Space to relax
Tents in one of the dingles

  • Dog-friendly site on 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside
  • River for pond dipping, paddling and fishing
  • Popular pub serving food directly accessible from the site
Pooh! Pooh Sticks, that is – if your kids have never played it, a stay at The Green Caravan Park is the place to teach them the art. A river – the small and shallow River East Onny – runs through it for paddling, pond dipping, the aforementioned Pooh Sticks and fishing: pick up a cheap net at the site shop and keep your little shrimps entertained for hours for mere pennies. Once they’re dried off, there’s on-land nature spotting too, at the area set aside as a nature wilderness, a play area and space galore for bike riding or outdoor games. The Green Caravan Park has several riverside pitches, with others on the park island, in the two dingles, on The Plateau, in the play area field or in a five-acre meadow; electric pitches are in a separate field with both riverside and hardstanding spots. The park covers 15 acres of Onny Valley countryside in a National Landscape between the Long Mynd and Stiperstones Hills: it’s no wonder it’s been called ‘a little gem’ by previous happy campers. Dogs can stretch their paws at the dog walk and exercise area on site (please keep dogs on leads in other areas of the park and clear up after them in all areas). Food is well covered too: the popular family-friendly Inn on the Green serves home-cooked food and is directly accessible from the park (pre-booking comes highly recommended), and there are several country inns in the local area – steak and ale pies at The Crown get particular thumbs up.

What customers say

This spot earns praise for its stunning location, friendly owners, and roomy sites. Guests loved the stream, kids' play area, and nearby pubs/shops. Facilities are mostly clean, though some found them dated with low shower pressure. Mostly positive, with minor notes on noise or dated amenities. Great for families or a quiet rural getaway.

From the manager: Many thanks for your review Carol, we're always very grateful to people taking the time to express how they found their stay. We are however sorry to hear that you did not find much to do whilst staying with us, what a shame you did not come to speak with us as we have many ideas to share in reception. The park was quieter during your stay but the play area, river, swings, play field, nature & nearby attractions usually keep children very happy. Cleanliness is important to us so we would have appreciated you speaking with us if you found the facilities not to a good standard. It is very disappointing that you experienced unfriendly staff at the nearby pub, this is so unusual & not the norm. We appreciate that we're unlikely to have the opportunity to welcome you back but wish you all the best with future caravan touring.

Great peaceful weekend would definitely stay again.

Liked Lovely site with a lovely river running through it, lots of birds nesting in the trees great to sit back and watch. Owners were so welcoming and more than happy to change our pitch as we were a big motorhome and we were sticking out a bit . We moved to a superb pitch which was more suited for our size water and electric in pitch. Lots of picnic benches dotted around the river so you can sit and watch the wild life . All facilities were kept spotlessly clean and the site was quite busy so this was nice to see. Great pub at top of road virtually on site nice area to sit out and have a drink and we ate there food was home cooked and we both enjoyed.

Liked Where to start…..The site is absolutely wonderful. Lovely spacious pitches and a wonderful welcome. Surrounded by trees, birds and a wonderful stream we instantly felt relaxed and at home. The facilities were spotless and the whole site is really well maintained and looked after. The Inn on the Green was a relay bonus when we didn’t want to cook (booking highly recommended) and the village shop had lots of lovely homemade pies/quiche and meats so well worth the support. We really did not want to leave and can’t wait to go back.

Disliked Having to leave and go home.

Liked The Green Caravan Park is a place where the atmosphere is simply wonderful. It feels very natural, peaceful, and surrounded by greenery, making it perfect for relaxing away from everyday noise.

Everything is very clean and well maintained, which immediately makes a great impression. There is also plenty of nature around, which adds even more charm to the whole stay.

Overall, it leaves a really positive feeling. For me it’s a solid 10/10 — a fantastic place to relax and enjoy nature.

Liked The friendliest of welcomes, great facilities, a park and swings for the kids, a spacious and green pitch, and access to nearby pub and shop. We were lucky with the weather so the children and dog also enjoyed cooling off in the stream. Everything you need for a half term mini break!

Local attractions

Many visitors to The Green Caravan Park come for Shropshire strolls around the calm country lanes and hills, along the Offa’s Dyke path or from nearby village Wentnor. The park is between the Stiperstone Hills and the Long Mynd, which make up the biggest area of heathland in the Shropshire hills: walk the five and a half miles of the Stiperstone Ridge from the Knolls car park for magnificent views towards the Long Mynd. Folk flock to the area for the birdwatching too: keep an eye out for red kites, plovers and buzzards around the Stiperstones, which is a national nature reserve. This is also castle country: Stokesay, Powis, Montgomery, Clun and Ludlow castles are all within easy driving distance. Have a wander around the festival and foodie town of Ludlow after seeing the castle or see the castle, abbey and over 660 listed buildings of medieval town Shrewsbury, both half an hour away. Industrialists will be kept busy at nearby Snailbeach Lead Mine and historic Ironbridge and the Ironbridge Gorge Museums about 15 miles from Shrewsbury: this World Heritage Site site should keep even the urchins happy, especially going back in time to Blists Hill Victorian Town or creeping down the old Tar Tunnel. Closer to your pitch but dating from further away in time, Bury Ditches Iron Age hill fort is between Clun and Bishop's Castle: go on to the latter for more walks, access to the Shropshire Way and the country’s oldest brewery, the Three Tuns. Well-behaved urchins can be rewarded at several family-friendly Shropshire attractions: if they liked Ironbridge they’ll probably be fond of the historic working farm at the Acton Scott estate, featured on the BBC’s Victorian Farm, or getting close to the natives at Telford’s Hoo Farm Animal Kingdom.
