To Alton Towers! Staffordshire's popular Lower Micklin Touring Park is just five minutes' drive from the whirls and rides of this most exciting theme park to have the kids most excited; you might need a second day there just to make sure you get round the lot... And Lower Micklin is also at the edge of the Peak District and a few miles from Uttoxeter Racecourse for more Staffs holiday happenings. A public footpath walk leads to Alton village and the local pub is half a mile away by footpath or country lane. (Miles of other walks are all around: just look up at the walls on site when you're doing the washing-up: you'll see what's meant by that when you get there...) Lower Micklin is set in 10 acres of grassland with plenty of space for the kids to run around and a one-kilometre track for big folk to walk or jog. It has new heated shower and toilet facilities with free hot water and a family bathroom with toilet, shower, basin and baby changing unit. The park also has rubbish and recycling facilities, covered washing-up sinks with hot water and – a tad more excitement for the sprogs – a ball field with goal posts and a play area with slide, swings and a climbing wall. For Alton eats, local takeaways deliver to the site, and both Alton and Denston close by have food shops and pubs.

Em va agradar Toilet block was super clean, hosts were very friendly, all pitches are electric, very convenient site.

No em va agradar The electric hookup was virtually useless, couldn’t even plug in our electric kettle in, only for phone charging.

Em va agradar Loved everything about it hear. We stayed 2 nights and attended alton towers on 2nd day. Perfect place to stay next to alton towers with a 6min drive to the park. Uber cost £6 there and £8 back.

Facilities all clean, some animals on park such as alpaca, guinea pigs & sheep.

We will be back for sure!

Em va agradar We stayed on one of the bigger pitches as we needed to bring two cars. Plenty of space and having a water tap on the pitch was very handy! Our electric lead did not reach our tent but the owner lent us an extension to use, which was very helpful. Thank you!

Our kid loved the animals, especially Oscar the dog, and the park. The family bathroom was also very handy.

Even though it was busy, the site was fairly quiet and all the guests were respectful of each other during the week.

The facilities were clean and well laid out. The addition of a communal freezer was very useful as we could freeze ice packs to make pack ups for the day.

Very close to Alton Towers and beautiful views all around.

No em va agradar Our only complaint was the shower taps. They were timed ones but only lasted about 3 seconds before shutting off, which was very frustrating. They should be a little longer.

Good layout
Nice little farm - sheep, alpaca, dog, guinea pigs on site.
Close to Alton towers and ramblers retreat
Showering facilities reasonable - mostly clean- cleaning spray and mop available to use (shame other campers didn’t know how to use them)

No em va agradar Showers weren’t very powerful but they were ok.

Park could do with revamp

Walks, walks and more walks: the public footpath between Denstone and Alton crosses Lower Micklin Touring Park and there are links to footpaths in all directions and to the Staffordshire Way, 92 miles of trail from Mow Cop Castle to Kinver Edge. The Peak District is a few miles away with many more hikes, or take the Tissington and High Peak bike trails if you're feeling hardy. Other options nearby could include bouldering in the Churnet Valley or trips on the area's two steam railways, the Foxfield Railway and the Churnet Valley Railway; having a close encounter with the animals at Peak Wildlife Park, or visiting historic homes like Chatsworth House and Sudbury Hall with the Museum of Childhood. If you want to leave the car behind (perhaps for a jaunt to the pub?), the taxi firm local to Lower Micklin Touring Park will pick up customers from the site.
