Summer camping at castle howard lakeside holiday park
Located near castle howard where you can visit the house and gardens

  • Well-maintained site with views over Castle Howard's Great Lake
  • Half an hour's walk or a five-minute drive from Castle Howard
  • Fishing and dog-walking area on site; close to a café and farm shop
Pitching up by a lake's a plus in more ways than one – as well as being an instant de-stresser, waterside surrounds can be a prime spot for fishing and, in the summer, ever-so-soothing boat trips. If you like the sound of that, hotfoot it down to Castle Howard Lakeside Holiday Park for views over Yorkshire’s poshest country estates. Fancy a stroll close to the water's edge? Go and seek out sweet and savoury goodies at the nearby café and farm shop (a mile away from site) – the latter can rustle up a nifty breakfast or barbecue pack that you can pick up on your arrival. There is also a shop on site selling a few essentials and lots of treats. Pick up a pint of milk, a bottle of wine, meat from the Castle Howard butcher or a tasty cake on site. The site's non-watery parts are also pretty splendid – this family-friendly park has a dedicated dog-walking area where you can admire mature trees while the pups and/or youngsters let off a little steam. It's also got handy practical features like smart loos and showers and a laundry room. Though there's plenty of scope for sticking to the estate during your time here (especially if you're visiting during one of the high-season concert weekends), active off-site jaunts around the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty come highly recommended, too – the surrounding area's full of cycle paths, bridleways and hiking trails.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Peaceful surroundings, close to castle Howard, clean showers and toilets, nice little shop, friendly welcome at reception

Disliked Electric points are a long way from some
pitches. No wifi, and poor signal for phones (but it did give us a chance for a digital detox!)

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Toilets and showers were clean and very private. Super friendly staff who came to our rescue after we booked a hard standing pitch not realising it wasn’t suitable for a tent without specific pegs! Worked hard to accommodate us as a group elsewhere and provided a member of our group with access to an amazing disabled bathroom which he couldn’t have done without.

Others guests were friendly and the site was well maintained. Would certainly visit again!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly and informative staff on arrival, clean bathrooms; quiet location; on the doorstep to visit Castle Howard with 2 for 1 entry to the gardens there

Disliked Shower cubicles were clean but basic with no area for dressing/putting belongings whilst showering; no local amenities within walking distance; pot wash area had no drainer next to the sink

From the manager: Many thanks for taking the time to review Lakeside Beverley. We're pleased that you liked our gorgeous setting and that our team gave you a friendly and informative welcome. Lakeside is a rural site located on the edge of the tiny village of Coneysthorpe. As well as our small on-site shop our visitors can access all the facilities in the courtyard at Castle Howard which is just over 1 mile away; it takes around 30 minutes to walk using the designated footpath. We have other larger villages just three miles away with amenities such as pubs and general stores and the town of Malton is 5 miles but transport is needed. Regarding the shower and washing-up facilities I will pass your comments on to the relevant teams. Thanks again.

Local attractions

Yorkshire folk are rightly proud of 'God's Own Country' – it's home to some of the finest historic houses, coast and countryside around. If you want to keep things local, head out to Kirkham Abbey (15 minutes' drive) to visit the ruins of the priory or for waterside strolls along the Derwent river. Like to be beside the seaside? Of course you do, and luckily this area has plenty of options to choose from. If you fancy venturing to Whitby's harbour and beaches, drive to Pickering (25 minutes) and hitch a ride on a steam train for a stonkingly scenic journey over the North York Moors. Bempton Cliffs Seabird Centre (an hour away) is a rather wilder beauty spot – this nature hub is home to about a quarter of a million nesting seabirds (so be sure to pack your binoculars). Art, architecture and landscaped grounds can all be rather moreish, so check out other historic houses in the area, like Nunnington Hall (20 minutes), Duncombe Park (25 minutes), Sledmere House (30 minutes) and Beningbrough Hall (40 minutes), if you fancy a change of scene on your blue-blooded escapades.
