  • Spacious and well-established family-run Norfolk site in Denver
  • Thetford Forest and Sandringham Estate within a half-hour drive
  • Five fishing lakes on site; pub and golf course a short walk away
Down to Denver for the weekend? No, not that one – this is a little Norfolk village that’s home to a windmill, a golf course and a pub. It’s also home to Lakeside Caravan Park and Fisheries, a friendly family-run business that’s been welcoming guests to this lovely location for over 35 years. It’s a peaceful spot with serviced pitches (with electric and water connections) and plenty of space to put up your awning or gazebo and get your barbecue out. All sorts of guests are welcome to stay here, including groups, families and those travelling with their dogs. As you’ll no doubt have noted from the name, the main draw here is the five fishing lakes, stocked with carp, tench, bream, roach and other species and available to guests for an extra charge. And even when you’re not fishing the lakes make a lovely backdrop to your stay, with the surrounding trees full of wildlife too. Other facilities have been nicely thought out here, too: you’ll have access to a chemical disposal point, a coin-operated launderette and wifi, as well as modern bathrooms with accessible facilities. There’s a play area for the kids and a handy shop selling fishing bait and tackle along with various essentials. Other supplies can be picked up in Downham Market, five minutes’ drive away. Need a break from fishing (or not into it at all)? There are plenty of other activity options around, including animal parks, garden strolls, forest walks and trips to Cambridge or the Broads National Park.

What customers say

This well-maintained campsite is praised for its clean facilities, spacious pitches, and tranquil atmosphere, particularly by anglers who enjoy the fishing lakes. Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful, with particular commendations for Kate. While most visitors highlight the positive aspects, a few noted that showers require £1 coins, some areas lack recycling bins, and Wi-Fi can be unreliable. One review mentioned an issue with pitch proximity during busy periods, and another reported unclean facilities, though this is not a common complaint.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked The grounds were lovely, and the lakes stunning. Our pitch was really nice as we set up under a lovely big willow tree.

Disliked The facilities are really poor and they were grubby and unclean - to the point you didn't want to go over and use them. They desperately need to be upgraded but even a deep clean would improve them. The smell was so bad in the toilets (urine) that you smelt of it on your clothes when you returned to your pitch. The whole experience of the toilets and showers was just grim.

There was also a very discrimitive sign up in the toilets on the notice board saying - our pitch prices are for 1 family only (Mother, Father and their children". It's 2026, there are many different types of families these days.

It's such a shame as this could be a really lovely site but the facilities let it down massively.

Electric optional grass pitch

Liked Ground was very flat, toilets were clean.

Disliked Big party in a field somewhere close, kept going till 6am... Also generally there is one field for tents (away in the corner), and it's quite noisy generally till way past 11pm, quite a bit of swearing too... and lots of ants... lady said I should write a review so the right sort of people visit...

Advertises showers, tho needed a £1 coin to operate, was given £1 at check-in giving me 5mins.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. Unfortunately there was a music festival in the area the days you were staying with us which we were not aware of and was out of our control. We are surrounded by fields and noise does travel. In your message the following day regarding the noise you said that the whole purpose of your camping trip was to sleep. The majority of other campers on your field came to have fun and mix with others. Noise levels on the site are monitored but if you don't tell us at the time you are not giving us the chance to put it right. I would like to say that we had no other complaints of noise that weekend and we were practically full. I advised that you put a review on as we have nothing to hide and feel that any review negative or positive is good for people to see

Liked Friendly owner.
Clean showers £1 coin operated. But had no issues with this.
The food trucks were amazing.

Disliked I don’t think there was anything. I was not sure about paying for showers and electric. But I only used £2 worth of electric in a weekend. And they give you back anything you don’t use on card.

Liked Lovely location in a village just outside of Downham Market. 10 minute cycle ride to the main town which is a delightful old market town.

Pitches well maintained with lots of space in-between them.

Had food vans and a mobile bar come to the site which were great.

The Windmill opposite has a lovely little bar - we enjoyed visiting there, and another lovely riverside pub serving food just 5 minute cycle down the road.

Staff were super friendly and very helpful.

Facilities were clean and well maintained.

The site was generally quiet and relaxed.

Disliked Had to pay for the use of the showers - this wasn't communicated in advance, so we had no £1 coins.

Liked First time visiting this place and very impressed with the whole experience.

The kind welcoming staff, the pitch location, the whole fishing experience, the shower/toilet blocks (clean and good showers), even the other campers were 10/10.

The food/drink event they held on the Saturday evening was really good & food was amazing.

The quietness in the evening was great and so tranquil especially when we were stargazing on the Friday evening.

We were very happy with our stay and due to the great experience and the good amount of fish my family caught……..we will definitely be back.

Phone signal was non existent but that meant my children actually spoke to each other 😂

Disliked Nothing to dislike!
A great campsite!

Local attractions

It’s not often that you’ll stay somewhere with a windmill just down the road, so surely you’ll have to start with the five-minute walk over there. Denver Windmill stopped working in 1941 but it’s still a lovely sight to see. The village golf club is also five minutes away on foot – and the pub about 10 minutes. If it’s rural pursuits you’re after, how about meeting the farm animals at Church Farm - Stow Bardolph (10 minutes’ drive) or their more exotic cousins at Watatunga Wildlife Reserve (15 minutes)? You could also stroll around Stow Hall Gardens (five minutes), explore the grand Sandringham Estate (half an hour) or take a walk along the woodland trails at Thetford Forest (25 minutes). Taking a boat through The Broads National Park (an hour) is another lovely option for a rural day out. Meanwhile, if you’re ready for a bit of urban life, turn your attention to the cathedral city of Ely (25 minutes), the historic town of King’s Lynn (25 minutes) or the colleges of Cambridge (an hour).
