Walnut Tree Meadow Camping: Space for large tents

General

  • Dog-friendly farm site a mile from the centre of Wymondham
  • A 20-minute drive from Norwich; half an hour from the Norfolk Broads
  • Café, small farm shop, dog groomer, dog pool and alpaca walks on site

Walnut Tree Meadow Camping is a rural Norfolk site around five minutes’ drive from the centre of Wymondham and 20 minutes from Norwich (with easy access via the nearby A11).

There’s much to appreciate at this relaxed getaway spot, especially for folk travelling with a dog. As it’s in the grounds of a canine business, the facilities for canines on hols are particularly fine: book your four-legged pal in for a spot of pampering with the resident groomer or massage clinic, take them for a dip in the dog swimming pool or join one of the numerous classes available (dog first aid, agility sessions and canine massage are often among the offerings). For walkies, you can either book a session on the two-acre fully-fenced dog walking meadow or hit the local footpaths for a country stroll.

Bringing a dog isn’t compulsory, and there are plenty of other creatures to get to know on site: take an alpaca for a walk, make friends with pygmy goats and feed chickens (or lambs if you’re here at the right time…) Once you’ve met the whole gang, sit back and get set for one of the stunning sunsets that often dazzle guests here.

Facilities on site include a café (dog-friendly, of course), a hot water washing-up area and a fridge-freezer. Picnic benches, charcoal barbecue and firepits are available (first come, first served), and you can buy charcoal and firewood on site. Pitches have no boundaries, so lay claim to as much space as you wish; wherever you pick, you’ll have access to a large hot shower and indoor toilet facilities. Free-range eggs and local honey are sold in the café for a tasty breakfast.

Please note

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

I love the huge field at Walnut tree because it gives such a sense of space. The meadow is surrounded on one side by a field of goats and sheep, on another by trees, then there is the farmhouse and cafe and finally the car park. Beyond that are acres and acres of fields. Importantly, despite the size of the campsite, there are only six pitches which ensures privacy, peace and an uninterrupted view of the beautiful countryside. The owners are wonderful people who are interested in a great deal of things: chiefly dogs, which is great for me because I bring my two and we are all made to feel very welcome. Kathryn and David run the whole place, and this includes walks with alpacas, home baked cakes, a dog agility course and a doggy swimming pool! I love it there and have just planned my fifth visit.

    Everything.
There is nothing we disliked about the site. We're planning on going back in a couple of months.
Lovely owners and very helpful. They even opened the cafe early for me to collect an afternoon tea at 7am.
£3 a bag for fire wood and free use of the fire pits, bbq's and also heat gloves.
Pitch was level and general area very tidy.
We had a pitch that backed onto the goats and sheep.
Facilities for dogs are great too. Nice enclosed paddock for off lead fun and a dog wash too.
Showers, toilet and washing up area all clean. They even provide washing up liquid which we had forgotten to pack.
Supermarkets are less than 10 minute drive and very tasty local pizza and kebab. Delivered to site with no issues.
We didn't want to leave but look forward to returning in September.

Very friendly, clean toilet area, grounds were very well kept despite the rain. Very quiet with the odd car in the background. Lots of space for your pitch which made us feel relaxed as this was our first time camping with our puppy.

It's great for dogs with regards to their facilities & needs. Lots of space and wildlife to get used to.

BBQ & fire pits were great, easy to access and plenty for everyone.

    Disliked:

The shower, it was lukewarm at best which is a massive shame! Despite using it in the morning and evening, and pressing the button several times to see if it would get hotter, it wasn't the case!

If they fix the problem, we'd be happy to stay.
