Adventure play park
Adventure play park

  • Water- and land-based event centre in 270 acres of parkland
  • Easy access to Nottingham city centre, rail network and airport
  • Country walks, nature trails and lots to do for kids on site
What do you reckon is the main flavour of activities at this Nottinghamshire site? Yup, top of the menu at the Holme Pierrepont Country Park, near Nottingham, are all sorts of watersports: you'll be able to tackle a whitewater course for canoeing, kayaking, rafting and tubing; paddleboarding; and open-top canoeing. This is a land-based activity centre too, so if you don't fancy plunging into the foamy depths or would quite like to stay dry for a day, other options can be tackled at the outdoor adventure zone where there's an aerial adventure course, miniature golf, a kids' activity club and archery combat. A large play park, country walks and nature zones are also on site (please note some activities are subject to availability and must be booked at reception; early booking is advisable). Feeling a bit faint just from reading all this, and think you'd rather spectate? The centre has kindly included a country park café and a regatta lake where it hosts its own events like rowing and canoe regattas, dragonboat racing and triathlons. Lots are on offer too to keep the kids amused, including a woodland adventure playground and a nature trail, a short stroll away. Although all this energetic excellence is only 10 minutes' drive from Nottingham city centre, it's well into the countryside and away from anything townie, as it's deep in the 270 acres of parkland of Holme Pierrepont Country Park. The campsite part of the park covers 18 acres and has a facilities block with showers and toilets, and a site shop selling selected groceries and camping supplies.

What customers say

This is a large, well-located campsite with spacious, level pitches, ideal for families and groups. Visitors praised the proximity to the National Water Sports Centre and Nottingham. Facilities are generally considered adequate, though many reviews highlight a need for improved cleanliness and modernised toilet and shower blocks. Some guests experienced noise issues, particularly at weekends, and the on-site shop is described as basic. Despite some drawbacks, many would recommend and return to the site.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Level campsite. Decent size pitch. Easy to get to from the motorway. Peaceful geese. Handy shop on site. Hot water for showers and washing up. Nice play area for children. Nearby to water sports and the beautiful Colwick country park. I felt safe. I didn't use the water sports facilities, but if you're into that and you book up in advance it's a great option for activities.

Disliked Not enough toilets/showers in field "group camping" . Unclear whether cubicle is engaged/vacant. If willing to walk to next field the toilets and showers are more plentiful and easier to access. Expensive pitch for one person with just a small tent - probably better value if you have a bigger tent and more people. Some litter around the site, had to clear my own pitch on arrival of few beer cans and empty packaging.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Sadly, the only thing we enjoyed was the water sports activities

Disliked The entire site was filthy; there was rubbish in all the bushes, all over site, bins weren't emptied and there were only a handful of them, the pitches weren't tended in between guests, the toilets and showers were disgusting, never any toilet paper or soap. On the second night of our stay, the noise from the bell tents behind went on until 2:30am, we had a man behind our tent hitting it, twice, he had been around other tents in the same area, there was no security to call or find anywhere on site, when I told someone the next day all they were bothered about was the noise from other campers. People were leaving early because they were so fed up with how dirty it was. The one day we went up to the park, you had to pay for parking, we ordered l from the Ten66, stood in line for 20 minutes and paid £8 for 2 teas and 2 bags of crisps! Would not return and would definitely not recommend. I camp a lot and have been to a lot of sites and can never even fault the basic sites, but this site clearly has a lot of customers in and out and they're getting a lot of money but not putting it back into the site

Wouldn't return because of the dirty facilities.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Close to activities which is great for the kids! Lots of toilets and showers. Easy check in. Spacious plots. Heaters in individual shower cubicles.

Disliked Although there were planty, the toilets and showers were dated as well as dirty ALL THE TIME. We camp a lot so we know that showers and toilets won't be clean clean but there was poo smudges on the cubicle walls (the entire time we were there, backing up no cleaners!). The ladies showers stayed on for about 10 seconds at a time. Didn't see any cleaners over the 4 days. Womens didn't have hand soap for 3 out of the 4 days either! Our pitch had trees in the middle of it? Good thing they're spacious plots so we were able to share with friends. Says no dogs off lead, we had 2 dogs wander over often, not a problem as we like dogs but the shouting from the owners to "call" their dog back constantly could've gone without. Says no fires but lots of campers had fires. Not a negative but just so others know, debating having a fire, go for it, no one was checking anything anyway.

Electric grass pitch

Liked How big the campsite was and it had a laundry facilities and a park for children including lots of water activities

Disliked The showers were small and not a lot of room to get changed in after a shower without getting clothes wet

Toilets ran out of hand soap for a day and needed cleaning more regularly

Electric grass pitch

Liked Clean campsite, grass cut, trees cut.

Disliked Facilities was not very clean. No soap, toilet roll at times.
Got there and one of our pitches had been double booked for the first night. Pitched other tent on a slanted area.
If you have the code for the gate anyone could come in really as no one came round and checked on us. Plus we pitched on an area which wasn’t a numbered pitch but was never asked questions.
Didn’t see one person who works for the campsite.
Toilets are quite far from some of the camping area which isn’t great if you have children.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Spacious

Disliked Nobody working on site after a set time even though security is meant to be around managing noise levels and open fires. Number that is given to call is someone at home and they have no numbers for anybody that should be on site (security) which is pointless.
Strange drunk man was also seen around the back of tents, again No security on site to help with this situation.
Was very unnerving for campers

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Site location with access to the Water Sports complex and Nottingham city. The site was busy but a lovely setting with ample room.

Disliked Gents toilet facilities were very tired being dirty inside and out, with individual toilets difficult to flush and regularly left unflushed.
Shower cubicles with blocked drains.
Camper van toilet waste point drain blocked with raw sewage covering the base of the disposal.
