  • Peaceful family-friendly site on the Norfolk coast
  • A 15-minute walk from the nearest beach; a 15-minute drive from Cromer
  • Walking distance from pubs and food shops
A big ‘yes please’ to a break by the sea? Then root down at Green Gables Camping Ground. This peaceful site in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty has views over the surrounding countryside. A 15-minute walk away from the nearest beach and 15 minutes' drive away from Cromer, you’ll also be well situated for activities that revolve around the sand and sea. Plus, with four acres of grasslands (and rather splendid rural views), there’s plenty of space for everyone to unwind. It’s likely you’re already heading to the coast with the idea of whiling your day away on the sand and pottering (or speeding your way) around the coastal footpaths. If so, this site is a 15-minute walk away from the sheltered Trimingham beach… perhaps take a surfboard for the waves or set your sights on the good fishing spots. Very handily, the beach joins up with the coastal path, and there’s a small food shop 20 minutes’ walk away along this route, well-positioned for filling your pockets with some energy-boosting snacks before you set off. Catch a fish and chip shop and a couple of pubs on the way to Mundesley beach too (40 minutes’ walk in the same direction). If you’re feeling a little sandy after your adventures, there’s an amenities block on site that has showers and toilets. Other on-site facilities include a washing-up area for you to take care of your dirty dishes or grab some drinking water.

What customers say

This campsite offers a peaceful, secluded experience with a fantastic location close to the Norfolk Coast Path and beaches. Many reviewers praise the friendly owners and the value for money, describing it as basic but enjoyable, with fire pits available. While the site's entrance and facilities are noted as basic, dated, and in need of tidying by some, others found them clean and functional, ideal for a back-to-basics camping trip. Dogs and campfires are permitted.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked We had read reviews on various sites so we were no expecting much however this was worse than that. No reception or person on arrival, looks like a junkyard when you drive in (we had read this on other reviews but not how bad it was.). We parked up and thought at least if the facilities are ok, only need a loo and a shower, we can stay. We looked and after finally finding them and we didn't stay. We lost our money, we understand that but as hard core campers who have travelled most of Europe and the UK, we would not recommend one feature of this site unless you want the feeling of totally wild camping However to use it as a base for a few nights, not for us.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely secuded campsite. Peaceful, friendly and ideal for walking.

Disliked Only one thing I would say is on first impressions it's a bit tired looking. Lots of scrap and old caravans etc on the drive to the camping field , it didn't bother us but could put some people off.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Good size pitches on level field, toilet blocks ok if a little dated.

Nice and quiet

Owner came and checked later in day that all was ok so was a nice touch.

Disliked Entrance resembles a junk yard and I had to check twice I was at the right place. No one around when I arrived and had to phone to be told where the top field was and where the shower block was as tucked away.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Quiet campsite with fires and dogs allowed. Well priced, friendly staff and clean toilets.

Disliked Washing up facilities could do with some drying racks and showers need a bit of work, but they're functional and hot.

Local attractions

Beach days on the brain? No worries – sandy shores are on the horizon, whether it’s Mundesley beach's (five minutes’ drive) safe swimming waters, beach huts and watersports or Cromer’s beach and traditional pier (15 minutes), a popular crabbing spot for novices and pros, by the way. Sea Palling Beach (35 minutes) is another watersports haven with plenty of swims and sandy dunes in store. It's likely you’ve already met the site’s alpacas, but if it’s monkeys, pumas and peccaries you’d like to see next, Amazona Zoo (15 minutes) has a cluster of South American animals. You’re sure to spot some creepy crawlies and feathered animals around the woodland and parkland walks, the lake and walled garden at Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate (15 minutes) too. If you’ve kids to keep occupied, they might enjoy clambering across the treehouse adventure park at BeWILDerwood Norfolk (half an hour) or gliding across the boating lake at North Lodge Park (10 minutes). Heard of Henry Blogg, a famous lifeboat crew member who performed some fearsome rescues? The RNLI Henry Blogg Museum (15 minutes) remembers his life and some of his craziest rescues.
