The Old Bush: Pitches up high so great views

General

  • Small site in the grounds of a Callow End traditional village pub
  • A 15-minute drive from the Malvern Hills and Worcester
  • Large beer garden with outdoor tables, play area and chickens

For those couples/travelling parties that frequently face disagreement over whose turn it is to be designated driver, there’s really only one sensible solution: bed down right there at the pub.

Dozing off at the bar might be considered a little unseemly, so The Old Bush’s owners Matt and Karen have come up with a better solution and set up pitches in the garden area behind their rural Worcestershire pub. Thus guests can partake of dinners accompanied by a few local ales/ciders before strolling home (to a peaceful corner with drinking water, showers and 24-hour toilets) in just a couple of minutes – how civilised.

In fact, the whole setup here is rather civilised: The Old Bush is a traditional country pub in the little village of Callow End, with food available at lunch and dinner times, plus a menu of mini meals for smaller guests. On warmer days the merriment spills out into the garden, where there’s a play area, an aviary and a little flock of chickens along with plenty of tables for open-air drinking, dining and admiring the views over the Malvern hills.

Of course, one can’t sit around in the pub all day (well, maybe not every day, anyway…), so it’s worth noting that this is also a handy location for walks, horse riding, games of golf, fishing and days out in Worcester and Malvern (both 15 minutes away by car). Handily, if you do ‘accidentally’ sup one too many at lunchtime there’s a bus stop in the village so you can still get out and about.

Please note

The bar is open between 01/01 and 31/12.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

If you intend to eat at the pub, please let the site know once onsite so you can book a table in advance.

Pub food is a must, advise booking in advance, however as we did not the made us welcome and as soon as a table was free we were on it and enjoying a point with our food. Dog Friendly too.

A small farm-like place situated next to the site with welcoming early cockerel sounding the start of a new day.

On the day of our departure, we decided to take up the offer of a full English at the Shop at the Top, very, very nice and set us up for the day ahead.

Friendly welcome, cosy & well appointed pods, good facilities28/09/2022

From the friendly, warm welcome at check-in to the delicious breakfast that we got from Shop at the Top the next morning, our stay at The Old Bush was just right.

The pods themselves were cosy and well equipped, with plenty of well placed power sockets, decent wifi, a TV, and proper kettle and crokery for a tea, coffee or hot chocolate. Although we only stayed one night - it was the perfect stumbling distance from a birthday party at Stanbrooke Abbey Hotel - I could certainly have imagined staying longer. There's a shower room with toilet, washing up station, and even ironing board and iron for the use of pod guests, plus more toilets on site just down the hill. All were clean and pleasant to use.

The Old Bush pub serves decent ale and has a lovely beer garden with play equipment and an aviary! The Shop at the Top is very well appointed, and is clearly loved by both locals and those visiting.

Everything! The pitches were immaculate, the views outrageously beautiful and the showers were great - warm and drenching with no faffy timers. The toilets were clean and well maintained. I loved waking up next to the farmers field next door and seeing the happy animals grazing. The pub was welcoming and dog friendly. Loved it!

    Disliked:

Only the uphill walk on the way back from the pub! Good exercise though!

The site holds about 10 motorhomes, set out beautifully on a slight hill but with lovely, level pitches. Spotlessly clean with very friendly owners. A beautiful cafe on site, selling local produce, which is great. There is a massive aviary, that we chose to park next to, which is absolutely beautiful and houses very healthy birds.
The old pub on site is charming and full of character. The meals are lovely and the staff friendly.
Don't know about WiFi as we have our own.
The only mistake we made was not booking for longer. We will definitely be returning and highly recommend this lovely site to all.

From the manager...

I am sorry your though our site was expensive and basic (I find that quite rude to be honest) Our site offers the following facilities, toilets, electric, fresh water, hot water, washing up area, chemical waste, grey waste, recycling, shop cafe, free wifi and showers. I am not quite sure what else we can offer? please advise. As for the showers being locked! that is why we gave you a key to unlock the door. it's not rocket science so how do you feel you can make a complaint about the showers being locked what did you think the key was for? it mind boggling.
