General

  • Friendly family-oriented naturist club 20 minutes' drive from Wisbech
  • Two pools, sauna and large heated clubhouse
  • 18-hole putting green, shuffleboard and pétanque

Fancy a family foray to the fens, free from the need to be fully clothed? Cast your kit off among a friendly community of like-minded folk at Croft Naturist Country Club, in a peaceful rural spot on the Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border.

Settle in here and it’s likely you’ll not be in much of a hurry to head out again, such is the lengthy list of leisure facilities to keep you entertained on site. Get that newly-liberated bod moving with games of volleyball, mini tennis, pétanque, shuffleboard and table tennis, or perfect your aim at the 18-hole putting green.

On a sunny day you can top up your all-over tan with a swim-and-sunbathe session at the outdoor pool. Should you encounter a less clement day, retreat to the indoor pool or, for a small extra charge, warm up in the sauna or hot tub. Other undercover facilities include a games room, TV room and a clubhouse with a small stage and dance floor for party nights (some of which are chargeable).

For eats, guests are welcome to use the small kitchen area (with microwave, fridge and freezer) or stoke up the coals on a barbecue – forage for the necessaries at farm shops and supermarkets 20 minutes away in Wisbech. There’s also a cracking collection of country pubs within a 10-minute drive.

Beautiful peaceful site with super clean amenities. Very warm welcome plus a tour of the site and facilities on a golf buggy. Would definitely stay again and look forward to it. Shower block very clean with plenty of hot water.

    Disliked:

No on site shop, bar or restaurant. But excellent clubhouse with entertainment on Sat of Aug bank holiday where you can bring your own drinks + glasses, so no problem really.

Friendly people and very laid back atmosphere. Obviously a well run site. We will be back.

    Disliked:

One of the toilet and shower blocks , although very clean, really needs modernising.
The one thing that a Naturist site should have is high quality shower and
    toilet blocks.

There was nothing we did not like about Croft & that is down to the staff and members.
Grounds are beautifully kept with some lovely landscaping in the top area.
All areas are clean and well maintained and the ground is level for camping.
The staff cannot do enough to help and spend time thoughtfully creating entertainment which is really good fun.
There is a sense of community here but not cliquey, we found people although in groups with their friends open and inclusive to us newbies. Within minutes of arriving we had someone offering to help us put the tent up. You can be as remote or inclusive as you wish whether in the mood for someone to chat to or be by yourself.
Mark enjoyed playing water volleyball for the first time with a bunch of men & one lady, this happens at 12 o'clock every day if you want some social interaction.

Directions

From the B1099/A1101:
Croft Country Club is about half a mile from the junction of the A1101 and the B1094 (Halfpenny Toll Road). Two signs saying 'Greenend' and 'Croft' are situated at the top of the lane leading to the park (at this point most sat navs say you are heading into the middle of a field, as the lane 'Greenend' is not shown on most maps).

Local attractions

Robe up again and get ready to roam – there’s much to do in the surrounds. If you’ve come this way for great gulps of fresh air, might you be tempted by days of horse riding (10 minutes’ drive away in Outwell), fishing at Townsend Lakes (five minutes) or birdwatching at the Welney WWT Centre (25 minutes)? Bike rides are always an excellent idea in this forgivingly flat part of the land, as are walks along the Old Croft River next to the site (a particular source of excitement if you happen to be a dog).

Whizz off to Wisbech in 20 minutes or so, not just for shops and restaurants but also for a potter around the National Trust-managed Peckover House, a tour of Elgood's Brewery and a fab flying display at Fens Falconry. Just outside town, Fenland and West Norfolk Aviation Museum (25 minutes) showcases a different form of flight for folk fascinated by planes.

Outings a little further away might include a trip to the handsome cathedral in Ely (30 minutes), a jaunt to wave at the Queen at the Sandringham Estate (40 minutes) and a day at one of Norfolk’s gorgeous beaches – head to Holkham, an hour away, for a naturist stretch of sand.

Must see

  • Ely Cathedral (11.4 miles)
  • Wicken Fen National Nature Reserve (17.5 miles)
  • Peterborough Cathedral (19.3 miles)

National Trust

  • Peckover House and Garden (7.7 miles)
  • Oxburgh Hall (14.9 miles)
