  • No-frills Northumberland camping with views of Alnwick Castle
  • Five minutes’ drive from Alnwick Castle and 20 minutes from Cragside
  • Off-grid farm site with an honesty shop and livestock all around
Roll up all you Harry Potter fans – now you can embark on a camping adventure with views of Alnwick Castle, where so many scenes from the famous film franchise were shot. Set on a three-acre field, Heckley Farm Camping is a laidback, off-grid sort of a place, with a very limited number of spacious grass pitches on a working Northumberland farm. To the west of the field, a large beech hedge provides shelter from the prevailing westerly wind. Wherever you pitch on the field, you’ll be surrounded by wildlife; you can expect to see some of the barn owls, buzzards, hares and deer that live around the farm. The surrounding land is a mixture of cattle and arable farming, and you’re sure to meet the two pet pigs as well as some very friendly and free-range hens – you can buy their eggs for breakfast and pop the money in the site’s honesty box. As this is pretty much wild camping, there’s no electricity on site, although drinking water and well-maintained posh portable toilets are provided. You'll be allowed to park at your pitch for easy setting up too. It’s a firmly family-friendly vibe at this low-key, relaxed site; it is certainly not a spot for party animals.

What customers say

This is a basic, spacious campsite set in a beautiful rural location, ideal for exploring Alnwick and the wider Northumberland coast. Visitors consistently praise the friendly and helpful owners, the peaceful atmosphere, and the excellent value. Facilities include portaloos and a water tap, which are generally reported as clean, though some noted a smell after a few days. The site offers plenty of space for children to play and is a great spot for stargazing. The lack of showers is noted, but considered part of the site's simple charm.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful location, perfect for the kids to run about and play in, and the wildlife was magical - we were treated to sighting 3 hares at dusk! The owner was really helpful, caring and knowledgeable about family-friendly activities and restaurants in the local area. Loos were clean and well-stocked. We arrived along with Storm Floris, and Lance was really helpful, supportive and understanding when we left early after the storm ripped our tent. We'll definitely go back for longer next time.

Disliked Nothing - nothing to dislike!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Chose this site as it had an 8pm arrival time. As we travel alot and come from far away. We arrived bang on 8pm. This site is only a few minutes away from The Pastures parkrun. Which is why we were in the area. We had great phone signal and can pitch next to your car. There is 2 portaloos , large bin and a water tap. Really big field. Just round the cornerů from Alnwick castle too

Frankly, we only had a few hours to spare. We were caught in a heavy rainstorm, so we packed up the tent. Besides, there was no one else there. The place was so peaceful, beautiful, quiet, and clean. The restrooms were clean. A herd of cows were watching us from the adjacent field. I liked it here; I'll come back another day when there's no storm.

Disliked There are lots of black flies and they are sticking to you.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly and welcoming host, peace and quiet, and lovely views over the hills. We went at the last night of the season which meant is was only 3 tents up, which added to the charm.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good location near to Alnwick. Friendly atmosphere.

Disliked Pitchup description highlighted Castle views but the castle was not visible from any part of the field and photo showing castle and quad bike was misleading. Pitchup description also highlights “posh” loos, but the toilets were just the standard building site / festival loos with no lighting and not very nice at all. The site is on a very exposed location subject to prevailing winds.
