A beautiful evening on site
Paddle in the shallow water
Paddle in the crystal-clear water of the river avon
Wild camping with loads of space for everyone

  • Pick your own pitch at a 12-acre site on the banks of the River Avon
  • Warwick Castle and Royal Leamington Spa within 15 minutes' drive
  • Fishing on site (for an extra charge); farm shop/café a mile away
There are many reasons why one might fancy settling down by a river – perhaps for the fishing, the views, the wildlife… maybe even the chance to get in the water. Happily, all of the above are on the cards at Avon Wild Camping, a peaceful Warwickshire site on the banks of the River Avon 15 minutes' drive from Leamington Spa. There’s a mighty pretty stretch of the river running alongside one side of this site, making it a prime spot for kids to paddle and catch minnows in the shallows (under supervision, of course) or for grownups to pick up permits (available on site for an extra charge) to try their luck with the chub, pike, grayling, roach and brown trout that swim in the waters. It’s a popular part of the world with wildlife too, so settling down by the river with binoculars and/or a drink also comes highly recommended. All is very laidback around here: it’s a pick-your-own pitch place, with heaps of space to choose from around the 12 acres of meadow. Being a back-to-basics site, there are no electric hookups, but there is access to limited (but clean) toilet facilities, showers and running water. As this is an eco site, the toilets run on rainwater, guests are strongly encouraged to recycle and, without wifi, the kids are free to focus on playing by the river. Alfresco meals can be cooked up at the campfire area; there are firepits and kiln-dried timber available if you need them. Pick up supplies for such things at the farm shop a mile away; it’s also got a café for coffee, cakes, pizzas and other meals if you’d rather eat out. There are several good country pubs nearby too, or you could scoot into Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes’ drive) for more places to eat and drink.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really nice place, we enjoyed especially the river. Close to hour houses. Plenty of spaces to camp. Bathrooms are good.

Disliked: Noise rules after 22 hrs, no enforced. People shouting, laughing for another couple of hours.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We came just for one night, first time with a big bee tent and zero experience with putting the tent up.....the campsite owner explained us everything and we also got a lot of help from our camping neighbours! Thank you for the warm welcome, we are much more confident now and we will definitely come back as the campsite is fantastic, location is just by the river, plenty of space, quite and peaceful.Thank you once again for help. Anita & Andrew

Disliked: Nothing, everything was perfect!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: - Lovely location
- Access to the river
- Plenty of room to choose from and explore

Disliked: Nothing in particular, but if I had to say...

- Not very well signposted, but perhaps intentional for security reasons
- Only one loo block but they are tidy and clean
- A tad on the expensive side for wild camping but I suppose you are paying for the river access. Could do with a few more facilities for the price perhaps.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The camping area was very quiet and was exactly as described, in the sense that it is a wild camping area with areas of long grass and quieter areas where you can feel at one with nature. We paddled in the river, played on the rope swing. We were lucky in that it was relatively quiet so we had a lot of privacy. I can imagine in busier times it could be quite crowded.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback, glad you had a great time. I'm pleased that you appreciated how quiet it was, we have increased our prices slightly, and reduced the quantity of pitches this year, so you pay a little bit more, but you have a lot less people and, you are more likely to get a nice riverside pitch! We've also introduced a 'No Loud Music' at any time rule... which also seems to be working very well. Thanks Again

An amazing chilled out (basic but fantastic) camping spot!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful place, in the middle of nature, right next to the river. Real wild camping

Disliked: A lot of big noisy groups playing loud music until after midnight and no one to tell people to be quiet despite the rules stating it should be quiet after 10pm.
No toilet paper and not a lot of cleaning. Not really anyone to manage the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback, we do not allow loud music at any time of the day. The site manager is on site at all times, every customer is sent his number as part of the welcome text, if you reported a problem then it would be dealt with. Thanks again

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A lovely riverside campsite that we have visited numerous times. Toilets were generally good (take some loo roll just in case), and the addition of the shower is a nice touch.

Disliked: It's a shame the woodfire pizzas they were serving last year didn't last.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything. Place was great with amazing views of the river. Pizza freshly cooked was stunning. People on reviews moaned about the toilets but they were cleaned constantly. Chatted to the people who work there and they were very friendly and welcoming. A very much needed relaxing break and I will be going again in the coming weeks as a tranquil switch off go to place.. 9.5/10.... Come on, no one gives a 10 but it's close 👍

Disliked: The free flowing river was cold...boiler could have been broken. Haha

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind words John :)

As we’re 100% off-grid , the team work incredibly hard to deliver this service, but it’s nice to know that everything runs from solar, so our eco approach matches the beautiful countryside that we share with nature.

We will continue our organic approach to developing the site further so hopefully, next time you visit there will be some more additions.

Thanks Again

Local attractions

The big draw around here is Warwick Castle (15 minutes’ drive) – it’s well worth a proper day out to explore the dungeons, take in the shows, get lost in the maze, see the birds of prey flying, wander through the 64 acres of the estate… oh, and visit the castle itself, of course. For something just a little less expansive, head instead to Kenilworth Castle and Elizabethan Garden (15 minutes) or stroll around the pretty Jephson Gardens in Royal Leamington Spa (10 minutes). Coventry (15 minutes) and Stratford-upon-Avon (25 minutes) are other good options for urban days out; try Ryton Pools Country Park (five minutes) or Stoneleigh Deer Golf Club (over the road) if you’d rather stay rural. If you need family days out, take bouncy kids over to the Jump In trampoline park (15 minutes), or get set for farm-based fun among the animals, play areas, funfair rides and escape rooms at Hatton Adventure World (25 minutes).
