Did someone say beach? Escape to Eastern Beach Caravan Park and it’s highly probable that someone did indeed say it… many, many times in fact. And with good reason – settings don’t come much more beachy than this place, which has both stunning views over the sands and direct access so guests can canter out onto Caister-on-Sea beach in a mere a minute or so (no steps to tackle, no road to cross, no dunes to tackle – how’s that for easy access?) In a splendid snippet of news for your mutts, this stretch of the Norfolk coastline is dog-friendly all year round, allowing them to join you for fresh air, splashing and sandy scrambles whenever they wish. More seaside action can be had on a jaunt to Great Yarmouth, 10 minutes’ drive away, and there are watery outings inland too, as this peaceful park backs on to the Norfolk Broads. Walks, wildlife spotting, boat trips, bike rides – all are a cinch to find in the surrounds, and no doubt all will leave you with something of an appetite. Each caravan has a fully-equipped kitchen and there’s a small shop on site for supplies (plus a supermarket 10 minutes’ trot away). Prefer to have someone else sort out your supper? Hot meals, fresh pizzas, snacks and drinks are all on hand at the café and clubhouse. Entertainment on site includes Saturday night bingo, along with live music on summer evenings. At other times, it’s off to the games room, amusement arcade or playground for active times, or the board game library and book swap for quieter moments.

Local attractions

This is a nifty location for days in the Norfolk Broads, however you wish to wander: hiring a boat (large or small, with captain or being in charge of your own rudder) is the classic option, but it’s also worth thinking about bringing bikes to pedal along the network of quiet, flat cycle paths, or joining small birdwatching group tours. Get warmed up for your Broads-based days with watersports activities including rafting, paddleboarding and kayaking at Fritton Lake Outdoor Centre (25 minutes’ drive), or gawp at sea-dwelling creatures at SEA Life in Great Yarmouth (10 minutes). There’s plenty to please at the resort’s Pleasure Beach, including rides and shows for all ages. Planning to stay away from the water for a little while? Take the five-minute drive to Caister Castle to admire its classic car collection, encounter exotic beasts at Thrigby Hall Wildlife Gardens (10 minutes’ drive) or head to Wroxham Barns (half an hour) for a mini farm, funfair and crafty shops.
