Main pitches

General

  • Peaceful site in the Wensum valley, south facing with excellent views
  • Easily explore the county from a convenient mid-Norfolk setting
  • Plenty of fishing, walks and cycle paths locally

If you’re in real and urgent need of a peaceful getaway, then Bylaugh Country Park should do the job. It might be close to civilisation – the town of Dereham is within 15 minutes’ drive and Norwich is half an hour away – but the quiet and secluded site in the Norfolk countryside should still give you all the escape you need.

This part of Norfolk is paradise for walkers and cyclists, well placed for exploring the county. You can join Marriott’s Way footpath, cycle path and bridleway about 10 minutes from Bylaugh Country Park, or follow its entire length by starting in Aylsham, less than half an hour away – the red route of Norwich’s Pedalways cycle path network is also within easy reach.

When you’re feeling peckish, head to one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of the site or fire up the barbecue for a home-cooked meal – pick up supplies from the small on-site shop or from the village of North Elmham a 10-minute drive away.

Once you’ve satisfied your appetite, relax in the peace and quiet, looking out over the Wensum valley and the quiet Norfolk countryside.

The owners of the site were extremely accomodating. They were friendly and helpful and their small but extensive stock of provisions was very useful and not over priced. The shower and toilet block was always immaculate. The site was well placed for visiting both inland and coastal attractions. Our stay was during the first week of September and very quiet - there were others on the level site in tents, motor homes and caravans but we were well spaced as it is quite a large site.
We have a dog and there were places from the site to walk her.

    Disliked:

The water pressure in the showers wasn't very good especially if you like a hot shower. The dish washing block had three sinks, two inside and one outside. the water pressure in one sink was good but took a long time to get hot. The other sink had low pressure and didn't seem to get hot. We didn't use the one outside.

This camp was beyond our expectations, good size flat pitches and the toilets and showers were the best we have ever experienced.Modern and spotless clean. The hosts could not do enough for you and were always available to sort out any minor problems. Plenty of room for young children to let off steam. The campsite is in a quiet area so very little road noise and is well maintained. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return again. Excellent.

Toilets and showers were always super clean. The pitches were really flat and were close to water and waste bins. Also had hedges separating parallel pitches. Great for star gazing at night!

    Disliked:

Gates get locked at night time, it is a reasonable time and they can be opened in emergency or if prearranged.

Excellent spacious site with spotless toilets and showers, I can highly recommend this lovely campsite!

    Disliked:

The ground on our pitch was difficult to get tent pegs into, stone or rock under the first couple of inches of top soil so I would advise you to use some power pegs! Could also done with a bit more lighting as the field is very dark if you are away from the facilities.

Angling fans will be well served with a stay at Bylaugh Country Park – the Wensum river is nearby, and several carp lakes, including Swanton Morley, Billingford and Lenwade, are ripe for fishing within 10 minutes’ drive of the site.

If a beach break is more your speed, Bylaugh is 40 minutes from the northern coast of Norfolk, where you can explore the Norfolk Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, walk the Norfolk Coast Path and visit the scenic seaside towns that line it.

Head back in time with a trip on the steam trains at Mid-Norfolk Railway and Bure Valley Railway, both within 30 minutes of the site, or by visiting the stately homes of Blickling Estate, Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and Sandringham, all within 40 minutes of Bylaugh.

There’s plenty close at hand for entertaining the kids too: they can meet the wildlife at Pensthorpe Natural Park, run wild at BeWILDerwood or get their own taste of history at Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure. If they’re up for a slightly longer jaunt in the car, you can all get your adrenaline pumping on the rides at Pleasurewood Hills theme park.
