  • Off-grid, peaceful Shropshire woodland site within a Forest School
  • A 20-minute drive to Telford and 30 minutes away from Shrewsbury
  • Well-equipped kitchen, eco-friendly amenities, firepits and barbecues
Fancy swapping the sound of your smartphone pinging for the noise of birdsong? Then book in a trip at Wrekin Forest Events Camping, an off-grid site with a back to basics feel in lush Shropshire surrounds. This peaceful place also comes with handy essentials to help amp up a weekend in the woods, from fairy lights and festoon lamps to a barbecue, firepits and a well-equipped kitchen (although please note there's no fridge or freezer due to the off-grid nature of the site). While a stay at this park’s all about getting lost in the forest (bring your pup along to help you sniff your way back...) or letting the kids loose on the large playing field (with swings, sandpit, football net, badminton and table tennis), ace activities and attractions are all around too. It’s a 20-minute drive to Telford from here for the landmark Iron Bridge as well as a kids’ park with heritage trails and an aerial rope course. If educational times for the small fry are what you’re after, it's handy to note that the site is set in a Forest School with activities like archery, air rifle shooting, open-fire cooking and den building available, and outdoorsy courses available for primary school pupils. It's 25 minutes from the Museum of the Gorge as well, one of 10 around town giving a glimpse at the history of the Industrial Revolution in this area where it all began. (If even more poking into the past appeals, Blists Hill Victorian Town is around the same distance with its recreated 19th-century village and staff dressed up in fancy period clothes… and should be a hit with those primary-aged pupils too.) To nosey in nature instead, The Wrekin is a 25-minute drive from the park: putter to the hillfort’s 1,335-foot top and check out views over 17 of England’s counties or have picnics at the peak. And if you’d prefer to just hang out at your new home from home, plenty of space is available for outdoor games like croquet, swing ball and Jenga (all available to hire from the owners).

What customers say

This well-maintained site offers a peaceful woodland escape with abundant wildlife. Guests praise the thoughtful provision of amenities, including a shared kitchen with loanable items and well-equipped camping pods. The forest school and play areas are a hit with children. While most visitors enjoy the quiet, off-grid experience, some have encountered issues with midges and horseflies in shaded woodland pitches. Communication and the owners' hospitality are consistently highlighted as excellent.

Foxes Den camping pod

Liked The site lived up to everything it promised, quiet and peaceful, beautiful woodland setting and lots of wildlife. The camping pod had everything you could possibly need, comfy outdoor chairs, table, plates and cutlery. The fire pit and bbq are a nice touch with the first trug of logs free! The blow up mattress in the pod was comfortable, and stayed up! We slept so well. Definitely recommended for those who like an outdoors, off grid break, we will be returning.

Disliked Mosquitoes (can't be helped but bring plenty of repellent).

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked We spent the weekend here with our family and had an amazing time. The location is so peaceful, and all day long you can hear the birds singing. It was lovely that a BBQ and log burner were provided, making our stay even more enjoyable.

Our 10-year-old son absolutely loved spending time in the Forest School, and the children’s play area was another great place for the kids to have fun. We also really appreciated the outdoor kitchen, where you could borrow anything you had forgotten – such a thoughtful touch!

Everything was well looked after, and it was the perfect place to relax and enjoy nature. We’re already looking forward to coming back for another stay. Highly recommended!

Non-electric grass and earth tent pitch

Liked As usual, everything was brilliant. Quiet, secluded place, good for families with kids. Barely any signal, no electricity, no wi-fi, yet still civilised enough to be able to take a shower. Just the perfect spot to have a few days of sacred peace off the grid.

Squirrel's Hideaway non-electric grass and earth tent pitch (secluded)

Liked The site itself has everything you needed. Running water, toilet, kitchen area with items to borrow if forgot anything, small play area and was very quiet and not overcrowded unfortunately the pitch we stayed on squirrel hideaway was absolutely full of midges and horseflies. You couldn't stand out your tent without being eaten alive even with repellent on us and around the tent. We are talking excess amount and lots of bites. Me, my husband and children were all absolutely covered to the point we actually came home a day early which we have never done before but we had a baby and a toddler and it was to much for us never mind them. The site had a communal area which had hardly any flies as it was in the sun so we used this to get a break from the bites and cooked our tea. This was enjoyable. The pitch was to shaded and damp as it was in the woods and I don't think it should actually be hired out. You couldn't sit out and relax like you normally would do at camping you were pinned in your tent and as a family of 7 this wasn't ideal. Even pitching up and down was a nightmare with the biting. The other pitches which were out of this area seemed good and wish we had booked one of them so we had a possible different experience. Was perfect location for visiting hoozoo which is what we spent one of our days doing. If the bites hadn't been an issue then there was no complaints as it was a lovely site and definitely value for money.

Squirrel's Hideaway non-electric grass and earth tent pitch (secluded)

Liked Everything! Squirrels hideaway was perfect. Lovely private space with tables and chairs, fire pit and bbq. You feel secluded away but also not too far from everything you need (toilets) - I was lucky and had whole site to myself so was very quiet and peaceful. Owners were on site when I arrived and were warm, welcoming and helpful. Overall great experience and will be booking again.

Disliked Nothing !

Local attractions

In Shropshire with the intent of shuffling about in the lush landscape? Drive to Ironbridge first off (half an hour away) and steel yourself for a 139-mile stroll on the Shropshire Way. Alternatively, if that sounds a little lengthy for your liking, Much Wenlock is around the same distance and leads to the 19-mile limestone ridge of Wenlock Edge (and fun fact: it was formerly a tropical coral reef aeons ago when this area was under the sea). If this gets you craving some water-based whiling, take a stroll over to a Much Wenlock activity centre for canoeing, kayaking and rafting on the River Severn, plus quad biking and clay pigeon shooting on land. Boldings Pools (30 minutes) meanwhile is your go-to if angling for carp, bream and roach sounds like a grand day out...
