  • Peaceful site in the Wensum Valley, south facing with excellent views
  • Easily explore the county from a convenient mid-Norfolk setting
  • Plenty of fishing, walks and cycle paths locally
If you’re in real and urgent need of a peaceful getaway, then a stay at Bylaugh Country Park should do the job. It might be close to civilisation – the town of Dereham is within 15 minutes’ drive and Norwich is half an hour away – but the quiet and secluded site in the Norfolk countryside should still give you all the escape you need. This part of Norfolk is paradise for walkers and cyclists, as it's well placed for exploring the county. You can join Marriott’s Way footpath, cycle path and bridleway about 10 minutes from Bylaugh Country Park, or follow its entire length by starting in Aylsham, less than half an hour away. The red route of Norwich’s Pedalways cycle path network is also within easy reach. When you’re feeling peckish, head to one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site or fire up the barbecue for a home-cooked meal; pick up supplies from the small on-site shop or from the village of North Elmham, a 10-minute drive away. Once you’ve satisfied your appetite, relax in the peace and quiet, looking out over the Wensum Valley and the quiet Norfolk countryside.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: The area , The grounds and the Toilets where super clean

Disliked: Friends getting moaned at for visiting even though they where only there for 2 hours, They left at 10.30 pm and the gates where locked , They where told they should of told reception that they where visiting but this has no bearing on the gated being locked at 10.30 when we where told they are locked at 11pm

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review Firstly we have no problem at all with welcoming visitors on to site all must report to reception to sign in as all signs and policies state What you have failed to mention that your friends were actually booked in to stay with us as you told me yourself when you booked in They could not be bothered to ring / email or cancel their booking online Drove straight past reception( also signs that state report to reception) and did not bother to come in and sign in or again let us know they were not camping with us. Please refer to the pitch up policies in the booking terms and conditions , that states VISITORS must be left the premises by 10.30 pm and again VISITORS must register at reception on arrival Had they bothered to come to reception and sign in or read the terms when they booked they would have known this. We have these policies in place for a reason ! .

Will definitely come back and highly recommended.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: It's our second visit to what is a brilliant camp. The owners are loverly, friendly and helpful. The facilities are excellent, always clean and plenty of hot water. The location is beautiful, with a lovely view across the fields to Swanton Morley church, and its quiet and peaceful. Brilliant to use as a base to visit anywhere in Norfolk, as it us so central and well connected by road. Chippy at North Elham (Becks) is also a thumbs up! Contrary to other comments got good 4G (Tesco).

Disliked: Nothing.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Everything! The pitches are flat and freshly mown. The site is sectioned off by beautiful small trees. There are water filling facilities dotted around the site. The shop has everything you might have forgotten including some things we can’t get in our local superstore! There is a well kept communal seating area with benches outside and in a marquee. The toilets and showers were immaculately clean with a small selection of sanitary products if you were caught out. The showers stay hot and the water runs away from your dressing area. There was a small stool provided within the showers for dressing and enough hooks to hang everything up! The dish washing area was also spotless with the option to use communal fridges, freezers and laundry facilities. There are some lovely country dog walk options with paths through fields and woodland. Our phone signal was a bit sketchy but the WiFi was sufficient to allow us to stream the football (the owners offered to put it on the big TV if we couldn’t)….And best of all they have some guineafowl and 3 eagles on site!!

Disliked: Nothing!

Fully-serviced grass pitch

Liked: Truly one of the prettiest, well laid out sites we have visited. The hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming and the facilities top notch. I usually shower in the van but the showers were so great I used them a few times during our visit. There’s a little marquee and bar for communal use and we were treated to a country singer one evening.

Disliked: Having to leave! If pushed I’d say lack of WiFi, 4G or even phone signal!

Local attractions

Angling fans will be well served with a stay at Bylaugh Country Park – the Wensum river is nearby, and several carp lakes, including Swanton Morley, Billingford and Lenwade, are ripe for fishing within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. If a beach break is more your bag, it's a 40-minute drive to the northern coast of Norfolk, where you can explore the Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, walk the Norfolk Coast Path and visit the scenic seaside towns that line it. Head back in time with a trip on the steam trains at Mid-Norfolk Railway and Bure Valley Railway, both within 30 minutes of the site, or by visiting the stately homes of Blickling Estate, Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Sandringham, all within 40 minutes of Bylaugh. There’s plenty close at hand for entertaining the kids too: they can meet the wildlife at Pensthorpe Natural Park, run wild at BeWILDerwood or get their own taste of history at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure. If they’re up for a slightly longer jaunt in the car, you can all get your adrenaline pumping on the rides at Pleasurewood Hills theme park.
