Space to relax
Tents in one of the dingles

  • Dog-friendly site on 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside
  • River for pond dipping, paddling and fishing
  • Family-friendly pub serving food directly accessible from the site
Pooh! Pooh Sticks, that is – if your kids have never played it, a stay at The Green Caravan Park is the place to teach them the art. A river – the small and shallow River East Onny – runs through it for paddling, pond dipping, the aforementioned Pooh Sticks and fishing: pick up a cheap net at the site shop and keep your little shrimps entertained for hours for mere pennies. Once they’re dried off, there’s on-land nature spotting too, at the area set aside as a nature wilderness, a play area and space galore for bike riding or outdoor games. The Green Caravan Park has several riverside pitches, with others on the park island, in the two dingles, on The Plateau, in the play area field or in a five-acre meadow; electric pitches are in a separate field with both riverside and hardstanding spots. The park covers 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty between the Long Mynd and Stiperstones Hills: it’s no wonder it’s been called ‘a little gem’ by previous happy campers. Dogs can stretch their paws at the dog walk and exercise area on site (please keep dogs on leads in other areas of the park and clear up after them in all areas). Food is well covered too: the family-friendly Inn on the Green serves home-cooked food and is directly accessible from the park, and there are several country inns in the local area – steak and ale pies at The Crown get particular thumbs up.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Had a wonderful long weekend which was booked last minute due to weather forecast.
Super clean and secure site with an interest in recycling, toilet and shower block tidy and clean, all appeared to be level pitches and ours was alongside the river which provided trees for shade.
Although deep in countryside easy access to attractions including Church Stretton and Longmynd
Lovely pub at entrance to site which we didn't eat at -our fault we didn't book in advance - which seems to be very popular.
All in all site had everything we were looking for and hope to return.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Very welcoming at reception on arrival. Host accommodated us to a pitch close to facilities due to camping with a baby. Answered any questions we had throughout the stay. Clean site, friendly atmosphere and maintenance done daily. Relaxing sound of the stream travelling through the site which was great for the kids. Pub onsite and shop which sells everything you need. Would recommend and shall be returning!

Disliked Nothing. Lovely site

You must visit this site. Even if only once. You'll regret it if not.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely everything is to like about this stolen piece of Paradise. I was greeted with a "welcome to Paradise" ahead of my two night stay, travelling as a solo female, with dog, needing ehu to mitigate the impact of the heat on my floofball (I had planned a basics site I've been itching to visit and changed my mind with the temperatures - and I have zero regrets). The owners, John and Rachel are lovely and SO excited about wanting and being able to share their space with as many people as possible. Even with school holidays yet to begin, the site was busy but not too busy. Tenters, motorhomers and caravanners - including tourers arriving and long-term pitched tourers - are mixed in, with the exception being The Dingles, a cute pair of idyllic non-electric havens behind reception overlooking the little river that babbles through the site, the event field (DoE students were there when I arrived but you'd not know it) and The Plateau beyond. To the other side of the reception is the open part of the site - all ehu - and The Island, which has the much-needed shelter for my floofball, Fozzie Bear, and the sun to power those essential evening ambient lighting... Pub up a short path, shop over the road and another pub a short distance away. Toilets, showers, wash-up, chemical loo disposal, rubbish disposal, play area for kids with energy to burn off, a little dog walk area off The Dingles, but a public footpath off and behind the site, and nature in abundance - baby trout in the river, owls overhead calling to each other and the treat of a buzzard emerging from his early morning roost and swooping just feet away during an early walk - and all of this adds up to The Green being my 'return to' space. Two hours in on my first night and I was already recommending it - and deservedly so. Fozzie and I will be back!

Disliked Having to leave, but work and non-camping life was yelling at me to come back 😪

Really friendly staff and sheltered pitches if the winds are high.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Great welcome at reception who were really friendly. There is a fantastic pub just at the front of the site who do great food. There is also a small shop over the road for provisions and takeaway breakfast / breakfast sandwiches. Perfect.

The pitches on the stream side offered welcome shade in the Blazing heat late afternoon time. Phew!

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Electric grass pitch

Liked We had a fantastic stay at this camping site! From the moment we arrived, we received such a warm welcome from the owners. Rachael, in particular, clearly has a real passion for the site, and it shows in every detail.

The facilities were absolutely brilliant – spotlessly clean, well-maintained, and easily accessible. One of the real highlights is the location: there’s a lovely pub just seconds away, perfect for a relaxed meal or drink (definitely worth booking ahead for food). Plus, a well-stocked local shop is just a two-minute walk, which made everything super convenient.

We would totally recommend this site to anyone looking for a welcoming, well-run place to stay – and we’ll certainly be returning! Highly recommended.

Disliked There was a little smell at the top of the site, but I think this was from the pubs cesspit. No reflection on the site at all !

From the manager: Thanks so much for taking the time to leave a review following your recent stay. We're thrilled you all enjoyed yourselves & we look forward to welcoming you all back again one day soon...

Local attractions

Many visitors to The Green Caravan Park come for Shropshire strolls around the calm country lanes and hills, along the Offa’s Dyke path or from nearby village Wentnor. The park is between the Stiperstone Hills and the Long Mynd, which make up the biggest area of heathland in the Shropshire hills: walk the five and a half miles of the Stiperstone Ridge from the Knolls car park for magnificent views towards the Long Mynd. Folk flock to the area for the birdwatching too: keep an eye out for red kites, plovers and buzzards around the Stiperstones, which is a national nature reserve. This is also castle country: Stokesay, Powis, Montgomery, Clun and Ludlow castles are all within easy driving distance. Have a wander around the festival and foodie town of Ludlow after seeing the castle or see the castle, abbey and over 660 listed buildings of medieval town Shrewsbury, both half an hour away. Industrialists will be kept busy at nearby Snailbeach Lead Mine and historic Ironbridge and the Ironbridge Gorge Museums about 15 miles from Shrewsbury: this World Heritage Site site should keep even the urchins happy, especially going back in time to Blists Hill Victorian Town or creeping down the old Tar Tunnel. Closer to your pitch but dating from further away in time, Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort is between Clun and Bishop's Castle: go on to the latter for more walks, access to the Shropshire Way and the country’s oldest brewery, the Three Tuns. Well-behaved urchins can be rewarded at several family-friendly Shropshire attractions: if they liked Ironbridge they’ll probably be fond of the historic working farm at the Acton Scott estate, featured on the BBC’s Victorian Farm, or getting close to the natives at Telford’s Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom.
