General

  • Dog-friendly farm site a mile from the centre of Wymondham
  • A 20-minute drive from Norwich; half an hour from the Norfolk Broads
  • On-site café; dog groomer, dog swimming pool, agility and hydrotherapy

Take an alpaca for a walk, make friends with pygmy goats and feed chickens (or lambs if you’re here at the right time)… once you’ve met the whole gang at Walnut Tree Meadow Camping, it’s time to sit back and get set for one of the stunning sunsets that often dazzle guests. There’s much to appreciate at this relaxed getaway spot, especially for folk travelling with a dog…

This rural Norfolk site is around five minutes’ drive from the centre of Wymondham and 20 minutes from Norwich (with easy access via the nearby A11). As it’s in the grounds of a canine business, the facilities for canines on hols are particularly fine: book your four-legged pal in for a spot of pampering with the resident groomer or massage clinic, take them for a dip in the dog swimming pool or join one of the numerous classes available (dog first aid, agility sessions and canine massage are often among the offerings).

Facilities on site include a café (dog-friendly, of course), and a hot water washing-up area. Picnic benches, charcoal barbecue and firepits are available (first come, first served), and you can buy charcoal on site. Pitches have no boundaries, so lay claim to as much space as you wish; wherever you pick, you’ll have access to hot showers and toilet facilities (both on the site and in the café).

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

There is no reception on-site: on arrival please contact the number provided on your booking confirmation.

Single-sex bookings of 6 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Peaceful meadow with lots of space. Cafe on site. Good dog walks. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

No hot water or sink to wash on camping meadow, only toilet cubicle with cold water. No mirror or hand drying facility in toilet. It seems Washing up sink located behind the cafe for dishes is also used for cleaning teeth etc. There is a single shower cubicle also behind the cafe.

If you like to do your own thing, without much fuss and you have a dog, this is a site for you. We booked the dog field a couple of times to play with our dog who is quite reactive. There was a large open field for dogs who can mix and good farm walks. Toilets on field clean, shower in a barn, but lovely hot water. Cafe was a bonus.
    Wiil definatley stay again.

    Disliked:

Second shower was being built whilst we were there.

Shower. Didn't like the fixed head and the erratic spray. Only stayed one night and decided to shower at our next campsite. My partner braved the shower and had to open the outer door in order to get dried as there was a build up of steam.
Floodlight on the main building stayed on all night and spoilt our view of a clear starry sky.

The site on a whole was lovely. Welcoming staff in the cafe upon arrival, the entire site was well maintained, beautiful surrounding area with the added bonus of seeing goats, sheep, alpacas, and chickens onsite!
Great coffee too which is always a bonus for us avid coffee drinkers!
    Facilities were clean and tidy.
Hopefully next time we go the shower on the camping field will be up and running although going to the shower behind the cafe wasn't a major hardship at all.

Quiet location. Excellent for dog owners as there are enclosed dedicated dog fields. Basic facilities but very clean. Lovely cafe on site and worth a visit for a piece of afternoon cake. (We loved the coffee and Walnut cake). Local shops a short distance away with a Waitrose just down the road. Nice farm walks all well signposted. A great place to stay.

A lovely campsite, next to the cafe and dog centre. Definitely a place for people with dogs or who like dogs. Very quiet when we visited. My son enjoyed the football nets. Toilets were lovely and clean. Only stayed 1 night so didnt use the shower. Wouldn't definitely visit again.

Great facilities for your dogs, including fridge, dog washing facilities, fantastic walks, dip enclosed paddocks for socialising and small farm animals to meet. You can also pre book dip and dive or agility paddock. For us humans, great toilets and showers and a first rate cafe on site. Best to pre order the breakfasts ready for return from your dog walks. We took bicycles so could get takeaways back to the campsite whilst still really hot.

In the evenings we could sit out side the cafe and use the Wi-Fi, did not reach the campsite but the cafe is 50 meters from our pitch.

Local attractions

Flick through the history books… the two towers of the Benedictine Wymondham Abbey (five minutes' drive) aren’t hard to spot from afar – and there’s fab architecture inside too. For other trips back to times past, you could travel along the Mid Norfolk Railway (five minutes) or nosy around Norwich (20 minutes) to look at the cathedral, castle, market and Bridewell Museum.

For activities that will take you to the trees, Thetford Forest Park (35 minutes) is all about those peaceful forest walks and picnics by the river – or, for those more adventurous types, Go Ape Thetford (40 minutes) will give you a birds’ eye view of the forest from the obstacle course and zipwires in the treetops.

Whether you’re a big kid or you’ve got ones of your own, there are plenty more family-friendly activities around these parts. Perhaps a zoo day at Banham Zoo (25 minutes) or catching a show at the Norfolk Showground (15 minutes)? Boating on the Norfolk Broads (half an hour) or daring to go on the dinosaur-themed rides at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure (25 minutes)?
