Leafy site alongside a private broad

  • Peaceful Norfolk glampsite with exclusive access to a private broad
  • Wroxham and Hoveton 10 minutes’ drive; BeWILDerwood Norfolk 15 minutes
  • Well-equipped communal kitchen, woodfired sauna and wild swimming
A private corner of the Norfolk Broads tucked well away from the main river system, Wonderwild sits on the edge of a private broad – to which guests have exclusive access – in the grounds of the peaceful and verdant Woodbastwick Estate. If you’re looking to switch off and slow down, this could be the very place for you. This is a place where easy access to nature is combined with thoughtful design features to make your stay easy and comfortable; spacious pre-erected tents await with vintage styling, cosy linens and comfy furniture. Each one has its own outdoor seating and firepit with a hanging grill, so you can cook by the fire, relax under the star-filled Norfolk night sky, wake up to bird song and simply hang out together. You can also make use of the communal kitchen, where facilities include gas hobs, communal fridges and plenty of cooking utensils. There’s also a chilling zone with sofas, a table and chairs, as well as a shower block with reliable hot water. The friendly reception team is on hand to help out wherever they can. Around the site you can indulge in saunas with a broadside view, wild swimming from the private dining platform and paddleboarding across the water – all undisturbed by the noise of motor cruisers. That sounds a lot like your next Norfolk break, right?

Local attractions

In the unlikely event that you ever tire of having your very own broad to swim in, you can head to Wroxham and Hoveton (10 minutes’ drive), the bustling ’capitals’ of the Norfolk Broads. In these two conjoined villages, you can eat and drink in restaurants and pubs, hire day cruisers for jaunts down the River Bure and see Norfolk from dry land aboard the Bure Valley Railway. Anything you might feasibly need groceries-wise can be sourced at the renowned Roys of Wroxham, possibly the world’s largest village store. Wroxham Barns (15 minutes) makes a great day out for families. It’s home to Penney’s Flower and Craft Centre with painting, crochet and willow-weaving workshops (book in advance), a petting farm and a children’s funfair. If there’s rain around, simply detour to Wroxham Miniature Worlds (20 minutes), with its beguiling mix of flight simulators, model railways and retro games. Sun back out again? Time for a day of zipwires and treetop rope courses at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (15 minutes). If you have young kids in tow, they’ll surely jump at the chance to meet meerkats and follow the dinosaur trail at Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (half an hour).
