Electric hardstanding touring pitch
Liked: Pitches well kept. Peaceful surroundings. Shower block and toilets centrally located with washing up amend washing machines attached with water waste and bins nearby. We had a lovely peaceful weekend.
Disliked: Nothing really. Bit of a hike to castle Howard if you’re a bit challenged but other than that could not fault. Wi-Fi dipped in and out.

From the manager: Glad to hear that you enjoyed everything you experienced at Lakeside. If you do make it back to us please remember that, if you prefer, you can drive to Castle Howard and, for most of the year, park for free. The 'Kelly Car' can also transport guests around the grounds if mobility is a problem.

Liked: Clean facilities
Disliked: Avoid during busy times. It’s described as peaceful but it wasn’t. They really cram you in on the touring field - being told ‘we can get 50 units in easy’ might be true but it felt like a festival car park without a festival!!

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to write your review Kath and thank you for commenting on the cleanliness of our facilities. We appreciate your time and your views. It is a shame that your visit wasn't as you were expecting or as peaceful as you would have liked but as a very popular and lovely location we naturally have busy periods, especially some weekends through the warmer months. For the majority of the time, especially mid-week, Lakeside is a great place to chill and enjoy the surrounding countryside. Regarding the size of the camping field; it is unallocated so that guests are able to choose their pitch; many campers like to position themselves around the edge but there is still ample room in the central area of the field even when we are at our capacity.

Liked: Quiet location and proximity to Castle Howard
Disliked: The bus didn’t stop at the campsite which meant walking to Castle Howard to catch a bus

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're pleased you liked our location and facilities. We do have a community bus which stops nearby in the tiny village of Coneysthorpe but, unfortunately, this bus only comes on a Thursday and Saturday. However, if guests are able to drive to Castle Howard they can park for free at this time of year and catch the buses to York or Malton which run regularly every day.

Liked: Lovely open field, with access to the lake nearby. Shame you can't see the lake and castle from it. The showers were amazingly warm, and it was nice to have a washer and dryer on site too for a sensible price.
Disliked: Lack of view of the lake/castle. Field is a little more sloped than I would have liked...but that is me nitpicking!

From the manager: Many thanks Jonathan. The weather has been fantastic lately hasn't it? Just right for camping in our beautiful location. We're pleased that you found the facilities to your liking and that you will return.

From the manager: We are very lucky to have a lot of local attractions in this lovely area; not only is Castle Howard visible across the lake but we also have the Abouretum just one mile away. There are ancient castle remains in the nearby market towns of Helmsley and Pickering and the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey and Kirkham Priory. With the city of York, the North York Moors, the coast and Flamingo Land all within striking distance there is definitely something for everyone. We were disappointed to read that other visitors disturbed your stay whilst making their way to the walk on the lakeside. When a customer is dissatisfied with their pitch we will do our best to move them but, unfortunately, at busy weekends when we are full, it is not always possible.

Electric grass pitch
Liked: Wasn't overly impressed with anything if I'm honest.
Disliked: Quite a few things to be honest, big hole in the ground where we had to pitch was very uncomfortable but we had no choice to pitch there. The noise we had to endure from other campers and on both nights we were there we got woken up by a vehicle coming and going at 3am!!!!!!!

From the manager: Hello Stacey, thank you for taking the time to write your review. We were disappointed to read your comments and to find out that you didn't enjoy your visit to Lakeside. Thankfully, we find that your opinion is a rare one but we still appreciate what you have to say. We understand that our rural location isn't suited to everyone however most guests do love the location. We have to admit to being a little confused about the 'hole'. The pitch you had is one of two on a large grassy area and guests are permitted to choose anywhere on the patch avoiding any ruts that may have developed. Regarding the noise; the site guidelines are given to all our visitors on arrival; we trust that guests will adhere to them. Had we known after the first night that your neighbours were being noisy we could have had a discrete word with them but unfortunately, if we don't know we can't help.
