Wigmore Lakes: Touring pitches (photo added by manager on 30/08/2022)

General

  • Shropshire countryside park with two fishing lakes
  • Views of the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales
  • Half an hour's drive from Ironbridge Gorge

Splendid Shrewsbury, historic home to medieval streets, over 660 listed buildings and many a festival – and half an hour's drive from the illustrious World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge.

And splendid Wigmore Lakes, close to all this industrious activity but also a Shropshire countryside site with views of both the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales, to use as a base for peaceful retreats of an evening.

Or just stay on site instead: Wigmore Lakes has two fishing lakes for guests for a small daily rate, to catch carp, tench, roach, bream and other silverfish (one of the lakes is predominantly filled with carp and the other has a complete mix and is often used for matches).

Wigmore Lakes doesn't have a site shop, but a shop/post office is just outside, along with a fish and chip shop for takeaway and a café for breakfast and other meals.

A modern toilet and shower block is available for guests' use.

Wigmore Lakes does accept kids, but doesn't have any facilities for them such as a play area or games.

The site was clean and tidy and the showers/toilets were functional. Pitches are a really good size with hedges around them to give you that added privacy.

    Disliked:

Disappointed that even though the site is advertised with Wi-fi this only works it you are staying in a lodge and not a touring van

Lovely setting , well kept site .
Lovely kitchen and toilet building .

    Disliked:

No bins provided near camping field or in kitchen .
Toilets although very nice could definitely be cleaner , lots of cobwebs and crane flies .
The sign saying you can buy toilet rolls from the warden is rather odd bearing in mind you’ve paid to stay on site

From the manager...

Thanks for the feedback, unfortunately the time of year has sent the crane flies and spiders into a frenzy but I note your points and we will ensure a thorough dep clean to get rid of the cobwebs.

The toilet roll is simply for sale for those who might want to purchase some for their own van and personal use.

    Disliked:

Toilet block is run down. Broken toilet seats, grubby floors. Shop has closed down at top of drive despite email from host giving opening hours still.

From the manager...

I am so sorry that your stay didn't live up to your expectation. Now the broken toilet seats have been brought to our attention I can get them fixed.
Thanks so much.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind and take the bus just outside Wigmore Lakes for a history-hunting day in Shrewsbury, taking care to stroll down as many shuts (medieval streets) as possible. If you're around in August, the esteemed Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the biggest flora-based fests in England.

Also have a wander around Welshpool (Wigmore Lakes is between it and Shrewsbury) and take a trip to Ironbridge for several award-winning museums based around the Industrial Revolution.

For proper wanders, a network of footpaths is close to the site, including the Offa's Dyke Path, skirting by both Shrewsbury and Welshpool on its 177-mile run from Chepstow to Prestatyn.

Must see

  • Powis Castle & Garden (8.8 miles)
  • Much Wenlock Priory (18.4 miles)
  • Stokesay Castle (19.4 miles)

National Trust

  • Attingham Park Estate: Cronkhill (11.8 miles)
  • Carding Mill Valley and the Shropshire Hills (12.1 miles)
