helpful owners, clean facilities, and the enjoyable presence of farm animals. The location is excellent for walking, cycling, and visiting nearby attractions and pubs. While some facilities were noted as basic and in need of freshening up, many found the site to be great value and would happily return.

Liked Lovely campsite. The field is slightly slopping in parts but we found a flat patch for our van. The showers/toilets are across the road but it's a quiet enough road to cross. (Some toilets @ the lower end of the field but we didn't visit them.) Loved the Highland Coo's in the next field.
Good location... Only a 5 minute walk to a mini supermarket & a couple of pubs. Ideal location for the Trans Pennine Trail.

Liked Area was beautiful. Shop & fuel nearby
Lovely little walk for a stroll with your dog
Right off the site . Facilities on site were
Reasonably good. Would stay here again.
Great hiking to do in surrounding area. And plenty of pubs for meals close by.

Disliked Quite hard to get a flat pitch in the lower part of the field.
The extra toilets in the field needed refreshing. But there were other ones to use .

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Great lovely little site close to a few pubs and lovely countryside views. Fire pits available for free and owner really lovely

Disliked There was a group of approx 20 that were very loud and sweary. As advertised as small and quiet I don’t think the site is big enough for such a large group as they just took over most of the the space and facilities needed cleaning more then daily over busy bank holidays.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked What a gorgeous farm, lovely scenery with goats, cows and donkeys who are all really friendly, and the nicest hosts ever who will do anything to make your stay comfortable. Flat pitches that were well maintained, immaculate facilities that were spotless and stocked with essentials, and plenty of room on the field for activities. The location is also perfect for loads of different things to do for all ages; we visited 2 pubs/restaurants close by, Calypso Cave at Barnsley Metrodome, Cannon Hall Farm and an all day free arcade at the Retrodome, all within 5/10 minutes drive. Lovely area and friendly attentive owners, we will definitely be back again :)

Disliked Disliked nothing, other than that we couldn't stay for longer!

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Really friendly site with plenty of space for grandkids to play. Facilities are good, very well maintained and always very clean. Although touring site is on a hill real care has been taken to ensure that there are plenty of flat pitches. Highland cows, donkeys and goats an added bonus for the kids ( and aging adults!) Close enough ( five minutes on a bike) to the trans pennine trail with off shoot rail trails, and several nature reserves to make for several days interesting cycling. ( don’t forget your binoculars like we did !!!)

Disliked Nothing really - except for the rain !!
