  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site at a 650-acre country park
  • Access to fishing, watersports, golf and miles of walking/bike paths
  • Caravan and Motorhome Club site open to non-members, with member rates
If you like the idea of parking up somewhere and finding lots of activities right there to save you driving all over the place, you should be happy with the situation at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite. This site is within Ferry Meadows Country Park, just outside Peterborough and known as one of the area’s top destinations for outdoor activities. The country park (part of the larger Nene Park Trust) has a fabulous 650 acres to explore while you're here, with 60 miles of off-road cycleways and walking trails plus two golf courses, a watersports centre and various other activities including archery and climbing. And if that’s all too tiring, you can opt for a boat trip or steam train ride instead… This Cambridgeshire campsite makes a great base for a break in these attractive surroundings. It’s managed by the Caravan and Motorhome Club but you don’t need to be a member to stay. The price displayed is the member rate; non-members pay a £15/night extra charge. It's certainly worth considering membership if you're likely to spend more than four nights at a Caravan and Motorhome Club site over the coming year; the £69 annual fee entitles you to discounted rates at more than 140 UK Club sites plus a raft of other perks, like access to tailored caravan/motorhome insurance, discounts on days out and savings on top brands. The pitches here are spacious and well maintained, with access to a launderette, a chemical disposal point and well-appointed bathrooms with accessible facilities and baby/toddler rooms. There’s a kids' play area and a dog play area to ensure everyone can have a run about – and there’s a family-friendly pub 10 minutes' walk away for easy meals.

Liked The pitches were laid out well with clear markings, we were on the West Side which is mostly for caravan and motor homes with only a few grass pitches.
Staff came round within 5 minutes of arriving at the pitch to see we were okay.
We had the choice which side to stay, that was great, the other side we were told had a lot of kids on site and was more set up with families. Looking on the map it had a play park too for the kids but we never went over to that side.
There was an area where dogs could be off lead on our site.
The toilet, shower room and washing up facilities were well kept, very spacious and cleaned each morning with clear times.

Disliked My most dislike was that while the staff were friendly, it didn't feel welcoming at all, perhaps as it was more business ran than pleasure.
In my past experiences on different sites, we have been handed a map or shown on a map where facilites are, dog walking areas, dark park if they have one, just the little things that make you feel welcome and 'at home'.
Upon arrival we were questioned about our dogs (Staffy's) yes, they bark and look mean when someone is talking to us through the car window, being asked about their breed was fine and expected, however after saying their breed we were questioned further "Are you sure?"
When asking about WiFi on site, the person I asked let out a sigh and it felt like a burden that she had to get an information leaflet from the board and informed me "There should be leaflets in the information centre." If I'd have known there was an information centre, I'd have gone there.
It was only looking through reviews that I discovered there was an area to let dogs off lead, nothing mentioned on their site map. Just says to keep dogs on leads in permitted areas, which also are not clearly marked. The gates on the dog park have no latch or locking mechanism, meaning the dogs can just push the gates open and escape if owners don't guard both doors or tie it shut. The gates open away from the dog park.
Should have been obvious, but the trains! Such a noisy site with trains still blowing their horns at gone 10pm at night. This isn't down to the site but something to consider if wanting a quiet site.

Liked Well maintained site, plenty of water/waste disposal points

Small off lead dog area

Close to Ferry Meadows park and a couple of bars/restaurants

Could choose on pitch on arrival

Good play area

Staff friendly

Disliked Site split into 2, with wardens on opposite side of the road to the part we were on, not great from a security point of view.

Toilet/shower block closed for 2 hours 10 to 12 every day, seemed a long time and at a bad time too, generally around the time we're getting ready to go out for the day

Local attractions

The activities at the park may well fill much of your time while you're here, but you may like to explore further afield from time to time – maybe heading in to the centre of Peterborough (10 minutes’ drive) for shopping, meals, movies and indoor activities like ice skating, bowling and swimming. Peterborough has a bit of heritage to explore too – notably the cathedral and the Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery. Around the city, places like John Clare Cottage, Museum, Café and Gardens (20 minutes) and Flag Fen Archaeology Park (25 minutes) are also worth checking out. Kids are likely to be very taken with a day out at Sacrewell Farm (15 minutes), which has a sensory garden, a playbarn and a working water mill as well as lots of cute animals to meet. There’s also the chance to see species from around the world at the Exotic Pet Refuge (25 minutes), run by an animal rescue and rehab charity.
