If you like the idea of parking up somewhere and finding lots of activities right there to save you driving all over the place, you should be pretty happy with the situation at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. This site is set within Ferry Meadows Country Park, just outside Peterborough and known as one of the area’s top destinations for outdoor activities. The country park (part of the larger Nene Park Trust) has a fabulous 650 acres to explore while you're here, with 60 miles of off-road cycleways and walking trails as well as two golf courses, a watersports centre and various other activities including archery and climbing. And if that’s all too tiring, you can opt for a boat trip or steam train ride instead… Occupying a prime position within the park, this Cambridgeshire campsite makes a great base for a break in these attractive and activity-packed surroundings. It’s managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club and open to non-members as well as members (if you’re a member already, just select the relevant extra on your booking to claim your discounted rate). High-quality pitch areas and facilities are always part of the package with Club sites, and this location is no exception. The pitches here are spacious and well maintained, with access to a launderette, a chemical disposal point and well-appointed bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby/toddler rooms. There’s a kids' play area and a dog play area to ensure everyone can have a bit of a run about – and there’s a family-friendly pub 10 minutes' walk away for easy meals and drinks.

Local attractions

The activities at the park may well fill much of your time while you're here, but you may like to explore further afield from time to time – for example, heading in to the centre of Peterborough (10 minutes’ drive) for shopping, meals, movies and indoor activities like ice skating, bowling and swimming. Peterborough has a bit of heritage to explore too – notably the cathedral and the Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery. Around the city, places like John Clare Cottage, Museum, Café and Gardens (20 minutes) and Flag Fen Archaeology Park (25 minutes) are also worth checking out. Kids are likely to be very taken with a day out at Sacrewell Farm (15 minutes), which has a sensory garden, a playbarn and a working water mill as well as lots of cute animals to meet. There’s also the chance to see species from around the world at the Exotic Pet Refuge (25 minutes), run by an animal rescue and rehab charity.
