Lucy's Farm: Fishing is free of charge

General

  • Peaceful caravan site in Callow Hill, five minutes' drive from Bewdley
  • Next to the Wyre Forest, a few minutes' walk from Go Ape
  • Fishing, free-range eggs and fruit picking on site free of charge

Lucky Lucy, living in this splendid Worcestershire spot... Lucy’s Farm is a caravan park in the little village of Callow Hill, five minutes’ drive from Bewdley, on a five-acre site filled with fruit trees.

Rather handily for those who like rural retreats to come with easy access to local ales, the site is sandwiched between the village’s two pubs so you’ll never be more than a five-minute stroll from a pint or a plate of dinner. Also within a few minutes’ walk are the village’s tennis club, riding school and forest adventure park, plus the Wyre Forest visitor centre. Get in the car for 10 minutes instead for trips to the West Midland Safari Park, games of golf and steam-powered rides on the Severn Valley Railway.

Life on the farm is a peaceful affair – activity options involve taking your fishing rod down to the pond or strolling to meet the friendly farm animals; come along in summer and you might get a tractor ride too. You may also like to see whether the free-range chickens have been producing (if they have, that means fresh and free eggs for your brekkie) and whether there's any ripe fruit to pluck (for breakfast part two).

If you’ve got kids that favour running over relaxing, they should find plenty of space to play games around the place too.

Please note

This park has no on-site shower facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa, Dobermann, Husky, German Shepherd, or type of Bull Terrier.

Everything, the staff are friendly and willing to help with anything, the animals are amazing and get let out to roam free from time to time, the location is nice and quiet, I was alone and felt very safe and secure on this site, they offer firewood and fresh eggs on arrival too

    Disliked:

More of a side note, there is only one poterloo but they did say they're getting better toilet facilities, but what they do have is kept very clean and presentable

Quite basic but very charming little farm. More suited to younger children I would say, the animals roaming are very nice (beware gangs of chickens marauding the site; they stole bacon from my plate as I was eating it, distracting me with a rather well executed pincer movement). Obviously bring your own entertainment which is the point and sadly the portaloo (that’s right, single) is pretty ghastly. I stayed with my 12 year old daughter on her first camping trip and she loved it. Would go again. 4.5 stars brought down by the loos

Really natural feel to the site - just enough facilities (water and a loo!) but gloriously back to nature. Free range chickens and other animals were a delight too. Easy walking distance to both local pubs, and the Wyre Forest.

Love the warm and friendly welcome from lucy’s Brother and Dad. The campsite was lovely and relaxed with free ranged chickens pottering about. There was Electrical hook ups with ample water supply around the site. We had a fire pit with fire wood at a small charge that was a touch with our evening drinks. The Forrest is only a short walk down the bottom of the hill by the fishing pond which is all so nice spot of rustic camping. Overall we all had a fun relaxing time and would go back again. Ps Thank you to the Dad for letting us use your chair x

    Disliked:

Only small dislike is the portaloo that wasn’t a major problem as used to festival toilets but just want to point it out if any one else going didn’t know

Such a lovely place. Adults and kids loved the animals free roaming and the setting was beautiful. We pitched by the pond and next to the forest so the view was beautiful. We will definitely be visiting again.

    Disliked:

No showers and only one portaloo but this is known before you go so wasn’t a surprise. Another toilet would have been good.

Was nice location, especially with forest area around very lovely. Lovely fruits to pick too including plums. Oh and the goats being allowed out temporarily were lovely too

    Disliked:

I don't like the live wire to stop the horse from entering the pitching area. It was v low and easily accessible by children. I think when "checking in"if I had been "warned" i would have been more prepared and chosen a different location for pitching.
Free roaming animals is lovely to a degree but not when you can't eat a meal because the chickens are fighting you for it. We have camped wild out back a lot and never experienced that. They're usually put away and let out for a bit.
A lot of poop on the floor. Probably not ideal for kids.
Could do with an extra portaloo

Local attractions

Lucky Lucy again, for she (and her guests) can walk to the Wyre Forest visitor centre in 10 minutes to hit the woodland trails on foot or mountain bikes, or get up into the treetops at the Go Ape adventure park. Heading out on horseback is an option too, with a riding centre five minutes away by car.

If the farm life has caught the kids’ imagination (or yours – no one says you have to grow out of chuckling at cute animals), head for Little Owl Farm Park, 20 minutes' drive away. Bigger beasts can be found roaming the plains at West Midland Safari Park (10 minutes).

Turn your attentions to how folk lived in the olden days with a trip to see the rock houses at Kinver Edge (20 minutes), where there’s also a maize maze to lose the kids in, followed by a heritage ride on the Severn Valley Railway (10 minutes). Swing home via Bewdley (five minutes) to take in the museum and (for those of a certain age) sup a pint at the brewery tap room.

Must see

  • Witley Court & Gardens (English Heritage) (8.8 kilometres)
  • Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings (21.1 kilometres)
  • Worcester Cathedral (22.0 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Kinver Edge and the Rock Houses (13.2 kilometres)
