Rural site

General

  • Peaceful caravan site in Callow Hill, five minutes' drive from Bewdley
  • Next to the Wyre Forest, a few minutes' walk from Go Ape
  • Fishing, free-range eggs and fruit picking on site free of charge

Lucky Lucy, living in this splendid Worcestershire spot... Lucy’s Farm is a caravan park in the little village of Callow Hill, five minutes’ drive from Bewdley, on a five-acre site filled with fruit trees.

Rather handily for those who like rural retreats to come with easy access to local ales, the site is sandwiched between the village’s two pubs so you’ll never be more than a five-minute stroll from a pint or a plate of dinner. Also within a few minutes’ walk are the village’s tennis club, riding school and forest adventure park, plus the Wyre Forest visitor centre. Get in the car for 10 minutes instead for trips to the West Midland Safari Park, games of golf and steam-powered rides on the Severn Valley Railway.

Life on the farm is a peaceful affair – activity options involve taking your fishing rod down to the pond or strolling to meet the friendly farm animals; come along in summer and you might get a tractor ride too. You may also like to see whether the free-range chickens have been producing (if they have, that means fresh and free eggs for your brekkie) and whether there's any ripe fruit to pluck (for breakfast part two).

If you’ve got kids that favour running over relaxing, they should find plenty of space to play games around the place too.

Please note

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa, Dobermann, Husky, German Shepherd, or type of Bull Terrier.

The toilet on site is a portaloo.

Didn’t even stay, arrive around 2.30 for our 1 night stay, the gate was locked so pulled into the next street & phoned the owner think we woke him up cause he wasn’t very friendly & had no clue that we booked on pitchup on 25/9/19 He then mumbled something & hung up I rung back to ask if we could stay, he asked the same questions, when did we book? & what time we were arriving? We told him the street we was on with the Methodist church & he said he didn’t know it? Then hung up again He sounded hungover, which is understandable as it was Boxing Day but he should never have stated being open all year. We tried to phone him back but wouldn’t answer, It was the start of our Exciting, well earned holiday & after a 3&1/2 hr drive. We arrived to an angry un helpful Man! Thank goodness for the pub across the road The Duke William, & the lovely young couple owners they made us very welcome & only charged us £5 for hook up. This has definitely made us question using pitch up again! & how they regulate there sites?

Nothing. Don't come expecting luxury facilities and you won't be disappointed. Yes it's by a main road and the only toilet is a porta-loo, but staff friendly and free eggs and firewood for the fire pit (provided). Good dog walk into the Wye forest just two minutes away.

From the manager...

Dear Mrs D.
Thank you for your review.
You are right in a sense, that it is a field with hook-ups and a portaloo.
However, most CL sites are in fact fields with or without hook-ups. And lots of CL sites have no toilet facilities at all. The toilet on site is a portaloo and it is cleaned every morning. It is very frustrating for me as the owner when the minority abuse the toilet and leave it in a mess. I would have thought campers would not want to get themselves a bad reputation and leave the facilities as they find them, but it seems not.
I would like to point out that we are not just a field. We have many fruit trees, for which there is no charge for our customers to pick and enjoy the fruit. there is also free range eggs often available, again at no cost. We have a fishing pool on site, again at no cost. We also have a horse, goat, two dogs, chickens and geese on site for you to enjoy. We provide a fire basket and wood for the fire, again at no cost. We have our own wood (forest) for our camper's children to explore and direct access onto the Wyre Forest.
I would like to think these benefits far outweigh the irresponsible behaviour of a few people abusing the toilet facility.
Knd regards
The Manager

Local attractions

Lucky Lucy again, for she (and her guests) can walk to the Wyre Forest visitor centre in 10 minutes to hit the woodland trails on foot or mountain bikes, or get up into the treetops at the Go Ape adventure park. Heading out on horseback is an option too, with a riding centre five minutes away by car.

If the farm life has caught the kids’ imagination (or yours – no one says you have to grow out of chuckling at cute animals), head for Little Owl Farm Park, 20 minutes' drive away. Bigger beasts can be found roaming the plains at West Midland Safari Park (10 minutes).

Turn your attentions to how folk lived in the olden days with a trip to see the rock houses at Kinver Edge (20 minutes), where there’s also a maize maze to lose the kids in, followed by a heritage ride on the Severn Valley Railway (10 minutes). Swing home via Bewdley (five minutes) to take in the museum and (for those of a certain age) sup a pint at the brewery tap room.

Must see

  • Witley Court & Gardens (English Heritage) (5.5 miles)
  • Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings (13.1 miles)
