General

  • Countryside park with two fishing lakes
  • Views of the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales
  • Half an hour from Ironbridge Gorge

Splendid Shrewsbury... historic home to medieval streets, over 660 listed buildings and many a festival – and half an hour from the illustrious World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge.

And splendid Wigmore Lakes, close to all this industrious activity but also a Shropshire countryside site with views of both the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales, to use as a base to retreat peacefully back to of an evening.

Or just stay on site instead: Wigmore Lakes has two fishing lakes for guests for a small daily rate, to catch carp, tench, roach, bream and other silverfish (one of the lakes is predominantly filled with carp and the other has a complete mix and is often used for matches).

Wigmore Lakes doesn't have a site shop, but it doesn't really need it: a shop and post office is just outside, with a fish and chip shop for takeaway and a café for breakfast and other meals.

A modern toilet and shower block is available for guests' use.

Wigmore Lakes does accept children, but doesn't have any facilities for them such as a play area or games.

We liked everything! On arrival this lovely site didn't disappoint us! Spotless showers and kitchen area, with lovely hot water, clean and tidy area. A beautiful place for peace and quiet, although there were children around ,it was still so quiet. We strolled around the little lake and there were a few fishing. it was quite a perfect stay! There was Bob on site if we needed him, but there was no need ,as everything was absolutely great, all quiet by 10pm !! We will return again ,definitely xx

Toilet and shower block. Looked nice but poorly drained and low water pressure so showers often only dribbled out. Broken seat on one toilet.

What a fabulous site. Very clean and tidy. Our pitch was fully serviced with electric, water and drainage for water disposal. We met up with some friends there who are keen on fishing. This was my first time at fishing and I loved it. The lakes were well stocked with very healthy fish. Very friendly site staff. We didn't need any extra help but I am sure that nothing would have been too much trouble. The site is within close distance of several pubs, a fish and chip shop and an Indian restaurant/take away. Will definitely be returning with our fishing rods.

    Disliked:

Although the showers and toilets are very clean the lay out is a bit strange. The cubicles have a toilet and shower in each one, the problem being that if you needed to use the toilet and someone was in the next cubicle having a shower, you ended up paddling in soapy shower water as there was nothing to stop the water running from one cubicle to the next. I ended up rolling up my trousers each time I visited the toilet!

Lovely clean peaceful site. Grass immaculate. Toilets and showers were clean and warm. Like to go again.

    Disliked:

    Only 2 minor gripes.
No code for the disabled toilet so my husband had to use the ladies.
Despite me looking, I was unable to find a dedicated dog waste bin so had to use the general waste bin.
    Otherwise excellent.

From the manager...

Thank you for your feed back. I'm so sorry that I wasn't here to give you the code to the disabled loo, please do ask for it next time. We don't give it out generally to discourage others from using it. We really do hope you will return. Thank you.

Very well kept site, lovely clean shower room with endless hot water. Very well kept washing room area for dishes, with fridge, microwave and an excellent sitting area for meals if chose to do so. Each pitch has available electric hook up, water, and waste drop. There is more than ample area to keep you private. This camp site peaceful and quiet for any form of campers. There is a waste disposal area for mobile toilets, plus a large bin for household rubbish. 2 lovely lakes to walk around and for good use for people wanting to fish. There is a lovely small shop at the entrance of the site that sells all you may need for your stay. There is a fab Indian takeaway that delivers a great meal and a shot walk about 3/4 mile to the local pub (halfway house) which also does great food. There is a small but nice sitting room area with a pool table. All in all this is a very well kept site and a credit to the owners

    Disliked:

I can't think of anything I dislike about this site, just back from my second trip there, and can't wait to go again

Follow the A458 from Shrewsbury towards Welshpool. The site is in a village called Wattlesborough, halfway between Shrewsbury and Welshpool, and on the left immediately after the caravan sales, garage, fish and chip shop and post office area.

Please turn off your satnav when you see the sign for Wattlesborough as the postcode takes you out of the village. The site is just after the post office.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind and take the bus just outside Wigmore Lakes for a history-hunting day in Shrewsbury, taking care to stroll down as many shuts (medieval streets) as possible. If you're around in August, the esteemed Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the biggest flora-based fests in England.

Also have a wander around Welshpool (Wigmore Lakes is between it and Shrewsbury) and a trip to Ironbridge for several award-winning museums based around the Industrial Revolution.

For proper wanders, a network of footpaths is close to the site, including the Offa's Dyke Path, skirting by both Shrewsbury and Welshpool on its 177-mile run from Chepstow to Prestatyn.

Must see
