  • Family-friendly caravan park in a rural spot just off the A64
  • A 10-minute drive from central York; park and ride close by
  • Peaceful eight-acre site with spacious serviced pitches
York, oh yes indeed – and as many times as you fancy popping in too… As the name suggests, Beechwood Caravan Park York is in a most handy spot for days out in this splendid city – it’s just off the A64 and about a 10-minute drive from the city centre (or a stress-free bus ride from the park and ride two miles away). Not that you’d guess either of those facts while staying at this peaceful rural North Yorkshire site: it’s a private and sheltered spot spread over eight acres surrounded by mature trees and hedgerows. There’s plenty of space on the pitches, all of which have electric hookups and access to a chemical disposal area and recycling facilities. Other facilities at this family-friendly touring site include a washing-up area and male, female and unisex/family bathrooms with toilets, basins and full-height showers with free hot water. (Please note the facilities are not heated) Visiting York several times is a fine idea, of course, allowing you to explore the city at your leisure rather than cramming it all in. This is, however, one of those particularly fine spots where you really can mix up a bit of city time, a bit of country time and a bit of coast time. Shake things up a bit by getting to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in about 15 minutes’ drive, the North York Moors National Park in 40 minutes and the coast at Bridlington in an hour or so.

What customers say

This is a quiet, clean, and well-maintained site with spacious, level pitches, many with water and electric hook-ups. Its excellent location offers easy access to York via park and ride or taxi, and close proximity to shopping centres. Facilities, including individual shower/toilet cubicles, are generally praised for cleanliness, though some mention they are basic and unheated. A dedicated dog walking area and children's play park are appreciated. Minor issues include road noise and occasional Wi-Fi absence.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Spacious flat pitches, clean shower and toilet facilities, very well maintained site, short walk (10-15 minutes) to the bus stop for easy access in to York city centre. Friendly hosts. Large dedicated dog exercise field. Good value.

Disliked Nothing really, I suppose the only slight dislike was that despite the road noise being hushed, we were still aware that it was fairly close by - but this does make it very accessible, and there’s not a lot you can do about a busy road these days - and importantly, it wouldn’t put us off returning!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Spacious site on the edge of York next to the ringroad. Some low level road noise. Lovely welcome. Secure site entrance barrier.
Well laid out piches with level hard standings arranged in a circle. No hedges between pitches. Water and electricity on each pitch. Grass cut regularly.
Toby Carvery within 10 minutes walk. Bus service into York although service is infrequent. Suitable for day or half day visit into the city.
Large out of town shopping centre 2 miles away.

Disliked The sanitary block is tidy and clean but of the older style. Showers good but no space heating.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Very spacious pitches, plenty of open space between pitches, good security and brilliant staff who couldn't have been more helpful !
Dog field was brilliant for my spaniels to have a run around and right next to the sheep field with a "sheep friendly ' fox knocking around too ha.. A few minutes (in a car) is the park and ride and a huge retail park with Asda and sainsburys . And plenty of major shopping chains such as m&s , boots , go outdoors, primark etc and a cinema . I think its in a brilliant location for exploring york and the local area. Within walking distance is a Toby carvery . If you dont have a car the site gives you a taxi firm with 10% off. They also offer free delivery on a takeaway service. Although the site doesn't offer wifi our phones worked perfect fpe Internet and phone signal. I really enjoyed our time here and will return .

Disliked My husband is disabled and although there was a disabled toilet and shower room there shower was tiny and there was no emergency cord.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked R

Disliked Really nice place with wide, open spaces and pitches laid out to provide plenty of room and not crowding in on each other unlike some sites.
We were only there for 1 night in early April so there was only a few units on site which was a shame.
The toilet/amenities block was exceptional and possibly one of the cleanest I’ve ever come across on a commercial site. Each cubicle was large with a shower cubicle , toilet etc al within. Well done to the owners/managers.
Although there was a club site just over the edge ( and yes we are members) I think I would stay at this site if we are up this way again.

Local attractions

Naturally you’ll want to start with York, for history-tinged days at the Jorvik Viking Centre and the minster, strolls down the Shambles, (free) engine-gazing at the National Railway Museum, cruises on the Ouse and sweet tales at York’s Chocolate Story. And then? Maybe for more excellent architecture at Castle Howard (25 minutes’ drive) or Ripon cathedral (45 minutes), or a journey back to the past with a steam railway ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (an hour)? Or perhaps turn eyes to the skies with a trip to the Yorkshire Air Museum (10 minutes)? If you’re of the opinion that no visit to the countryside is complete until you’ve brushed a pig or milked a cow, you can get such things sorted at Piglets Adventure Farm (10 minutes). Thirsk racecourse (40 minutes) is the place if you’d rather see the horses going full pelt, while Flamingo Land Resort (half an hour) should be on the list if you’d rather hurtle along rides or meet exotic beasts. Beach time? It’s around an hour’s drive to Bridlington for a classic British seaside day out – think funfairs, amusements, donkey rides and tasty portions of fish and chips.
