Relax by the lake

General

  • Countryside park with two fishing lakes
  • Views of the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales
  • Half an hour from Ironbridge Gorge

Splendid Shrewsbury... historic home to medieval streets, over 660 listed buildings and many a festival – and half an hour from the illustrious World Heritage Site of Ironbridge Gorge.

And splendid Wigmore Lakes, close to all this industrious activity but also a Shropshire countryside site with views of both the south Shropshire Hills and the hills into Wales, to use as a base to retreat peacefully back to of an evening.

Or just stay on site instead: Wigmore Lakes has two fishing lakes for guests for a small daily rate, to catch carp, tench, roach, bream and other silverfish (one of the lakes is predominantly filled with carp and the other has a complete mix and is often used for matches).

Wigmore Lakes doesn't have a site shop, but a shop and post office is just outside, along with a fish and chip shop for takeaway and a café for breakfast and other meals.

A modern toilet and shower block is available for guests' use.

Wigmore Lakes does accept children, but doesn't have any facilities for them such as a play area or games.

Only a small site, (12) but big level pitches with all services. Caretaker very pleasant. Plenty of fishing in two (or more) lakes for those interested. Easy access. Marvellous diner/cafe just outside site with free wifi.

    Disliked:

Wi-Fi very poor and mostly nonexistent. Shower/toilets a bit rundown but clean enough.

Good size fully serviced pitches, lovely quiet site with stunning views

    Disliked:

Lack of cleaning in toilet/showers & kitchen area. Ladies toilet light goes off after 5 mins, showers flood so much that you have to outside of the cubicle to change. Toilet pans stained. We were there for 4 days and this did not change. We watched a lady go in put new toilet rolls in and squirt a bit of cheap toilet gel in and that was as far as the cleaning went!! Sinks in kitchen area also dirty. Just a gd scrub and some bleach and it would have been sorted!! No bin in kitchen area for food scraps and main bin was no where near the site! This site has the potential to be lovely, such a shame!!

From the manager...

I am so sorry that your stay with us wasn't as you had hoped. The standard of cleaning should have been far better than as you described and for that I am sorry.

Follow the A458 from Shrewsbury towards Welshpool. The site is in a village called Wattlesborough, halfway between Shrewsbury and Welshpool, and on the left immediately after the caravan sales, garage, fish and chip shop and post office area.

Please turn off your satnav when you see the sign for Wattlesborough as the postcode takes you out of the village. The site is just after the post office.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind and take the bus just outside Wigmore Lakes for a history-hunting day in Shrewsbury, taking care to stroll down as many shuts (medieval streets) as possible. If you're around in August, the esteemed Shrewsbury Flower Show is one of the biggest flora-based fests in England.

Also have a wander around Welshpool (Wigmore Lakes is between it and Shrewsbury) and a trip to Ironbridge for several award-winning museums based around the Industrial Revolution.

For proper wanders, a network of footpaths is close to the site, including the Offa's Dyke Path, skirting by both Shrewsbury and Welshpool on its 177-mile run from Chepstow to Prestatyn.
