  • Family-friendly caravan park in a rural spot just off the A64
  • A 10-minute drive from central York; park and ride close by
  • Peaceful eight-acre site with spacious serviced pitches
York, oh yes indeed – and as many times as you fancy popping in too… As the name suggests, Beechwood Caravan Park York is in a most handy spot for days out in this splendid city – it’s just off the A64 and about a 10-minute drive from the city centre (or a stress-free bus ride from the park and ride two miles away). Not that you’d guess either of those facts while staying at this peaceful rural North Yorkshire site: it’s a private and sheltered spot spread over eight acres surrounded by mature trees and hedgerows. There’s plenty of space on the pitches, all of which have electric hookups, water hook-ups and access to a chemical disposal area. Other facilities at this family-friendly touring site include a washing-up area and male, female and unisex/family bathrooms with toilets, basins and full-height showers with free hot water. (Please note the facilities are not heated) Visiting York several times is a fine idea, of course, allowing you to explore the city at your leisure rather than cramming it all in. This is, however, one of those particularly fine spots where you really can mix up a bit of city time, a bit of country time and a bit of coast time. Shake things up a bit by getting to the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in about 15 minutes’ drive, the North York Moors National Park in 40 minutes and the coast at Bridlington in an hour or so.

Would stay again

Disliked Sorry but people coming at 11pm with a caravan, woke me up driving forward and back words trying to get the caravan on, thought they were going to drive into the awning at 1 point, and people walking over your pitch to get to theirs , I know it's not the owner fault,

Fully-serviced concrete slab caravan site

Liked We stopped for a 4 night stay at Beachwood caravan park, we was informed by text what our pitch number was the day before we arrived, we was greeted once we got there by a friendly member of staff, once we pitched up on our fully serviced pitch we started to relax, the pitches are well spaced out and level, our caravan is 8ft wide and with the awning attached we went beyond the hard standing width wise by a couple of feet so part of the awning was on the grass, the member of staff understood this and totally upstanding about it, the toilet/shower block was clean and well set out as was the pot washing area, the bins are just at the side of the same building ( I’m always a bit concerned when they don’t have separate recycling bins, but that’s down to local recycling policies not the caravan site) We don’t a dog so can’t say what that area of the site was like, a small play area is provided for children. We enjoyed our stay on the lovely peaceful site and would definitely come back.

Disliked NOTHING TO DISLIKE ( but a few suggestions) 1 getting to the site, we put the post code in and it tried to send us down a none existent road, but that was my bad for not looking at the approach information for the site. 2 when you do get on the right road the entrance is isn’t particularly clear and having another very similar sounding caravan park further along doesn’t help so maybe a better sign would help. 3 I think it was pitch number 41 but I may be wrong, it’s right at the bottom of the slope leading to the shower/ toilet block, I wouldn’t be happy if I ended up on that pitch, but it wasn’t in use when we was there so they may not use it due to it’s proximity to the shower/block.

Would def stay again

Liked The pitch size is great and with EHU and water to each pitch. The welcome on arrival was excellent and all info was given. Helpful staff. Toilet block is very clean and each room has toilet, sink and shower! Uber to York was £6 £12 return excellent.

Disliked The doors on cubicle 1&2 in women’s bathroom are too close together .. minor point.

Powered concrete slab caravan site

Liked It was ok and £9 in a taxi to York with discount. Use the taxi company that's offered as they pickup both ways in no time at all. Place was quiet but not school holidays. Basically it's a field with a road and gravel pitches around it. Does the job with no frills or attempt to make the place attractive. Toilet block clean but very basic big hut. Hardboard walls with wooden roof and painted insulation boards. Heating was not an issue as it was warm. Hate to think what's it like if it was cold as there is no heating. All washing, toilet and showers are in together over 4 rooms in gents. Hate to think if it was busy and you need just the toilet and fussy joe is in there 10 mins on the pan, 10 mins shave, 10 mins in the shower. Long time blocking a toilet. Anyways toilet block is not luxury but basic and ok because place was empty bar 7 campers.

Disliked Can't complain as it was just ok did what we needed at the time. Pleasant reception on arrival. Maybe need to rethink toilets buy some plants to cheer the place up and fix the flickering lights on the power posts that's been complained about before.

From the manager: Hi Craig, thanks for the review, sorry to see that you won't be visiting us again

Local attractions

Naturally you’ll want to start with York, for history-tinged days at the Jorvik Viking Centre and the minster, strolls down the Shambles, (free) engine-gazing at the National Railway Museum, cruises on the Ouse and sweet tales at York’s Chocolate Story. And then? Maybe for more excellent architecture at Castle Howard (25 minutes’ drive) or Ripon cathedral (45 minutes), or a journey back to the past with a steam railway ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (an hour)? Or perhaps turn eyes to the skies with a trip to the Yorkshire Air Museum (10 minutes)? If you’re of the opinion that no visit to the countryside is complete until you’ve brushed a pig or milked a cow, you can get such things sorted at Piglets Adventure Farm (10 minutes). Thirsk racecourse (40 minutes) is the place if you’d rather see the horses going full pelt, while Flamingo Land Resort (half an hour) should be on the list if you’d rather hurtle along rides or meet exotic beasts. Beach time? It’s around an hour’s drive to Bridlington for a classic British seaside day out – think funfairs, amusements, donkey rides and tasty portions of fish and chips.
