  • Well-maintained, peaceful Yorkshire park 10 minutes’ drive from Whitby
  • Robin Hood’s Bay five minutes’ drive and Scarborough half an hour
  • Restaurant and bar on site, plus a play area and dedicated dog park
Set in 10 acres of stunning North Yorkshire moors and countryside, York House Caravan Park is just 10 minutes’ drive away from Whitby – not that you’ll need much reminding, as the Gothic abbey is visible from parts of the site. This spacious site in the small village of Hawsker appeals to both couples and families – and it must be doing something right, as guests often come back year after year. There are two play areas for kids, and also plenty of opportunities for gentle strolls and relaxing in the peaceful surroundings. It’s a canine-friendly place too, with a dedicated dog-walking field. From the site, there’s easy access to the Cinder Track, a 21-mile path along the disused railway from Whitby to Scarborough. Leaving the car behind on your adventures? There's a good bus service from Hawsker to Scarborough in one direction and Middlesbrough in the other. On-site facilities include a well-maintained shower block, a washing-up and laundry room, and – saving the best news for last – a bar and restaurant for those days when you just don’t feel like catering for yourselves (note that during low season, they are only open from Thursday to Sunday). There’s also a local pub five minutes’ walk away, which serves tasty home-cooked food and a good selection of drinks.

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely helpful staff and great facilities. The site is in a perfect spot for transport to Whitby or Scarborough and anything in between plus a decent pub just across the road from the site. Secure and quiet would recommend to anyone.

Disliked Nothing really as all of the sensible rules are observed by most guests which is key to a well maintained site. Our only minor annoyance and not the fault of the management, our visit just before leaving to the waste facility, we are in a 7mtr motor home and some bright spark decided to park their car right in the keep clear area making access for us and for those getting past difficult, why are some people so inconsiderate??

Electric optional gravel and hardstanding motorhome pitch

Liked Good location for Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay. It has a great big dog walking field. Toilet and shower facilities were fine. Although there was a bar that had limited opening we liked the Hare and Hounds pub which was a 5 minute walk in Hawsker village. However, if you want to eat at the pub it's popular (food looked good) so you need to book as we found out to our detriment. The bus stops were also close (5 minute walk from site entrance) and there is a good frequent service to Whitby (Middlesbro bus) or Robin Hoods Bay (Scarboro bus).

Disliked The fact that you needed to pay for electric on a pre-paid card. I think this is a bit of a cheek as you can't reclaim what you don't use. Why can't the price of electric be built into the pitch price. We purchased a £5 card for 3 days. When we tried to apply the card the meter said the card was invalid. However, the previous occupants had left £4.92 in credit anyway so we used that and there was still a £1 in credit when we left.
Toilet and showers were busy at the weekend when the site was busy.

Liked The booking process, their payment process, the site is beautifully arranged and maintained. Their weekend cooked breakfasts are great value and all their personnel were lovely to deal with. They listen closely before they speak & that's quite rare?

Local attractions

York House Caravan Park is nicely located on the eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It's a short drive from here to Robin Hood’s Bay (five minutes’ drive), where ghost walks tell the story of times gone by. For a small taste of the village's smugglers' history, head to the museum. For hikers, there are fine choices around such as the 109-mile Cleveland Way (five minutes) through the North York Moors, and the Coast to Coast Path (five minutes) ending at Robin Hood’s Bay. Those who prefer to travel at higher speeds can take the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from the station in Whitby (10 minutes) – after spending some time exploring the famed abbey, of course. Goathland (20 minutes) is a popular destination – it's the home of the TV series 'Heartbeat' and starred in the Harry Potter films too. There are so, so, so many pretty spots along the coast that you might find it hard to choose where to spend your time. However, Ravenscar (20 minutes), a pretty coastal village with splendid cliffs, and the more ‘happening’ Scarborough (half an hour) are some very nice picks.
