  • Rural site in the Yorkshire Wolds with easy access to walks
  • A 40-minute drive from Bempton Cliffs and York city centre
  • Spacious, dog-friendly and fully licensed coffee barn
Surrounded by the spectacular landscape of the Yorkshire Wolds, with far-reaching views over open countryside, Field House is a peaceful farm site a 15-minute drive from the East Yorkshire market town of Driffield. Nature is all around here, with owl boxes in the high trees and a wooded area where you’re sure to spot (or at least hear) a variety of birds. Ponies, donkeys and cattle graze the surrounding paddocks, and colourful wildflowers can be seen in season too. On site, guests have access to eco-friendly compostable toilets and hot-water showers (including a roofless one where you can look up at the tree canopy during your ablutions). Other amenities include free USB solar charging and paid EV charging. Please remember to bring a torch, since there are no lights in or around the amenities. Take a walk on the vast network of public footpaths (including a 3.5-mile route to the local fish and chip shop), or hop on your bike and set off on the coast-to-coast route (Way of the Roses), which is directly accessible from the farm gates. Depending on what’s in season, some local produce is sold on site, including fresh eggs straight from the resident happy hens. There's a spacious, dog-friendly coffee barn on site with views over the Yorkshire Wolds, which serves a good selection of homemade food and has a licensed bar. Open every day (during the evenings on Friday and Saturday), it also has table tennis and sells locally made gifts. For more supplies, it's about a quarter of an hour’s drive to Sledmere House and Gardens, the site’s nearest stately home, with a well-stocked farm shop. Alternatively, you can head into Driffield – and not just for provisions, but also pub trips, meals out or waterside strolls along the Driffield Navigation.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Staff and people on the camp site were so friendly and lovely. Our tent broke and people on site helped us and we was going to leave and go home but the manager helped us massively and were so grateful (we spent the night in the on site teepee tent free of charge) ❤️

Excellent site and clean toilet/shower facilities. And the coffee barn was lovely with great options to choose from - drinks, food etc. ❤️

Disliked The play area wasnt the best.
Was great for children to explore as was in a wooded area etc but unfortunately my son hurt himself while playing in there on the equipment provided...
Could be made a little safer.

but overall we had a great time!

Great place to stay, beautiful views, feels like wild camping +

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked The chill no frills vibe with beautiful views.
The other lovely campers and their children enjoying themselves.
Location for beautiful walks.
Horses next door.
You have the option of using the café although we don't and lovely play area for children which we didn't use either.

Disliked The strong urine smell at the toilets, as I am sensitive to smell. Probably due to the heat, as hadn't noticed it when we stayed last autumn.

Will definitely go back.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Small, tidy campsite with lovely clean amenities.
Myself and my family booked a last minute pitch here for our first camping trip and couldn't fault it. Our children (3&5) loved the play area with the zip line and tyre swing. They also loved collecting wood from the wood store for our night time campfire. The shower underneath the tree canopy is exceptional too, we already can't wait to return!

Non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked Bar area was large and spacious.

Disliked Despite this being a Friday evening and being also very busy, the bar closed before 6m, leaving many families short of entertainment.
The toilet facilities were compost type, which although clean, did not appeal to all, particularly young children.
The only alternative was in the bar .
The showers, which although worked fine, were not very comfortable to use, with no disabled facilities (ie, seating etc). There were no cubicles for private washing for those who did not wish to use the shower.
This site was definitely not value for the price paid, being in effect just an open field and not many steps away from a wild camping experience.
Also there was no reception, as such and this gave the impression that it was an unmanaged site.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. I’m sorry our description of a rural tranquil site wasn’t made clear enough prior to booking. The coffee barn, although fully licensed is open daily for home cooked food and drink. Occasionally, and during school holidays we open late on a Friday and Saturday evening. As a small rural family business it is not sustainable for us to keep our coffee shop open late every weekend. We also choose to keep the site peaceful and promote a back to nature experience and appreciate this may not have suited you.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Eco compost toilets, showers under the canopy of trees, nature play area in the woods, coffee barn, EV charger, well thought campsite

Disliked Maybe add the new footpath to farm field on the OS map by the showers. We came back from a long walk and went all around the farm to find out we could have gone back directly to the farm!
And a USB-C lead to the phone charging station would be a nice addition

I'll be going again

Local attractions

Designed by Queen Elizabeth I’s master mason, Burton Agnes Hall (25 minutes’ drive) is a great example of late 16th-century Tudor architecture. Its rooms house collections of decorative arts and paintings, while outdoor spaces include a walled garden with a yew maze and dense woodland with an adventure course for kids. Take a stroll around York city centre (40 minutes), taking in the Shambles and other cobbled streets lined with half-timbered buildings, before heading to the medieval York Minster, with its splendid stained-glass windows and rooftop walk. The Jorvik Viking Centre explores the city’s Viking heritage. For a day at the beach, Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast (40 minutes) has open beaches and sheltered coves, plus miles of chalk cliffs inhabited by guillemots and puffins (RSPB Bempton Cliffs). A lovely walk takes you up to the 17th-century Old Flamborough Lighthouse and on to the Flamborough Sea Arch, jutting out into the sea.
