Pitches

  • 'Sparkling showers and huge pitches'
  • Set on 10 acres two miles from Alton Towers
  • Spectacular countryside on the edge of the Peak District
To Alton Towers! Staffordshire's popular Lower Micklin Touring Park is just five minutes' drive from the whirls and rides of this most exciting theme park to have the kids most excited; you might need a second day there just to make sure you get round the lot... And Lower Micklin is also at the edge of the Peak District and a few miles from Uttoxeter Racecourse for more Staffs holiday happenings. A public footpath walk leads to Alton village and the local pub is half a mile away by footpath or country lane. (Miles of other walks are all around: just look up at the walls on site when you're doing the washing-up: you'll see what's meant by that when you get there...) Lower Micklin is set in 10 acres of grassland with plenty of space for the kids to run around and a one-kilometre track for big folk to walk or jog. It has new heated shower and toilet facilities with free hot water and a family bathroom with toilet, shower, basin and baby changing unit. The park also has rubbish and recycling facilities, covered washing-up sinks with hot water and – a tad more excitement for the sprogs – a ball field with goal posts and a play area with slide, swings and a climbing wall. For Alton eats, local takeaways deliver to the site, and both Alton and Denston close by have food shops and pubs.

What customers say

This is a well-maintained and peaceful site with stunning countryside views, praised for its cleanliness and friendly, helpful owners. Pitches are generally spacious and level. It's considered an excellent, convenient base for visiting Alton Towers. Some guests experienced queues for showers and toilets, and the push-button showers were a recurring minor complaint, though the facilities were consistently described as clean.

Bell tent

Liked ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

We had a fantastic stay at Lower Micklin Touring Park in a bell tent and couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The site is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and surrounded by stunning countryside views.

The bell tent was clean, comfortable, and well-equipped, making it a perfect glamping experience. The facilities throughout the park were spotless and clearly well looked after. The location is ideal, especially for visiting Alton Towers, which is only a short drive away.

What really stood out was the warm welcome and friendliness of the owners, who went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The atmosphere was relaxed, family-friendly, and perfect for unwinding.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend Lower Micklin Touring Park to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway or a convenient base for exploring the area. We will definitely be returning!

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked The location was great - just outside of the peak district and very easy to get to. There are lots of lovely walks to go on, and even some trails straight from the site. This was great as we were there during the heatwave and needed to get he dog out on some early walks.

The site was well-maintained and clean. The owners were very friendly on arrival and helped us when we were struggling with the electric hookup.

Disliked The pitches aren't the biggest - we were in the lower section, which was very busy and felt like we were on top of people. However, next time we would just book the larger pitch, which had lots of room. We also hadn't realised that the electric hookup was a lower voltage on the smaller pitches, so we weren't able to run our electric BBQ. This was on us for not reading the details properly, but it's worth noting.

The facilities were nice; however, there aren't many of them, which meant that there was often a queue for the showers and toilets. Again, the site was very busy this week as there was a local dog show going on, so you might not have the same issue if you go at a different time.
