  • Member price shown; non-members select £15/night extra or join for £69
If you like the idea of parking up somewhere and finding lots of activities right there to save you driving all over the place, you should be happy with the situation at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. This site is within Ferry Meadows Country Park, just outside Peterborough and known as one of the area’s top destinations for outdoor activities. The country park (part of the larger Nene Park Trust) has a fabulous 650 acres to explore while you're here, with 60 miles of off-road cycleways and walking trails plus two golf courses, a watersports centre and various other activities including archery and climbing. And if that’s all too tiring, you can opt for a boat trip or steam train ride instead… This Cambridgeshire campsite makes a great base for a break in these attractive surroundings. It’s managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club but you don’t need to be a member to stay. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members pay a £15/night extra charge. It's certainly worth considering membership if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Caravan and Motorhome Club site over the coming year; the £69 annual fee entitles you to discounted rates at more than 140 UK Club sites plus a raft of other perks, like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The pitches here are spacious and well maintained, with access to a launderette, a chemical disposal point and well-appointed bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby/toddler rooms. There’s a kids' play area and a dog play area to ensure everyone can have a run about – and there’s a family-friendly pub 10 minutes' walk away for easy meals.

What customers say

Guests praise the friendly, helpful staff and the campsite's excellent, clean facilities. Its prime location offers easy access to walking routes, Nene Park, and local amenities including pubs and a cafe. Pitches are described as good-sized and the site is generally tidy. Some visitors found the check-in process disorganised, the WiFi patchy, and pitches closely situated. The park operates a system of choosing pitches upon arrival.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Very friendly , helpful staff
Proximity to great easy walking
Adequate clean facilities

Disliked Having to drive around to find a pitch, and seeing others doing the same. Surely there is a better system ?
The code to the men’s and ladies facilities is the same, I’d question this with so many children about.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Nice clean site.

Disliked The way that check in was organised:-
We were greeted by a man who spent 5 minutes on his two way radio, he checked our details sent us through the barrier to another guy, we drove 50yards round to another man (who was stood next to the office), we then drove over the road to another barrier, had to wait another 3-4mins for them to open the barrier. We were told “just drive round a bit and choose your pitch”. Which is all well and good but with a 22ft long caravan on the back that’s easier said than done. Once pitch up in the blistering heat we then had to walk back to the office to get the barrier card and code for the toilets. In the meantime we had drove over an hour and when arrived needed the toilet. Once we had found our pitch I walked over to the toilet block to discover they were locked and we needed the code. Upon my visit to the office, the lady at check in was not particularly friendly, there was no site map, rules etc. Not very impressed by this system.

Pitches close together, toilets and shower block quite old and outdated, but clean.

Local attractions

The activities at the park may well fill much of your time while you're here, but you may like to explore further afield from time to time – maybe heading in to the centre of Peterborough (10 minutes’ drive) for shopping, meals, movies and indoor activities like ice skating, bowling and swimming. Peterborough has a bit of heritage to explore too – notably the cathedral and the Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery. Around the city, places like John Clare Cottage, Museum, Café and Gardens (20 minutes) and Flag Fen Archaeology Park (25 minutes) are also worth checking out. Kids are likely to be very taken with a day out at Sacrewell Farm (15 minutes), which has a sensory garden, a playbarn and a working water mill as well as lots of cute animals to meet. There’s also the chance to see species from around the world at the Exotic Pet Refuge (25 minutes), run by an animal rescue and rehab charity.
