Wigmore Lakes: Looking down the length of the touring park

General

  • Countryside park with two fishing lakes
  • Views of the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales
  • Half an hour from Ironbridge Gorge

Splendid Shrewsbury, historic home to medieval streets, over 660 listed buildings and many a festival – and half an hour from the illustrious World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge.

And splendid Wigmore Lakes, close to all this industrious activity but also a Shropshire countryside site with views of both the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales, to use as a base for peaceful retreats of an evening.

Or just stay on site instead: Wigmore Lakes has two fishing lakes for guests for a small daily rate, to catch carp, tench, roach, bream and other silverfish (one of the lakes is predominantly filled with carp and the other has a complete mix and is often used for matches).

Wigmore Lakes doesn't have a site shop, but a shop/post office is just outside, along with a fish and chip shop for takeaway and a café for breakfast and other meals.

A modern toilet and shower block is available for guests' use.

Wigmore Lakes does accept kids, but doesn't have any facilities for them such as a play area or games.

Let down by the toilets and showers and kitchen02/07/2022

  • Liked:

Nice aspect site and easy approach. Pitches spacious with level gravel and hedges for privacy.

    Disliked:

You get an email confirmation after paying your balance and this includes the facility access door codes and your pitch number. Nothing wrong with this until you find sometimes the doors will open and sometimes they won't - not just me because I saw at least two others trying for ages (they are the old analogue push button locks). Also we went out for the day in the motorhome the second day and came back to find a caravan and awning fully set up on our allocated pitch !
The big let down is the toilet/shower block and kitchen which presumably is shared with day anglers.
Both ladies, gents and kitchen were festooned with messages about keeping them clean and I think that's because there is no staff to do it. The gents had a mop and bucket but the water in it was the colour of strong tea and never altered the 3 days we were there.
Pity about this because with a good internal refurb to the facilities it could be a premium site.

The pitches were really big and private with a hedge between each one.

    Disliked:

The showers were to hot and you couldn't turn them down, this needs to be sorted and also the water didn't drain away and it it ran into the next shower which I think is quite dangerous and not very good

Cafe only a short walk to the main road which was good for breakfast.

    Disliked:

Walkway to the shower block along side our van which meant people were regularly passing pitch 9.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind and take the bus just outside Wigmore Lakes for a history-hunting day in Shrewsbury, taking care to stroll down as many shuts (medieval streets) as possible. If you're around in August, the esteemed Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the biggest flora-based fests in England.

Also have a wander around Welshpool (Wigmore Lakes is between it and Shrewsbury) and take a trip to Ironbridge for several award-winning museums based around the Industrial Revolution.

For proper wanders, a network of footpaths is close to the site, including the Offa's Dyke Path, skirting by both Shrewsbury and Welshpool on its 177-mile run from Chepstow to Prestatyn.

Must see
